What is PEAK?
Check standard-version climbing through empty hands, footing, and stamina. Three practical guides cover climbing controls, camp supplies and saves, and choosing tools.
Edition: PC Steam app 3527290, standard release, no mods. Normal expeditions on standard Peak difficulty, solo or co-op for up to four. Tenderfoot, high Ascent, and Custom Runs are covered only where they differ.
Verification scope: Standard patch 2.6.a, dated October 2, 2026, checked against official sources on October 4, 2026. The Final Ascent and camp autosaves are implemented. Excludes beta, mods, and unreleased ports. Individual controls/item effects were checked against public sources, not tested in-game on 2.6.a.

Align expedition settings first
The same wall's climbable distance varies with held items, load, and injury. Check this run's difficulty and your current condition first, separating control errors from inadequate preparation.

| Check | This article's baseline | If yours differs |
|---|---|---|
| Release version | Standard patch 2.6.a | Do not assume features shown in beta or mod videos apply |
| Difficulty | Standard Peak, normal expedition | Tenderfoot, high Ascent, and Custom differ in consumption and conditions |
| Players | Solo or up to four total | In co-op, include teammates' positions and inventories in checks |
| Map | Island changes every 24 hours | Do not treat another date's ledges and items as guaranteed today |

Check settings at the airport departure terminal before leaving. Mini Runs, useful for short practice, belong to Custom Runs; distinguish them from normal-expedition achievement conditions.
Choose a guide by problem
Rather than reading everything halfway up a dangerous wall, first perform only the checks matching your current symptom.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Problem | Current state | First check | Guide to read |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cannot grab the wall | Left-click uses an item instead | Are your hands empty, and can you reach the wall? | Beginner: climb, rest, and carry |
| Resting does not fully refill stamina | The right side of the gauge is filled with colors | Hunger, injury, or load? | Beginner: stamina checks |
| Run out while climbing | Long distance to the next ledge | Intermediate standing spots, pitons, or ropes | Tools: placement and requirements |
| Cannot reach the next section | Fog wall beyond camp | Is everyone gathered, and is the campfire lit? | Progression: camps and next sections |
| A teammate is not moving | Are they downed or already a ghost? | Distinguish unconsciousness from death | Progression: rescue and recovery |
| Items differ after loading | After resuming/reconnecting | Standard-version number, original host, and save location | Progression: quitting and resuming |
| A tool you picked up does not work | Unsure whether it is in the bag, held, or charged | Take it out; check use prompt and placement surface | Tools: why they do not work |

“Beginner,” “progression,” and “tools” refer to the related articles linked at the end. They share the same standard-version baseline.
Change just three things before retrying
Repeating the same climb immediately after falling means attempting the same distance with a smaller, injury-restricted gauge. Remembering the failure point is not enough; change the next move.
- Return to flat ground, empty your hands, and stop sprinting or jumping. Check how much ordinary stamina recovers.
- If colored conditions remain, identify the cause: reorganize tools for load, eat for hunger, or heal injuries. Do not expect waiting to remove everything.
- Plan a rest point before where you stopped last time. In co-op, confirm that the rear player can reach it before the leader advances.
This is an example for isolating failure causes, not a measured climbing route through a particular daily map.
Do not treat old biome orders as fixed routes
Mesa does not always follow Alpine. Updates added alternative terrain at the same progression stages. Prioritize today's section name and the footholds you can see.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Progression stage | Current combinations | Preparation to change |
|---|---|---|
| Start | Shore | Check hand switching, short climbs, and collected supplies |
| Forest section | Tropics or Roots | Distinguish rain-wet walls from wind/spores |
| Middle section | Alpine or Mesa | Choose cold protection or shade/heat measures accordingly |
| Late section | Caldera/Kiln or Gloom/Citadel | Late sections still differ in scenery and hazards |

Does not cover every hidden section, achievement unlock, or date-specific correct route. Limited to supplies and transitions needed for ordinary climbing.
When resting, check the camp's state too
With camp saves in the current standard release, you need not finish a long climb in one sitting. Leaving midway and wiping out are not treated the same way, however.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Goal | Check first | Action after checking |
|---|---|---|
| Brief supply break | Fire lit and everyone nearby | Organize food and held tools; the leader should not wander off |
| Finish for now | Last campfire lit | Keep the expedition you intend to resume; do not start a new one |
| Resume in co-op | Same expedition with the original host | Even in 2.6.a, non-host saves can have world-state differences |
| Restart after a wipe | Expedition's ended state | Prepare as a new attempt; do not treat a camp save as death insurance |
