Elin Crafting Guide: Connect Tools, Materials and Processing Facilities
Check recipe recognition, skills, stations and ingredient selection in order. Covers checked quantities and usage from the workbench to early processing facilities, bedding and tools.
Edition: PC Steam app 2135150, normal Stable branch without mods. Control examples use a new character at the standard starting home with no oaths. One Block, Nightly, special oaths and Elona/Elona+ are outside scope. Prioritize your own screen for racial and class skill differences.
Verification scope: Checked on 2026-10-04 against EA 23.338 Stable (official announcement body dated 2026-08-24; Steam posting dated 2026-08-23). Do not assume September news about Nightly additions applies to normal Stable. Further Stable patch numbers and the installed game have not been verified. Recipes were compared with the current wiki and independent guides; disagreements were also checked against developer-published tables, while details unconfirmed in the same release version remain withheld.

Read knowledge, skill, station and materials before crafting
Before considering total material quantities, check whether you have the form the selected recipe needs. Levels in the tables are for comparison with crafting requirements, not overall character level.
- Search for the desired item with recipe search (default F2). Use part of the name if it is long.
- Open the required station and read selections in each material slot. For quests requiring specific materials, do not craft blindly with automatically selected ingredients.
- Make one item first and check its name, material and output location. If a facility, place and test it too.

| Check | Where to look | If missing | Success indicator |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recipe knowledge | Recipe search and station list | Open the relevant initial station once/check acquired recipes. | The name appears in search and the list. |
| Skill name and level | Recipe requirements and skills panel | Distinguish Crafting, Carpentry, Sculpture and other skills. | The character has learned the required skill. |
| Crafting station | Crafting location in recipe search | Place the relevant station and open it nearby. | The intended crafting list is usable. |
| Ingredient form and material | Each material slot | Distinguish logs/planks, branches/sticks and stones/cut stones. | The required slot accepts the material. |
| Capacity to keep working | Stamina and weight | Sleep/store excess items, then test one item at a time. | You are not forcing continued work. |

This is not an all-recipe collection. Representative items were compared against developer-published tables and multiple guides, but not all data in the currently installed Stable version or runtime crafting has been checked.
An order for expanding processing from the workbench
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Item to make | Recipe/skill/station prerequisites | Tools and materials | Processing action | Use/exceptions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Workbench | Basic crafting, Crafting 1, initial recipe | 2 logs | Use Abilities → basic crafting, then place and open it. | First crafting station. Harvest logs with an axe. |
| Sawmill | Workbench, Crafting 2, initial recipe | 3 logs, 3 stones | Craft → place → use the wood to process | Processes logs into planks and branches into sticks. |
| Carpenter’s table | Workbench, Crafting 3, initial recipe | 4 planks and 2 stones, compared against the public table and wiki/ksk | Make planks at the sawmill → craft at workbench → place | Differs from old 2-plank/1-stone sources. Recheck current requirements. |
| Table and round stool | Carpenter’s table. Table: Carpentry 5; round stool: Carpentry 3. | Table: 4 planks. Round stool: 2 logs. | Craft each and reserve them for the next station. | Do not confuse similar-looking recipes/categories. |
| Tinker’s table | Workbench, Crafting 5, initial recipe | 1 table-category item, 1 chair-category item, 2 bones | Select the intended table/chair as ingredients → craft → place | Check ingredients to avoid consuming furniture already placed. |
| Nail | Tinker’s table, Crafting 4, initial recipe | Example using 1 bone | Open the station and craft through the nail recipe. | Alternatives exist, but this example uses bone. |
| Stonecutter | Workbench, Crafting 6, recipe recognition required | 2 planks, 4 stones, 1 nail | Craft, place and process stone. | See early-progression answer 4 for recipe acquisition. |

