Elin Early Progression Guide: Quest Requirements and Town Preparations
Check the current quest for missing placement, equipment or reporting. Early answers stay closed by stage, with steps for preparing food, supplies and bills before visiting town.
Edition: PC Steam app 2135150, normal Stable branch without mods. Control examples use a new character at the standard starting home with no oaths. One Block, Nightly, special oaths and Elona/Elona+ are outside scope. Prioritize your own screen for racial and class skill differences.
Verification scope: Checked on 2026-10-04 against EA 23.338 Stable (official announcement body dated 2026-08-24; Steam posting dated 2026-08-23). Do not assume September news about Nightly additions applies to normal Stable. Further Stable patch numbers and the installed game have not been verified. Recipes were compared with the current wiki and independent guides; disagreements were also checked against developer-published tables, while details unconfirmed in the same release version remain withheld.

Check the unfinished action before the quest name
This is one example of following the standard introduction. Rather than retaking everything at once, find one unfinished stage in the journal. Answers 1–4 below include specific quest names and items; open only the numbers you need.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Progress problem | Quest/home/ability check | Location/action to revisit | Version differences |
|---|---|---|---|
| You lost track of the quest | Tracker hidden or following another quest | Open the journal and read the current objective. | Use on-screen buttons if widgets or bindings changed. |
| Crafting did not complete it | Separate possession, placement, equipment and reporting. | Check quest-giver dialogue and the target’s current state. | Do not count a different furniture item/material with a similar name. |
| Materials are present but progress is blocked | Recipe recognition, skills and station | Use the tools/processing article to fill the missing stage. | Do not mix Nightly or old recipes. |
| Many newly accepted errands | Deadlines, destinations and daily condition | Finish eating, sleeping and storage, then choose one errand. | Quests do not all share deadlines/failure conditions. |

Check land acquisition through shared storage
Follow Ashland’s dialogue and supplied items at the start. Do not overlook dropped items and travel away searching for the next quest.
- Test storage by transferring one spare material into the chest. Check its contents rather than judging from appearance alone.
- Keep personal food and spare equipment separate instead of putting everything in the quest’s shared chest. Residents can use it after sharing is enabled.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Stage/quest | Acceptance/prerequisite | Person/required item | Action and next check | Exception |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| First land | Standard initial-home start | Ashland and the land deed | Talk → pick up the deed at your feet → read it → confirm acquisition and talk again | Special starts do not use the same introduction. |
| An Essential Item for Your Base | After acquiring land | Sturdy box supplied by Ashland | Hold chest → place → open → switch to shared → report to him | Carrying the chest alone does not meet placement/sharing requirements. |
| Check sharing settings | Placed container | Padlock icon in the open chest | Switch according to the shared/private display. | Use another chest for items you do not want residents using. |
| Next conversation | Storage quest completed | Ashland | Confirm the quest display changes and read the next request. | Do not assume an unaccepted errand is complete. |

The lesson is the distinction between picking up → holding → placing → configuring → reporting.

Follow the crafting path through crafting, equipment and housing
The workbench, torch and house stages do not finish merely by carrying completed items. Reread the quest after each report.
- Leave an accessible interior in the house. Check the wall position, direction and opening where the door will go.
- If placement faces the wrong way, review placement and rotation. Test the entrance before adding more walls.
- Speak to the quest giver after completion and confirm the next stage. Check inventory too if the reward includes a recipe.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Stage/quest | Acceptance/prerequisite | Person/required item | Action and next check | Exception |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Path of Crafting: facility | Accepted after land acquisition | Ashland, 2 logs | Make a workbench through basic crafting, place it, confirm it opens and report. | A finished item in inventory is not an installed facility. |
| The Path of Crafting: light | Report the previous stage | Workbench, string, branch and resin | Craft torch → receive in inventory → equip in the light-source slot → report | Separate from a wall torch or torch on the ground |
| The Path of Crafting: house | Report the lighting stage | Grass walls and grass door | Enclose space with walls and install the entrance door → check house conditions and report | Flooring alone does not make a room. |
| Add a usable bed | Workbench usable | Makeshift bed from 2 grass and 4 leaves | Craft → place somewhere safe, such as inside the house → sleep when fatigued | Quest house recognition and bed-recovery conditions are separate. |

Sources describe the smallest house differently by diagram and version. This article does not copy a layout or promise minimum dimensions; check the enclosure, interior and entrance in your own game.

Place the first shipping chest using the specified material
The shipping-chest quest also requires checking material type. Looking only at the log category can result in using a material the quest does not request.
- Do not rely on automatic ingredient selection. Read each slot’s material name before crafting and confirm palulu logs are selected.
- If the result is on the ground, hold and place it. Open it afterward and insert only items for sale.
- Shipping normally occurs at 5 a.m. each morning. If money does not increase immediately, check collection time before judging failure.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Stage/quest | Acceptance/prerequisite | Person/required item | Action and next check | Exception |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Settlement Inspector | Shared-storage quest completed | Ashland | Continue the dialogue about getting help and confirm Loytel is at home. | Do not repeat completed stages in an existing save. |
| Your First Shipping Chest | Speak to Loytel | Materials and recipe supplied on acceptance | Collect materials at your feet and check for the shipping chest in the workbench list. | If the recipe is missing, review acceptance dialogue. |
| Crafting the chest | Sources use workbench and Crafting 4 as the baseline | 2 palulu logs, 2 string, 2 sticks | Select palulu in ingredient selection → craft → place → report to Loytel | Reserve quest materials before spending them on another craft. |
| First shipment | Placed shipping chest | A few unwanted items | Put them in, then check sales and contents after collection the next morning. | Do not test-sell needed equipment or quest materials. |

If the supplied palulu logs are used up, search the home for leftovers first. Prepare food and a bed before gathering more, and do not substitute a differently named quest material.

