Three separate saves to keep first

  1. Before entering the Temple of the Ancients, check Aerith's learned Limits and equipment and save in a separate slot.
  2. Save before each Huge Materia operation. The story continues after failure, but pickups and rewards differ.

FAQ

FINAL FANTASY VII FAQ

Q1 Can Aerith learn Great Gospel on Disc 2? ▼
A

No. Learn her other Limits before she leaves after the Temple of the Ancients, then use the learning item from the small box in the Mythril exchange. Finish preparations before entering the temple.

Q2 What is the safe combination for Vincent? ▼
A

Set the Shinra Mansion safe to right 36→left 10→right 59→right 97. Confirm each value without passing it, then take the basement key after fighting Lost Number.

Q3 Why does Yuffie run away? ▼
A

The post-battle save point or dialogue choices can make her flee. Answer in this order: Not interested→That's right→Wait a second→That's right→Let's hurry onward.

Q4 Where do you obtain Ultima? ▼
A

You receive it if you successfully stop the train in the Corel train operation. Reaching the front but failing to stop it makes it cost 50,000 gil; failing to catch it makes it unavailable.

Q5 Can you meet Ruby or Emerald in the standard PS version? ▼
A

No. Both were added in International, as were the Diamond Weapon battle and Sensui materia.

Q6 Why does AP not increase after equipping an ultimate weapon? ▼
A

Many ultimate weapons have no materia growth. For training, switch to weapons or armor with at least 1× growth and check growth for the slots holding each materia.