The carpenter’s table uses the 4/2 quantities agreed by public data and several sources, with the conflicting old values noted. Public data is not the Stable-bundled version itself; prioritize in-game requirements if different.
Test processing through holding the material and using the facility
Some facilities process a material directly; others require choosing a recipe with several ingredients. Check which facility processes the material rather than continually searching the workbench list for planks.
- If the facility is merely dropped on the ground, hold and place it. Move to a position showing the Use option.
- Hold the material to process and perform the displayed action targeting the facility. Read the prompt first to ensure another ingredient is not selected.
- Collect the output afterward. With auto-pickup off, also check the ground and distinguish input quantities from finished items.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Desired item | Starting material | Facility used | Action check | Output check |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plank | Log | Sawmill | Hold the log and use it on the installed sawmill. | Check that the output is named plank. |
| Stick | Branch | Sawmill | Process a branch, not a log. | Collect the output and count it as sticks. |
| Cut stone | Stone | Stonecutter | Select stone for processing. | Check it as a separate material from ordinary stone. |
| String | Example using 2 vines | Workbench | Select the string recipe and put vines in the ingredient slot. | Vines themselves do not meet a string requirement. |
| Kibble | Example using a compatible corpse/fish and bark | Millstone | Check known processing recipes and ingredient categories, then process. | Check the finished food’s name. |

No universal conversion rate for output quantities or speed is given. All special-material and food combinations are outside scope.
Make items that directly support everyday survival first

| Item to make | Recipe/skill/station prerequisites | Tools and materials | Processing action | Use/exceptions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Makeshift bed | Workbench, Crafting 2, initial recipe | 2 grass, 4 leaves | Craft → hold → place → sleep | Recovery also depends on material, quality and properties. |
| String | Workbench, Crafting 2, initial recipe | Example using 2 vines | Choose and craft the string recipe. | Alternative thread quantities are not established in this table. |
| Torch | Workbench, Crafting 2, initial recipe | 1 branch, 1 string, 2 resin | After crafting, equip it from inventory in the light-source slot. | A wall torch is a separate recipe. |
| Grass wall | Workbench, Crafting 1, initial recipe | 1 grass, 1 leaf | Craft → hold → check direction and place | Dropping it on the ground does not make an enclosure. |
| Grass door | Workbench, Crafting 1, initial recipe | 1 grass, 1 log | Craft → install at the wall’s entrance | Do not leave the passage blocked. |
| Shipping chest | Workbench, Crafting 4, recognized through a quest | 2 logs, 2 string, 2 sticks | Check materials → craft → place | See early-progression answer 3 for the specified material. |
| Millstone | Workbench, Crafting 4, purchased recipe | 4 stones, 2 string, 2 branches | Recognize the acquired recipe, then craft and place. | Difference from the old 3-branch value checked against the public table |

Prepare suitable tools at the tinker’s table
These examples select stone. Do not assume making a pickaxe allows mining anywhere regardless of ore hardness. Material hardness and your character’s skills affect whether work is possible.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Item to make | Recipe/skill/station prerequisites | Tools and materials | Processing action | Use/exceptions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Woodcutter’s axe | Tinker’s table, Crafting 1, initial recipe | 1 stone, 1 stick, 1 string | Craft, hold it and select the harvesting target. | For wood gathering. No need to rush a replacement if you have the starting axe. |
| Pickaxe | Tinker’s table, Crafting 2, initial recipe | 2 stones, 1 stick, 1 string | Select the stone material, craft and use on the target. | If mining fails, check hardness/Mining skill. |
| Hammer | Tinker’s table, Crafting 2, initial recipe | 2 stones, 1 stick, 1 string | After crafting, inspect the target and use dismantling. | Do not test it on important furniture. |
| Shovel | Tinker’s table, Crafting 3, initial recipe | 2 stones, 1 stick, 1 string | After crafting, check the target and Dig action. | Distinguish optional and required ingredients in the recipe. |
| Hoe | Tinker’s table, Crafting 3, initial recipe | 1 stone, 1 stick, 1 nail | Craft and select the tilling target/action. | A farming tool. Crafting it alone does not grow a field. |

