R.E.P.O. tools and upgrades: check use and charge after buying
Health Packs, individual upgrades, carts, trackers, and charging by purpose. Covers who uses purchases, where they arrive, and consumable versus rechargeable items.
Edition: PC Steam app 3241660, standard release, no mods. Normal new shifts, solo or co-op for up to six. Baseline early-game state; later Moon conditions and existing upgrades addressed separately where relevant.
Verification scope: Early Access standard v0.4.4, dated May 25, 2026, checked officially on October 4, 2026. v0.4.0 Cosmetic Update is implemented. June 5 discussion of the next level/1.0 is treated as plans; excludes beta, mods, and unreleased ports. Not gameplay-tested.

Finish purchase, collection, and application
Grabbing shop merchandise differs from paying and bringing it to the next shift. Upgrade/healing boxes only take effect when used.
- Check shared funds, who needs healing, and hauling difficulties. Assign the buyer and user.
- Put desired products on the purchase platform. Read its total and return items if needed to fit the budget.
- Confirm with the red purchase button and wait for processing. Items merely picked up in the shop are not bought.
- Return to the truck, depart, and check purchases. The user holds upgrade/healing boxes with left-click and uses E.
- Check HP/stamina maxima and used-item indications. Store tools in 1/2/3 if needed, and check charge before exploring.
Use the shop's current price display. Player-count discounts and updates change prices, so old fixed guide prices are not purchase requirements.
Distinguish healing packs from ability upgrades
Figures below cover representative starting items, checked for agreement between a current reference table and an independent guide. No fixed prices are listed because costs vary; check product names and physical displays. Upgrades last within the current run, not as permanent growth shared across every save.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Item/upgrade | Checked cost/requirement | Action after purchase | Effect/consumption | Restriction |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small Health Pack | Shop-displayed cost; HP below maximum | Hold in truck and use E | Single-use restoration of 25 HP | Different from Health Upgrade, which raises maximum HP |
| Medium Health Pack | Shop-displayed cost; HP below maximum | Player needing healing holds and uses it | Single-use restoration of 50 HP | Reconsider size if only a small amount of HP is missing |
| Large Health Pack | Shop-displayed cost; HP below maximum | Hold in truck and use E | Single-use restoration of 100 HP | Does not necessarily fully heal a high maximum HP |
| Health Upgrade | Shop-displayed cost; decide the user | Intended player holds the box and uses E | User maximum HP +20; box consumed | Purchase alone does not apply to everyone |
| Stamina Upgrade | Shop-displayed cost; decide the user | Intended player holds it and uses E | User maximum stamina +10; box consumed | Different from Sprint Speed, which increases speed |
| Strength Upgrade | Shop-displayed cost; want easier heavy-object handling | Intended recipient, such as the hauler, holds and uses it | Improves lifting/handling; box consumed | Does not guarantee one person can carry every object |
| Range Upgrade | Shop-displayed cost; want greater reach | Intended recipient uses the box | Extends grabbing range | Do not confuse with handling weight |
| Crouch Rest Upgrade | Shop-displayed cost; want improved rest | Intended player uses the box | Improves recovery under conditions such as crouching | Since 0.3, also applies while stationary in Tumble. Not infinite recovery while sprinting. |

For example, if two people each use one unused Health box in the same run, each gains +20 maximum HP. That differs from giving one person both boxes. Agree on recipients first.
Check where tools arrive and their activation requirements
Use large hauling equipment directly; check storage slots and power for handheld tools. Before bulk-buying unfamiliar items, see whether they address the current problem.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Item/upgrade | Checked cost/requirement | Action after purchase | Effect/consumption | Restriction |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| C.A.R.T. | Check shop cost; passable ground available | Locate it in the truck/at shift start and grab its handle | Carry several items together | Cargo width and physical collisions still matter |
| Pocket C.A.R.T. | Check shop cost; want a small hauling aid | Retrieve and deploy, then check cargo fits | Compact, storable cart | Do not expect large-cart capacity |
| Valuable Tracker | Check shop cost and item power | Hold and activate with E; inspect its pointing direction | Tool for finding valuables; requires charging | Does not guarantee a safe route to its target |
| Extraction Tracker | Check shop cost and charge | Hold and activate with E; locate inactive points | Helps find extraction points; uses power | Cannot bypass a point's quota or activation requirements |
| Energy Crystal | Check shop cost and truck charging resources | After purchase, check charger resources and bring compatible items to it | Consumable replenishing truck charging resources | Merely carrying it does not refill every tool |
| Recharge Drone | Check shop cost and drone charge | Activate hovering with E, switch to the tool to charge, and confirm attachment | Charges tools but also consumes the drone's own power | Switch the target off first. Does not restore single-use consumables. |
| Defibro | Implemented from 0.4.0 onward. Check shop cost. | Carry after purchase; for self-rescue, equip in an inventory slot and keep it with you | Revives a nearby dead player; consumed afterward | Supports solo too, but do not expect automatic rescue if left in the truck |

