What is LIMBO?

PC controls, restarting after failure, difficult story sections and collectible revisits in LIMBO. Choose an article using scenery and your problem; detailed answers appear only when opened.

ℹ️ Information organized from reference material Steam store page →

Edition: LIMBO PC Steam story, app 48000, Windows. Excludes old Xbox 360 extra eggs and chapter numbering, console buttons and INSIDE abilities.

Verification scope: Public sources checked on 2026-10-04. The game was not launched, and the current build number and frame-level measurements were not checked. Scene landmarks take priority; chapter-number differences between sources are noted.

First separate input problems from mechanisms

LIMBO is Playdead's side-scrolling puzzle action game. Movement, jumping and grabbing objects create the route forward. Distinguishing missed inputs from the wrong mechanism order narrows what to try.

  1. Check left/right movement and jumping on clear floor. If only simultaneous keys fail, check input settings first.
  2. Stand beside a box and hold grab. Once the boy's hands are attached, add left or right movement.
  3. If objects move but progress remains blocked, watch what returns after moving them and which destination remains out of reach.

Few controls do not remove timing requirements from chases, platforms or devices. Overlooking something is not always the only cause.

How to use this on a first playthrough

  1. First check held actions versus single inputs in the beginner guide.
  2. When stuck in the story, open only the answer matching your current scenery. There is no need to open later sections together.
  3. Read specific collectible locations or special achievement requirements in the collectibles guide only when needed.

With answers closed, late-game changes, collectible locations and unlock requirements are not displayed. Solution-page FAQs also avoid giving the answers themselves.

Chapter numbers are not constantly displayed during play, and sources divide chapters differently. Note the original scene image before revisiting so you can find the return point.

Version scope and content

The primary target is Steam's Windows version, with public sources checked on 2026-10-04. The official store lists Japanese interface support. Because failures can be graphic, also check the official mature-content description if that imagery bothers you.

  1. Do not assume you can swim through water; check platforms and changes to the water surface.
  2. Use scenery and device sounds as clues. Counting seconds alone is not a universal answer.
  3. Separate story meaning and ending interpretations from the actions needed to progress.

FAQ

LIMBO FAQ

Q1 Can I play with a keyboard? ▼
A

The PC version supports keyboard controls. Check the default directional and action inputs; if changed, follow current settings. The beginner guide explains concrete checks.

Q2 Chapter numbers do not match other guides ▼
A

Old Xbox 360 and PC versions divide chapters differently, and PC-guide page numbers also vary. Match chapter images, objects on screen and surrounding scenery rather than numbers alone.

Q3 Must I restart if I miss a collectible? ▼
A

Normal collectible pickups can use chapter selection. This differs from special full-run challenges, so check the collapsed requirement in the collectibles guide.

Q4 Can I solve just my current obstacle without seeing later events? ▼
A

The walkthrough separates answers by section. Match landmarks and open only the part troubling you now. Answer numbers are not in-game chapter numbers.