Omitted quantities for stone/ingot alternatives have not been invented. If using something other than the listed stone, read the in-game ingredient selection and resulting item.
Work backward from one purpose to the next facility
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Goal | Required facility/conditions | Prepare first | Action order | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Use stone as a material | Stonecutter | Recognized recipe, nails, planks and stones | Sawing → make nails → stonecutter → cut stone | Distinguish stone from cut stone. |
| Use a mason’s table | Workbench, Crafting 7, recognized recipe | 4 planks, 6 cut stones | Process materials → craft at workbench → place | Crafting the table and the Sculpture skill used at it are separate. |
| Use a drafting table | Workbench, Crafting 8, recognized recipe | 8 planks, 8 cut stones, 4 nails | Prepare quantities → craft at workbench → place | Making a drafting table does not reveal every recipe. |
| Make longer-lasting food | Millstone and a compatible processing recipe | Food ingredients and bark | Avoid leaving too much unprocessed food; check the recipe and process. | Process before spoilage and inspect the result. |

You need not aim to install every advanced station at once. Adding only the facility needed for the current item makes skill and material shortages easier to identify.
Diagnose crafting failures from the list’s state
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Crafting problem | Knowledge/skill/inventory/location check | Next action | Version differences |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name absent from the list | Recipe knowledge and correct facility | Recipe search with F2 or another method → check crafting location → open the relevant facility | Some added recipes are recognized after opening the interface once. |
| Visible but requirements unmet | Skill name and base/modified skill | Compare the character’s skills with the requirement. | Do not read overall character level as Crafting level. |
| You have logs but lack planks | Raw/processed difference | Process planks at the sawmill. | Do not prepare everything solely from old quantities. |
| You have grass but lack string | Grass/vine/string distinction | Gather vines and craft string at the workbench. | For alternative ingredients, check current quantities. |
| Clicking the facility picks it up | Whether it is installed and which action is selected | Place it and review held tools/items and action prompts. | Prioritize current bindings if changed. |
| Finished item rejected by a quest | Material, type, placement, equipment and reporting | Check the relevant closed early-progression answer. | Do not mix specified materials or different items with the same name. |
| Stored materials cannot be found | Which chest, item name and quantity | Locate them with Ctrl+F, take out the amount needed and recheck. | Not every chest is assumed remotely accessible without conditions. |
| Working reduces HP | Overwork and load | Stop, sleep/organize and resume after recovery. | Traits and abilities change safe limits. |

Inspect the output before spending valuable materials
- For an unfamiliar recipe, test one item with ordinary ingredients. Check that expensive or quest items are not automatically selected.
- Check material hardness for tools such as pickaxes. Before persisting against an unmineable target, inspect tool material and Mining skill separately.
- Do not rank beds by name alone. Check material, quality, comfort and actual condition after recovery.
- Place each crafted facility from inventory and use it once. Store quest items, shipping items and retained crafting materials separately.
No strongest-material ranking, hardness requirements for every mining target or guaranteed processing profits are provided. This guide prioritizes usable tools and making the intended item without mistakes.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I make a workbench?
Use the basic-crafting ability, which needs no facility. Sources list 2 logs and Crafting 1. After crafting, place and open it too.
Are logs and planks, or branches and sticks, the same ingredients?
They are different materials. A sawmill processes logs into planks and branches into sticks. Read requirement names and collect processed items before the next craft.
What should I check when materials seem sufficient but crafting fails?
Check recipe knowledge, the correct facility, required skill and ingredient form in order. If storage locations are unclear, use home search, take out the necessary amount and inspect it.
Ingredient quantities differ from an old guide.
First check your version and release branch, then prioritize in-game recipe requirements. This article compares public data and multiple sources, not all data bundled with Stable. Conflicting values are recorded in the source notes.