Weapons and explosives may affect teammates and valuables. This table checks activation after purchase rather than ranking damage. It does not list every weapon's ammunition or every item's price.
Charging requires checking both tool and charger resources
Repeated E presses do not revive a depleted tool. Bring a compatible tool to the truck charger and confirm the charger has usable power too.
- Check whether the unusable item is rechargeable or single-use. Read its remaining-use/charge display.
- For rechargeable tools, return to the truck charger and place or hold the item inside the charging area.
- Check that charger power decreases and tool charge increases. If not, inspect item position and charger resources.
- If resources are insufficient, budget for Energy Crystal next shop visit. Agree on which needed tools to charge first.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Check | If insufficient | Before shopping |
|---|---|---|
| Tool charge | Take compatible tool to charger | Can it recharge before you rebuy it new? |
| Charger resources | Replenish with Energy Crystal | Do not buy aimlessly without tools needing it |
| Recharge Drone charge | The drone itself also needs charging | Check both target item and drone charge |
| Single-use item | Its role ends once used | Do not try charging Health Packs or upgrade boxes |

Charging displays changed in 0.2, and charger appearance/size changed in 0.4. Do not universally apply old claims such as “every item has five bars” or “charger maximum is six”; inspect the actual equipment.
Choose the next purchase from the last failure
Identify one current shortfall rather than buying in the same order every time. This is a choice method for limited budget/stock, not a fixed strongest ranking.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Previous blockage | Candidate | Before buying | After use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Injuries remained | Health Pack | Missing HP and who needs healing | Actual HP increased and box used |
| Could not sprint long enough | Stamina upgrades | Was it during escape or ordinary unnecessary sprinting? | Did maximum capacity increase? |
| Could not lift something heavy | Strength/hauling aid | Is it only a shape/route problem? | Did the intended player use the box? |
| Tool ran out of power | Energy Crystal/Recharge Drone | Does the existing charger still have power? | Did tool charge recover? |
| Needed item absent from shop | Save funds/paid reroll | Can current stock suffice, or pay to reroll? | Does the total fit the budget after the fee? |

For co-op purchases, explicitly agree who uses each box. Do not expect simultaneous team-wide upgrades from shared-upgrade mod videos in the standard version.
Checklist for items that cannot be used or do not work
Checking on-screen name, location, used state, and charge identifies where to return before repurchasing.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Use problem | Location/state/charge check | Next action | Version difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bought it but ability unchanged | Is the box still unused in the truck? | Intended player holds with left-click and uses E | Standard version applies individually, unlike shared-upgrade mods |
| Only a teammate became stronger | Who used the box? | Assign the next box's recipient | Shared funds do not make every ability shared |
| Healing item does not work | Used indication/actual and maximum HP | Confirm unused item and complete E use | Distinguish Health Pack from Health Upgrade |
| Retrieved item, but E does nothing | On floor rather than held? | Grab with left-click and check the use prompt | Item Unequip Auto Hold added in 0.3 has different defaults for new/existing players |
| Tool remains empty | Tool and charger power | Put compatible item in charging area; replenish resources if insufficient | Do not use the old universal five-bar explanation |
| Certain upgrades do not appear in solo shop | Searching for Map Player Count or similar? | Budget for solo healing/abilities/tools instead | From 0.4, Map Player Count/Death Head Battery do not spawn solo |
| Unsure after buying Defibro | Equipped in an inventory slot and carried? | Check its location before next departure | Implemented in 0.4, not merely announced. No unconditional success guarantee. |

No guarantee that lost items are restored next shift or every death can be rescued. Check consumption, charge, and location for each item.
Frequently asked questions
How do Health Pack and Health Upgrade differ?
Health Pack restores lost HP once. Health Upgrade raises the user's maximum HP by 20. Neither applies automatically from purchase alone.
Stamina purchase did not make me faster
Stamina Upgrade adds 10 to the user's maximum stamina. It differs from Sprint Speed, which changes movement speed. First confirm you used the box in the truck.
Does carrying Energy Crystal charge every tool?
It serves as a truck charging resource. Put a compatible tool in the charger and confirm its charge increases. Tool power and charger power are separate.
Why does a retrieved tool fall from my hands?
Check Item Unequip Auto Hold. Since its 0.3 addition, defaults differ for new and existing players. If the item appears on the floor, grab again with left-click before E.
Can Defibro work solo?
Official descriptions cover solo self-rescue, and standard 0.4.0 added it. Check that it is equipped in an inventory slot and carried. It is consumed, so does not guarantee repeated revival.
