| Item | What to check | What to distinguish |
|---|---|---|
| Hunger | How much feeding is required | Do not treat it as HP reduced through attacks |
| Likes/dislikes | Response to dishes | Separate from the next taste currently requested |
| Craving | Taste needed to continue the chain now | Do not fix it from the Horror's name alone |
| Actions/status | Warnings of approach and abilities | Do not assume a favourite food lets you ignore actions |

Decision process before playing a card
- Check the current Craving and dishes with known likes/dislikes.
- Find candidates in your hand satisfying the current request.
- Check whether a candidate remains to follow that dish.
- Even when extending a chain, check whether you can withstand approach and abilities.
- If the response differs from expectations, reread the actual display before relying on a fixed matchup table.
Check when preferences become visible
Gourmet is a modifier affecting preference information disclosure. Distinguish normal conditions from those with the modifier enabled. Against unfamiliar opponents with little information, avoiding overcommitment to one taste is an option. Leave room to respond to the display instead of assuming a fixed ten-card deck based on knowing every opponent's preferences.
Distinguish folklore from in-game abilities
Folkloric traits do not guarantee the same actions in the game. Unverified instant-death scenes, action turns and fixed favourite foods from the old article have been removed from confirmed guide conditions. The same dish is not always optimal. Consider preferences, Craving, dish abilities and the Horror's status together; update your deck assumptions when an unfamiliar action changes matters.
Individual guides for all 34 remain outstanding
Individual checks remain for every Horror's locations, actions, preferences and specific responses. Officially confirming a name differs from testing all its actions in the game. The nine old speculative Horrors have been removed from the public implemented-content list. Whether any later appeared must also be rechecked against full-release information.
Frequently asked questions
Does this cover all 20 Horrors?
No. The old count mixed confirmed implementation and speculation. The official 1.0 total is 34; this page provides confirmed examples and how to read an encounter.
Should I always serve sweet dishes to Black Annis?
Do not fix a response from the name alone. Consider in-game preferences, current Craving and dish abilities together.
