FINAL FANTASY VII(PlayStation)
Materia, linking and AP
Distinguishes 83 materia names across five colors: 82 shared with the standard PS version and one addition. Also covers compatible links, growth rates and major acquisition conditions.
Scope: Main scope: original standard Japanese PS version (January 31, 1997); International additions noted separately / Content checked: October 2, 2026
Linked slots: match compatible materia, not just colors
| Combination | Placement | Usage check |
|---|---|---|
| Kaifuku+Zentaika | Two slots connected by a line on the same weapon or armor | Makes single-target healing affect all targets. The number of all-target uses depends on Zentaika's growth. |
| Honoo+Zokusei | Linked weapon slots | Adds fire to normal weapon attacks. Do not use it against fire-absorbing enemies. |
| Honoo+Zokusei | Linked armor slots | Protects against incoming fire damage. Zokusei at ★1 halves it, ★2 nullifies it and ★3 absorbs it. |
| Compatible materia+Tsuika-kouka | Linked weapon or armor slots | Distinguish added weapon statuses from armor status resistance. |
| Phoenix+Final Attack | Linked slots | Keep enough MP for the summon when incapacitated. |
- Placing materia side by side in unlinked slots does not create a support pair. Incompatible magic or commands do not gain effects merely from matching colors.
AP: check growth at the equipped slot
- AP earned after battle trains equipped materia. Check weapon and armor growth separately.
- Put materia you want to train into equipment with 2× or 3× growth. No-growth slots gain no AP.
- Mastering materia produces a new copy of the same type. Enemy Skill and Master materia do not use the same AP-training system.
- Table master-AP values are cumulative. Do not add the AP at each stage together. Full Cure's conflicting 10,000/100,000 values remain withheld.

Huge Materia: three Master types and Reishiki
| Objective | Huge Materia to inspect | Required preparation |
|---|---|---|
| Bahamut Reishiki | Blue | Inspect it while holding Bahamut and Bahamut Kai. |
| Master Mahou | Green | Master 21 magic materia types, excluding Master Mahou. |
| Master Command | Yellow | Seven types: Nusumu, Miyaburu, Nageru, Henka, Hissatsu, Ayatsuru and Monomane. |
| Master Shoukan | Red | Master 16 summon materia types, excluding Master Shoukan. |
- A save with a failed Huge Materia operation may not permit the same exchanges as one with all four colors. Master exchanges consume the ingredient materia, so check trained spares.
- International's Earth Harp exchange in Kalm is another acquisition method. It is excluded from standard Japanese PS steps.
Enemy Skill: collect at four locations and have the equipped character take the technique
- The character equipped with Enemy Skill learns compatible enemy techniques by being hit. Leaving it in inventory does not teach anything.
- For techniques such as White Wind or Mighty Guard, which enemies normally do not use on your party, use Ayatsuru to direct them at your side.
- Check whether the equipped Enemy Skill already knows the desired technique. Inspect the technique list separately for each materia.
- Check techniques such as Trine or Nantoka???? first, since killing the remaining source enemy can remove the learning opportunity.
| Location | Pickup action | Timing/check |
|---|---|---|
| Shinra Building floor 68 | Pick it up from Hojo's laboratory floor | Check after rescuing Aerith and before escaping the building. |
| Upper Junon | Enter the underground advanced-training hall from Aljunon's barracks and pick it up from the floor | Collect while exploring after the disguised-soldier parade. |
| Forgotten Capital | Go to the house where you can rest and inspect behind the far bed | Pick it up on entering the house and check your inventory. |
| Chocobo Sage's house | Speak to the house's chocobo and pick up the materia that appears | Visit after obtaining the Highwind. This item is not inside the airship. |
