Magicite growth: plan spells and stats separately

  1. First decide the healing, revival and attack spells each party needs, then learn them through high-multiplier magicite. Switch to different magicite after learning them.
  2. Switch to magicite with a growth bonus just before leveling up. Check the stat used by your attacks: Strength for physical attacks, Magic for spells and some Blitzes, and so on.
  3. Keep Odin if you want to raise Speed in the SFC version. Examining the Ancient Castle's princess changes it irreversibly into Strength +2 Raiden.
  4. Check magicite and equipment whenever members change through recruitment or rejoining. You can progress through the main story without low-level restrictions.
Stat to raiseExample magiciteOn level-up
StrengthIfrit / Bismarck / Raiden+1/+2/+2
MagicMaduin / Cait Sith / Zona Seeker / Valigarmanda+1/+1/+2/+2
SpeedOdinSFC: +1
HPSiren / Midgardsormr / Bahamut+10%/+30%/+50%
MPPhantom / Fenrir / Jihad+10%/+30%/+50%
  • Phoenix has no bonus. Distinguish learning Reraise and other spells from raising stats.
  • This growth table does not guarantee minimum-level completion for every character or procedures for reaching stat caps.

  • Check the conditions for Soul Saver, Ultima Weapon, Dice and Fixed Dice. Do not treat Attack values as actual damage.
  • Sagojo's Spear's 253 value applies while in imp status. Do not compare it on the same assumptions as normal status.
  • Usable characters, elements and additional effects also differ. Attack-value order is not presented as a strongest-weapon ranking.

  • The physical values for the Tortoise Shield, Saucer and Imp Armor are marked as conditional on imp status. Do not mix them with normal-status display values.
  • Mystery Veil has physical Defense 24 and magic Defense 25. Do not read its physical and magic values as identical.
  • Listed physical Evasion and Magic Evasion are separate from Defense. Do not assume SFC evasion uses the same calculation as later editions.

Coliseum: sword exchange and recruiting Shadow

  1. Wagered items are lost through results or exchanges, so save before offering rare items. Battles use automatic actions; you cannot issue commands each turn as in a normal boss battle.
  2. Wager the Ragnarok sword and win to exchange it for Lightbringer. A save that chose Ragnarok magicite cannot wager the sword from this event.
  3. After rescuing Shadow, wager the Ichigeki blade to make him the opponent. Finish the match and confirm recruitment in the companion list.
  • A complete wager-exchange table is not provided. Check the desired sword or recruitment condition before wagering.
Back to contents ↑

Cursed Shield: compensate for resistances before lifting the curse

  1. Put Locke in the party and receive the shield from the old man in Narshe's locked house.
  2. Equip the shield on Edgar or another character and prepare a Ribbon and healer. It adds status ailments and weaknesses, so accumulate battles somewhere you can win reliably. Do not try to increase the count by fleeing.
  3. Once it becomes the Hero's Shield, check equipment and spell-learning entries. It provides one way to learn Ultima.
  • Sources differ between 255 and 256 battles for the transformation, so this article does not assert a fixed count. The condition has not been cross-checked against a hardware play record of removing the curse.
