Melee weapons: consider reach and retreat together

When approaching an enemy to attack, check both whether the attack reaches and whether you can dodge the next bullets. If chasing traps you at the screen edge, first create a route back toward the center. Different weapons suit landing a heavy hit and making small attacks while moving. High defense alone is not a reason to keep taking enemy attacks.

Ranged weapons: check accuracy as well as range

Attacking from afar loses effective damage if shots miss moving enemies. Maintain a safe distance while aligning your firing line with where enemies are heading. Do not focus solely on aiming at enemies; watch bullets approaching you, too. If enemies close in, re-establish distance and a firing line before continuing to attack.

Magic weapons: check scaling and sustained use

A magic label does not mean every weapon has wide coverage, high damage, or identical costs. Read your current stats and each weapon's attack method and conditions. Even a strong hit gives fewer boss openings if you cannot sustain its use. Compare room-clearing speed separately from consistently hitting bosses.

Checks before swapping

  1. Identify one problem with your current weapon.
  2. Use descriptions and test attacks to check whether the candidate fixes it.
  3. Check whether equipped effects will cease to apply.
  4. Choose by safely surviving the next fight, rather than rarity and appearance alone.

Frequently asked questions

Should I immediately swap to a rare weapon?

No. Its scaling, Traits, or ease of hitting may not fit. Compare performance that is effective in your current build.

How many tiles is its range?

Old numbers treating this as a grid-based turn game have been removed. Check actual on-screen reach and ease of hitting while moving.