Connect new processing recipes with tool preparations
If a facility is missing from the list, check recipe knowledge before assuming materials are missing. Completing all story combat is not required to begin every early processing task.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Stage/quest | Acceptance/prerequisite | Person/required item | Action and next check | Exception |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| To New Lands | Settlement Inspector stage completed | Ashland | Accept through conversation and read the journal objective first. | Prepare daily needs and equipment before traveling. |
| Fiama’s Premonition | After accepting To New Lands | Fiama | Continue dialogue and check recipes for the drafting table, mason’s table and stonecutter. | Quest reward and skill requirement are separate conditions. |
| Start processing | Relevant recipe recognized | Workbench, materials/skills | Craft and place one needed facility, such as the stonecutter, and process materials. | Receiving a recipe does not place the facility. |
| A Settler’s Mindset | After completing Your First Shipping Chest | Loytel, hoe and shovel | Accept the next quest when available, prepare tools at the tinker’s table → report | Sources say it appears the following day. If absent, check the date and previous quest completion. |

Fixed cave floors, boss behavior, later resident movements and the story ending are outside scope. Receiving a locked chest does not guarantee it can be opened immediately.
Prepare town supplies by errand
- Time advances quickly on the world map. Check the town’s direction and limit detours. Following roads can reduce encounter burdens but does not guarantee safety.
- In town, use guard guidance options such as asking for a location. Ask for your destination before checking every shop.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Town errand | Check before leaving | What to bring | On arrival |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pay tax | Received bill and amount due | Bill and enough orens | Ask a guard for the tax chest location. |
| Learn a skill | Whether the desired skill is unlearned | Platinum coins and the missing skill’s name | Check the trainer’s learning list and cost. |
| Replenish food | Current food spoilage/satiety | Purchase orens and preparations for returning | Check inn meal/preserved-food options. |
| Choose a quest | Whether delivery items, destination and deadline are understood | Items already available/travel reserves | Choose one request you can reasonably complete. |
| Return home | Hunger, fatigue and weight | Do not carry excessive heavy extras. | Return before using all food reserved for the journey back. |

Put the bill in the tax chest and check payment
This is the in-game tax action. A home setting named tax-free land does not mean personal tax bills no longer need payment.
- Collect bills arriving around the beginning of the month or at other times, then compare the stated amount with your orens. Do not assume a universal amount such as 500.
- Take the bill and required orens to Mysilia. Ask a town guard to guide you to the tax chest.
- Open the tax chest and submit the bill. Confirm that the bill disappears and inspect the payment result.
- If a tax-related quest is active, check whether reporting is also required. Payment completion and quest-completion display are separate checks.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Payment problem/concern | First thing to check | Next action | Confusion to avoid |
|---|---|---|---|
| You reached the tax chest but cannot proceed | Whether the bill is in inventory | Check the ground at home, mailbox and storage. | Orens alone do not submit the bill. |
| Not enough money | Actual amount on the bill | Reserve payment money and stop unnecessary purchases. | Do not assume fixed taxes or money-making returns. |
| Billed despite tax-free land | Personal bill and land-income rules | Check the bill normally. | Tax-free land is a setting concerning deductions from land income. |
| You want to know how many months can be ignored | Unpaid bills and elapsed months | Pay received bills in order rather than testing the deadline. | Arrears affect karma; no safe grace period is guaranteed. |

Spending all necessary funds before traveling far can also leave insufficient return food. Separating payment, resupply and crafting/skill money is one organizational approach.
Go back one stage when the display does not change
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Progress problem | Quest/home/ability check | Location/action to revisit | Version differences |
|---|---|---|---|
| The quest remains despite having the finished item | Placement/equipment/reporting requirements | Read the quest’s verbs and inspect the relevant step. | Do not mix old NPC reward or name information. |
| A new recipe does not appear | Quest accepted and facility interface opened | Check NPC → journal → recipe search. | Some initial wiki recipes are recognized through opening a facility interface. |
| Gathering or processing stops partway | Fatigue, inventory counts and current skills | Resolve one issue: food, sleep or a missing ingredient. | Preparation quantities depend on the character. |
| Item quantities differ from an old guide | Normal versus Nightly branch and current recipe | Prioritize in-game requirements and check this article’s target version. | Do not automatically treat a discrepancy as a bug. |

Do not jump to recreating every save or adding mods before checking dialogue and placement conditions.
Frequently asked questions
I made the quest item, but the quest is unfinished.
Read whether placement, equipment, configuration or reporting is also required. Open the necessary stage’s answer and compare item type and current state one at a time.
Can I make a facility immediately after receiving its recipe?
Knowing the recipe, using its specified station and meeting skill/material requirements are separate conditions. Find the crafting location through recipe search, then compare its requirements with inventory.
Must I finish every initial quest before visiting town?
This is a preparation example, not a requirement to finish all quests. Check food, equipment, bills and other items needed for the current errand; postpone difficult combat or long travel according to your preparations.
Does setting tax-free land mean I need not pay taxes?
The tax-free land setting and personal tax bills are separate. Read the received bill and take it with the necessary orens to a tax chest. This article guarantees no safe period for leaving taxes unpaid.
