First choose an article by the action blocking you
To the Moon follows two doctors backward through memories to fulfill Johnny's final wish. This hub does not explain the ending; it helps locate the next action.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Problem | Where to read | First check |
|---|---|---|
| Controls, saving and first exploration | Getting started | Whether conversation ended and movement is available |
| Missing memory links or an unclear target object | The corresponding walkthrough location | Objects, people and exits on screen |
| You cannot complete a tile-flipping puzzle | Puzzle guide | Memento name and whether the board is still untouched |
| You returned to the same place after the story advanced | Walkthrough from Act 2 onward | Whether the memory's time period and people match the previous visit |

The walkthrough separates location hints from specific answers read only when opened. Use just the parts you want.
Original PC version: distinguish dates, related releases and controls
The official game page gives November 1, 2011 as the release date, and Steam displayed the same date when checked. This guide targets the base-game AppID 206440 linked by the official page.
- Check that the Steam product is To the Moon. Sigmund Minisodes 1 and 2 are separate short stories.
- Do not substitute console or smartphone button instructions and achievement lists for original PC controls.
- Memory 1–16 are convenient scene-finding numbers in this guide. Shorter walkthroughs may omit sections and use different numbering.
The current Steam date is not asserted to be the first date of Steam sales. The installed build number is unconfirmed.
Normal memories progress through collecting links, preparation and activation
You do not carry every discovered object through memories. Memory links are clues enabling memento use; a memento is a special object for entering the next memory.
- Check the lit markers at the bottom to see whether the current memory has enough links.
- Collect links by inspecting objects, watching conversations and entering other areas. One event can light several markers.
- In normal scenes with all five links, return to the memento and advance the action removing its protection.
- Complete the picture in the preparation puzzle.
- After returning to exploration, inspect the same memento again to activate it.
The first memory and later automatic progression have exceptions. This does not mean finding five objects on every screen.
With one link missing, check conversations and paths
Clicking objects in sequence will not find links granted by entering places or conversations. Narrow down which type remains before repeating exploration.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Investigation type | What to check | Common oversight |
|---|---|---|
| Objects | Point at distinctive objects such as clocks, books, bottles, flowers and stuffed toys | High wall objects or small objects near your feet |
| People | Talk to people who appear and finish their conversations | The same person at another time, or another conversation after movement |
| Places | Enter the adjacent screen through an open exit and actually cross bridges or passages | Searching only the screen with the memento |
| Time | Check destinations marked by an hourglass | Not viewing a slightly earlier scene inside the same building |
No matching entries in this table. Shorten the query or clear it to restore all entries.
Prioritizing people appearing or paths opening after conversation, rather than already-inspected objects, narrows the search.
Cursor changes mark interactions
Movement, investigation, exits and boarding/dismounting can all use clicks but target different things. If nothing responds, move the cursor to the target's feet or doorway instead of clicking repeatedly.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Marker | Meaning | When uncertain |
|---|---|---|
| Magnifying glass / hand | Inspect, talk or interact | Check whether dialogue is waiting |
| Arrow / door | Move to another screen or room | Check building doorways as well as screen edges |
| Footprints | Climb onto or off a step or platform | Inspect the platform before clicking the high object directly |
| Hourglass | Move to another point in time within that memory | Recheck people and object states even in the same location |
No matching entries in this table. Shorten the query or clear it to restore all entries.
Keyboard movement and confirmation are available too, but direct mouse selection can help with small mementos.
Picture puzzles flip columns, rows or diagonals, not individual tiles
Edge buttons flip a whole line to complete the picture. Exceeding the displayed move count does not prevent continuing to solve it.
- Distinguish dark fixed portions from the brighter tiles you can change.
- Bottom buttons flip the column above; left buttons flip the row to their right; the lower-left button flips a diagonal.
- Pressing the same button again reverses the flips it caused.
- Before using a solution, restore the initial board rather than applying it after several previous moves.
Minimizing moves and advancing the story are separate goals. Specific sequences are in another article.
Taking breaks is fine; note the location and objective before resuming
Long conversations make saving at a controllable break useful. Finishing in one uninterrupted sitting is not assumed.
- Open the menu with right-click or another supported input and check the save destination and update time.
- Use separate manual slots in case you want to revisit earlier memories.
- Before quitting, note location, lit-link count and next objective in one line, such as rainy lighthouse / four links / stuffed toy found.
- When resuming, read your note and in-game Notes; if the next action remains unclear, use the location guide.
Do not assume autosaves alone allow revisiting old scenes. Manually save sections you want to keep.
Not a combat-focused RPG, but brief control challenges exist
Normal exploration has no leveling or equipment choices. However, horse riding and late obstacle-avoidance sections mean the game cannot be described as having no action whatsoever or guaranteeing nobody gets stuck.
- While riding, check movement and acceleration instructions; besides chasing, try waiting along the path.
- When temporary controls appear, check the displayed keys rather than assuming the usual mouse input.
- If you want to read the story without skipping dialogue, open only needed solution sections.
