Marvelous: Mou Hitotsu no Takarajima (Super Famicom)
Controls, switching the 3 boys and teamwork
Distinguish A for Search, B for item actions, R for switching and Y for gathering. For high places and distant switches, check the number of boys and the item's owner too.
Scope: Japanese Super Famicom version (released October 26, 1996) / Content checked: October 2, 2026
Default Super Famicom controls
| Input | Use | How to distinguish it |
|---|---|---|
| Directional buttons | Movement and cursor | Move the hand cursor to the target during Search |
| A | Search, confirm and advance dialogue | Select a target to examine, cooperate or use an item |
| B | Action, cancel and advance dialogue | Use the equipped action item |
| X / START | Item menu | Check each boy's inventory and equipment |
| R | Switch leader | Switching puts the leader into solo action |
| Y | Whistle | Gathers the other 2 nearby boys on the same screen |
| L | LIFE display | Check all 3 boys before battle |
| SELECT | Record adventure | Save before dangerous mechanisms |
Select a target with Search
- Press A to bring up the hand cursor and move it to the person or mechanism you want to examine. Confirm, then choose a command from those displayed.
- An item's target is not necessarily something you use by standing beside it and pressing B. Select the actual part to examine, such as a keyhole, face or animal's mouth.
- Some explanations appear only once. Check item names and the specified people/places before closing Search.
When to use R, Y and the Transceiver
- Switching to 1 boy with R leaves the other 2 waiting there. Do not take everyone with you when you need someone to hold a switch.
- Pressing Y nearby gathers your companions. Boys on another screen do not come automatically; return to them or switch control with the Transceiver.
- Before carrying something heavy, position all 3 boys on the required side and choose teamwork. For high targets, choose the boy who needs to be on top.
- If any 1 of the 3 boys runs out of LIFE, the game ends. Do not leave an unused boy in an enemy's path.
Each boy's specialties
| Boy | Main actions | Typical situations |
|---|---|---|
| Dion | Dash, Ball and Hammer | Generating power, shooting targets/weak points, stakes and ice |
| Max | Underwater exploration, kicking, digging and punching | Penalty kicks, floors/graves, hardened projectiles and strength contests |
| Jack | Fishing, jumping, operating machines and recording | Distant switches, gaps, gorillas, Magnet and Spray |
Saving and restoring LIFE
- Use SELECT to record the adventure. Do not treat normal saving as the same input as suspend saving on a port's system.
- Continuing resumes from the adventure area recorded. Save after obtaining items and before bosses, and check where you will return after a failure.
- Collect Tomatoes with an injured boy. Switch through all 3 boys; healing only 1 does not mean everyone is safe.
