Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together(Super Famicom)
Classes and magic
Required stats for generic classes, kill counts, and separate reincarnation requirements. Do not mix the original's spellbooks with later editions' classmarks and skills.
Scope: Original Japanese Super Famicom version (released 1995-10-06). Based on analysis of the later ver. 1.2; guides for the PSP remake Let Us Cling Together and Reborn are outside the scope. Checked 2026-10-02. / Content checked: October 2, 2026
Check stats, alignment, and additional requirements together
- Select class change in formation on the regional map. Generic human classes become available when stat and alignment requirements are met.
- Equipable spellbooks vary by class. Recheck magic slots after changing rather than assuming the previous magic remains usable.
- The 23 rows below comprise 13 male rows and 10 female rows. Lich has 2 rows to separate male and female reincarnation sources, giving 22 class names.
Stat requirements for 22 male/female classes
| Class | Target | ALI | Required stats | Additional requirements and role |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Soldier | Male | LNC | No minimum stat requirements | Basic male class. Check the next class's requirements when deciding how to train. |
| Knight | Male | LN | STR at least 45, VIT at least 44, DEX at least 46 | Sword-focused front-line class. Keep healing items rather than only increasing weight. |
| Berserker | Male | NC | STR at least 45, VIT at least 46, DEX at least 44 | Axe front-liner. Receive enemies where allied healing can reach. |
| Ninja | Male | LNC | STR at least 45, AGI at least 46, DEX at least 44 | Can use 2 one-handed weapons and magic. Water movement also allows a bow-equipped rescue role. |
| Beast Tamer | Male | LNC | STR at least 45, VIT at least 44, MEN at least 46 | Supports nearby beasts. Avoid separating the tamer too far from them. |
| Swordmaster | Male | L | STR at least 95, AGI at least 102, DEX at least 126 | Can equip support magic. Haborym and other Swordmasters can handle Petrify Cloud and similar spells. |
| Dragoon | Male | N | STR at least 115, VIT at least 106, DEX at least 114 | Anti-dragon front-liner. L recruit Junoun uses it, but generic men require N alignment to change to it. |
| Terror Knight | Male | C | STR at least 117, VIT at least 114, DEX at least 104 | Requires at least 30 kills as well as the stats. Kill count accumulates separately from the normal stats shown on screen. |
| Wizard | Male | NC | MP at least 16, INT at least 44, MEN at least 42 | Attack-magic caster. Account for starting battles at MP 0 and wait safely until the first action. |
| Exorcist | Male | L | VIT at least 44, INT at least 42, MEN at least 44 | Handles undead exorcism and healing. Include one on battlefields with reviving enemies. |
| Warlock | Male | LN | MP at least 84, INT at least 124, MEN at least 112 | Uses Dragon Magic and support magic. Check maximum MP together with spellbook acquisition. |
| Gunner | Male | N | STR at least 120, AGI at least 164, DEX at least 150 | Requires having recruited Rendol once as well as stats. Avoid positions with blocked gunfire. |
| Lich | Male | LNC | MP at least 114, INT at least 162, MEN at least 147 | Obtained through reincarnation rather than normal formation changes. Prepare the required stats and Ring of the Dead, but avoid unintended deaths during rescues. |
| Amazon | Female | LNC | No minimum stat requirements | Basic female class. Can move on water and develop toward archer or caster requirements. |
| Valkyrie | Female | LN | STR at least 44, VIT at least 46, INT at least 42 | Female front-liner using spears and attack magic. Position after checking elevation and reachable targets. |
| Dragon Tamer | Female | LNC | HP at least 180, STR at least 115, MEN at least 103 | Female class supporting dragons. Its role differs from the Dragoon's anti-dragon combat. |
| Archer | Female | NC | VIT at least 44, AGI at least 44, DEX at least 48 | Use bows from high ground. Do not force short-ranged shots from low positions. |
| Witch | Female | NC | MP at least 16, INT at least 45, MEN at least 41 | Support caster. Position separately from healers and reduce enemy actions through paralysis, petrification, and similar effects. |
| Siren | Female | LN | MP at least 36, INT at least 75, MEN at least 71 | Attack caster. Keep the back line away from positions targeted by enemy bows. |
| Cleric | Female | LN | MP at least 16, INT at least 42, MEN at least 41 | Healing and status cures. Changing also requires no more than 10 kills, so do not let potential healers defeat too many enemies. |
| Priest | Female | L | MP at least 70, INT at least 125, MEN at least 110 | Handles holy magic including Resurrection. Changing also requires no more than 15 kills. |
| Lich | Female | LNC | MP at least 114, INT at least 162, MEN at least 147 | Obtained through reincarnation rather than normal formation changes. Prepare the required stats and Ring of the Dead, but avoid unintended deaths during rescues. |
| Angel Knight | Female | L | MP at least 92, STR at least 135, VIT at least 122, INT at least 144, MEN at least 119, AGI at least 122, DEX at least 124 | Reincarnates after death, and meeting the requirements does not guarantee the change. Stats and L alignment alone will not make it appear in the normal change command. |
Kill-count upper and lower limits
| Class | Kill requirement | Training caution |
|---|---|---|
| Cleric | 10 or fewer | Do not keep having a potential healer deliver finishing blows. |
| Priest | 15 or fewer | Watch total kills when planning to switch from an offensive class. |
| Terror Knight | 30 or more | Meeting stats alone does not make the class available. |
- These are original-version conditions. Do not substitute PSP/Reborn classmarks or skill-learning requirements.
Distinguish Lich reincarnation from normal class changes
- Reach at least MP 114, INT 162, and MEN 147. Cross-checked source classes are Wizard, Warlock, and Exorcist for men, and Witch, Siren, and Priest for women. Shaman remains pending until differences between references are resolved.
- The target reincarnates when dying with the Ring of the Dead equipped. Details involving simultaneous items, such as priority against a Reviving Stone, are not confirmed here.
- Because this borders on conditions that can lose valuable allies, save on the regional map before trying it. These are not instructions for a first experiment during palace exploration.
Angel Knight involves chance
- A female L-aligned unit must meet the table's MP, STR, VIT, INT, MEN, AGI, and DEX requirements.
- This is reincarnation when an eligible female class dies; meeting the stats alone does not add it to formation's class-change list.
- Probability and priority details involving stones remain pending. Do not rely on reincarnation by letting a unit die during a rescue or final consecutive battles where you want her to survive.
Distinguish unique classes from generic soldiers' options
| Person | Class | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Denim | Lord | Changes through an event involving Kachua's death. Not a class available to generic soldiers by meeting recruitment conditions. |
| Kachua | Princess | Her class after rescue. Can equip magic from all schools. |
| Vice | Warrior | Joins on L. Uses 2 one-handed weapons. |
| Canopus | Vartan | Switch between flight, bows, and melee attacks according to the battlefield. |
| Deneb | Witch (Deneb's unique class) | Do not confuse it with the generic female Witch class; check her own magic slots. |
| The four sisters | Shaman | Changes through Chapter 4's forbidden-magic event and ritual. |
Practice safely toward a target class
- Use training to narrow level differences among deployed units. HP 0 does not cause permanent death there, making it safer than retraining during actual rescue battles.
- Stat growth differs by class. Ninja is a candidate for raising AGI, but caster maximum MP and front-line durability also matter, so do not put everyone in the same class.
- Once the required stats are met, check the change in formation. Starting stats and growth vary, so no fixed level guarantees a class change.
