Botanicula Basics: Using the Five Friends and Finding Cards
Added progression items and checklists for 6 chapters and every card · Updated 2026-10-12
Objects that do not respond to a simple click may need pulling, waiting, or moving the cursor across them. Watch the reaction and change your action accordingly.
When to choose each friend
Look for Mr Twig for distant objects and thin branches, Mr Feather for flying objects, Mrs Mushroom for small holes and bouncing games, Mr Poppyhead for a large body and bubbles, and Mr Lantern for hardness or light.
This is not an RPG where abilities stay equipped; choose a friend for each situation and watch the response. At holes and elsewhere, reactions from companions who do not succeed can also lead to cards.
Distinguish four interaction types
Wait for a click's reaction to finish. Grab and pull threads, tongues, legs, or eyes; move balloons and bubbles to where they should burst.
Shadows, deer, and underwater groups require hovering the cursor over them. Even when no clickable point seems visible, move around the area and watch for reactions.
Cards go in the album; progression items go in inventory
A card-acquisition animation differs from adding a bird, key, or element to your inventory. Even after a card appears, you may not have picked up the progression item dropped beside it.
Traded items disappear from inventory. Check changes at the recipient and the chapter goal together, rather than only the number you still hold.
Use reentry and repetition
Chapter 1's green bug and red-pod bug, and Chapter 4's stork after the vending machine, require leaving and returning to the screen.
The black storyteller appears in 3 places. Do not count conversations that update a card as the same thing as increasing the number of distinct cards.
