To the Moon puzzle guide: flipping hints, 16 memento solutions and memory connections
Original PC memento preparation puzzles explained through row, column and diagonal actions. Scene-specific button sequences start collapsed; library input and age connections separate hints from answers too.
Edition: To the Moon original PC Steam base game, AppID 206440. Controls target Windows mouse and keyboard. Mobile/console ports or remakes, Sigmund Minisodes and other series games are outside scope.

First identify the puzzle stage
Choosing an object, completing a picture and connecting ages require different actions. Check the current screen before trying a solution.

Horse riding and later corridor obstacles are in the walkthrough. Redoing flipping puzzles does not remove those control sections.
Before activation: five links and three interaction stages
Distinguish using links, preparing the picture and activating the memento. If the completed picture returned you to exploration, inspect the same object again.
- With fewer than five lit markers, seek an object, conversation or movement trigger. Even knowing the memento's location normally does not remove the link requirement.
- Once lit, interact with the target and finish removing its protection.
- Choosing preparation opens the flipping puzzle.
- After completing the picture, inspect the memento again in exploration to activate it.
The first paper rabbit and later automatic acquisitions are exceptions. Five surrounding objects need not be collected in every scene.
Hint: pressing the same button twice restores the tiles
One button flips its whole row, column or diagonal. Intersections of two flipped lines change twice and thus return to their original side.
- Press a bottom button once and check the column above changing. Left buttons change the row to their right.
- The lower-left diagonal button changes the line from bottom-left to top-right.
- Look at the other tiles in the row or column, not only one troublesome tile.
- If you have made just 1 incorrect button press, press that same button 1 more time to cancel its effect.
- After several moves, press the recorded buttons again in their recorded order to restore tile sides. The move counter itself does not reset.
This organizational method follows the flipping rules. Use it to complete the picture first, rather than to guarantee the ideal move count.
Reading solution tables: count R from the top and C from the left
This guide identifies buttons by screen position rather than color perception. Source H/V labels refer to the direction in which buttons are arranged; directly translating them as rows/columns can reverse their meaning.
- Count all five vertical positions, including the dark unused upper level. Do not renumber only the smaller active area.
- Solutions assume an untouched initial board. For a partly changed board, undo earlier presses or reload a save from before the puzzle.
- Match scene and memento appearance. The same toy or bag can have a different solution in another scene.

| This guide's notation | Button position | Supporting color |
|---|---|---|
| R1〜R5 | Count left-edge buttons top to bottom; each flips a horizontal row | Top to bottom: blue, green, yellow, orange, purple |
| C1〜C5 | Count bottom-edge buttons left to right; each flips a vertical column | Left to right: blue, green, yellow, orange, purple |
| D | Diagonal button in the lower-left corner | Included in neither R nor C |

These convert TempusMori's original-version solutions into position notation and compare them with an independent scene-based guide. They have not been retested with in-game inputs, nor proven shortest for every board.

Concrete flipping solutions: early mementos 1–8
Press each button once in arrow order. Move count means the number of presses in this example. Other orders or solutions may give the same result.

|---|---|---|
| 1 First cliff / blue and yellow paper rabbit | C2 → C3 | 2 |
| 2 House with piano / umbrella | D → R4 → C2 | 3 |
| 3 Rainy lighthouse / platypus | C2 → R3 → R2 | 3 |
| 4 Convalescent bedroom / purple flower | D → C1 → R4 → R2 | 4 |
| 5 House under construction / olive jar | D → R5 → R2 | 3 |
| 6 Bar / paper on table | R5 → R3 → C2 → C3 | 4 |

The purple flower at 4 is used if you stay and explore. Skipping it by following Neil is not a bug.

Concrete flipping solutions: later mementos 9–16
Match the place before entering inputs. Even the same platypus or bag picture can have a different layout.

| Scene / memento | Inputs from initial board | Press count |
|---|---|---|
| 9 Cliff before the house exists / bag | C1 → R5 → R3 → R1 | 4 |
| 10 Library / book | R3 → R4 → D → C2 → C3 | 5 |
| 11 Road after wedding / rabbit | R2 → C3 → C5 | 3 |
| 12 Ranch / handbag | R3 → R1 → R5 → D | 4 |

After completion, inspect the memento again to travel. If the picture is incomplete despite matching press counts, first check for swapped R/C or starting from a partly changed board.
Library hint: return to the person who knows the answer
David's animal in the book does not require an external search. Follow the scene with multiple Johnnys and River after she moves to reception.
- Talk to other versions of Johnny as well as the one where the question appeared.
- After inspecting the lower-left appearance, watch the pair at reception.
- Read the animal-name explanation to the end and note the name corresponding to David.
- Once you have the clue, return to the lower-right question location.
The exact word is in the next collapsed section.

Library answer: entered text and the following memento
The entered word is cobra. Once answered correctly and links are complete, proceed to preparing the memento, separately from the flipping puzzle.
- Return to the question, enter cobra in English letters and confirm.
- For a mistyped word, delete extra letters and enter it again. Do not add explanations beyond the animal name.
- If links remain, finish reception or shelf investigation, then inspect the book on the counter's right.
- For the book's flipping puzzle, use 10 Library / book on this page.
Japanese translation or accepted input characters may display differently, so also check the in-game reception conversation.
Age-connection hint: align objects with the adjacent age
When several ages appear as circular arrangements, inspecting Johnny rotates surrounding objects. Instead of matching every circle's orientation, put the same object at adjoining connection points.
- Choose an age at one end and find an object shared with the adjacent age.
- Rotate the objects toward the sides where those 2 adjacent time periods connect.
- Use the finished connection to find a common object with the next age.
- Once all connect, return to elderly Johnny's memory to check the result.
Flipping notation R/C/D does not apply here. Sources starting from different ends still seek the same result.

Age-connection answer and what to do afterward
From newer ages on the right to older ages on the left, shared objects are flower, paper rabbit, book and clock. Do not keep pressing the final inaccessible area as though it were an unanswered part of the same puzzle.
- After connecting, select the oldest Johnny to return to the latest memory.
- Go left from the house to the cliff and advance Johnny and Lily's conversation.
- After the scene showing no change, revisit cinema and school and continue real-world investigation. Recollecting every memento is unnecessary.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Adjacent pair counted from the right | Object facing the connection | Check |
|---|---|---|
| 1 and 2 | Flower | Rotate until both connection points show flowers |
| 2 and 3 | Yellow paper rabbit | Preserve the flower connection already made |
| 3 and 4 | Book | Check the paper-rabbit-side connection too |
| 4 and 5 | Clock | Connect through to the oldest accessible age |

This includes Act 2 developments. For uncertainty about the next action, use Act 2 in the walkthrough.
Frequently asked questions
Is R2 the second button from the bottom on the left?
No. R counts from the top here. R2 is the second button from the top on the left, the green button. Count five levels including the dark one.
The guide's sequence does not complete the picture
Check the same scene, an initial board and unswapped R/C. Applying an initial-board answer on top of previous moves produces a different state.
Must I match ideal moves to finish the story?
Original-version flipping puzzles remain solvable beyond that count. This guide lists presses for its sequence, distinct from achievement requirements or guaranteed shortest solutions.
