DLC scope: start without deleting the base-game save
Echoes of the Eye adds an investigation within the base game. Steam's Archaeologist Edition includes the base game and this DLC. Starting does not require recreating your base-game save.
- With the DLC installed, continue your usual save
- Inspect the new museum exhibit on Timber Hearth
- For only the introduction, read through the next hints and answer
- Check Reduced Frights if the frightening sequences are burdensome. It does not remove exploration in darkness
You may begin at any stage of base-game progress, but familiarity with controls and the Ship Log helps organize the investigation.
Starting hints: photographs and their viewpoint
The new exhibit points to an observation trail, not simply the name of a destination to fly to immediately.
- Hint 1: find the radio tower pictured in the exhibit on Timber Hearth's surface
- Hint 2: compare its photographs and read the capture conditions of the anomalous image
- Hint 3: visit the satellite that took it and inspect the system under the same conditions

Introduction answer: follow the dark shape from the satellite's 40-degree angle
Investigate the radio tower early in one loop, then fly straight to the satellite next loop to match timing more easily.
- Inspect recordings and photographs in Timber Hearth's radio tower. The picture showing a dark shape across the Sun has Satellite Angle 40 degrees
- Identify Deep Space Radio at the tower, then find the Deep Space Satellite using the Signalscope
- Match velocity without colliding with the satellite; look toward the Sun when its angle display approaches 40 degrees
- Fly toward the dark shape overlapping the Sun. Avoid straying far from that angle and losing it
- After entering the hidden structure, land in the hangar and shine the flashlight on the entrance's light-responsive device
For later visits, mark the Stranger on the HUD from the Ship Log. You do not need to recreate the satellite photograph every time.
First investigation of the Stranger: connect light, river and slides
Following the river around its ring can return you to the same place. Connect diagrams from one settlement with structures in another.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Target | Action or observation | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| Raft | Shine light on the light-responsive device in your intended travel direction | Usable docks and shoreline landmarks |
| Slide projector | Insert a reel and place a lantern correctly as its light source | What appears before and after burned portions |
| River Lowlands | Inspect the low building near the entrance and its surroundings | Safe access through Ghost Matter and a portable tool |
| Cinder Isles | Inspect the island tower and riverbank | Another entrance leading to the tower's upper levels |
| Hidden Gorge | Inspect the side route from the river and upper/lower building sections | A movable elevator and slides about damage |
| Reservoir | Inspect structures upstream of the dam | Entrance changes before and after water levels shift |

The dam's collapse changes exploration conditions. Record rooms that become inaccessible separately from underwater structures that become easier to find.
Artifact hints: not the same as a projector lantern
If a carried tool does not fit an ordinary projector, seek clues to another use. Hidden Gorge's experiment and damage records are especially useful.
- Hint 1: in buildings with many murals, note locations showing the same picture
- Hint 2: light can hide a route as well as open one
- Hint 3: consider what to do while holding the artifact near a fire unlike a normal campfire

Artifact and other-world answers
The following covers an important mid-DLC mechanism. Distinguish ordinary lanterns from the metal Artifact.
- Use the Scout to check safe access to the Ghost Matter-surrounded workshop in River Lowlands. Enter through the opening beneath the floor and take an Artifact
- Find the ringed-planet mural in a mural building and move nearby lanterns away to darken it
- Descend the revealed stairs and choose Doze Off at the green fire while holding the Artifact
- Test Focus and Conceal after arrival. Focus operates distant devices; Conceal helps observe and move in darkness
- When entering through ordinary sleep, losing the Artifact flame returns you to the original location. Falling into water interrupts exploration
The damaged laboratory also contains differently shaped experimental tools. Use a completed Artifact for normal exploration rather than confusing it with a prototype.

Other-world entrances and destinations (midgame spoilers)
Your entrance determines arrival location. Entering from another fire becomes useful later, so learn the connected docks first.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Green fire in the real world | Destination | First check |
|---|---|---|
| River Lowlands | Shrouded Woodlands | Open the door allowing return from the waterway |
| Cinder Isles island tower | Starlit Cove | Reveal the dock and enable raft access |
| Hidden Gorge | Endless Canyon | Inspect the building and elevator while lights remain on |
| Reservoir underwater structure | Subterranean Lake | Inspect the sealed structure and what is visible through its gap |

Even within the same loop, flooding of the corresponding real-world fire interrupts exploration.
Island tower still unexplored: hints about lights and murals
Reaching its upper levels and opening the upper wall are separate problems. Review the vision seen when interacting with the Subterranean Lake seal too.
- Hint 1: inspect near the real tower's waterline as well as visible outside entrances
- Hint 2: the vision connects day and night versions of the same tower
- Hint 3: try extinguishing the lights beside the desired wall in the other tower

Island tower answers: secret room to three records
First try opening the sealed structure at Subterranean Lake slightly and watch the vision in its escaping light.
- Create the bridge to the tower side in Starlit Cove and extinguish the candles in the corresponding room
- Return to reality and climb upstairs through the cave entrance below the island tower
- Check the remaining symbol sequence in the room opened behind the mural
- Approach the Abandoned Temple's broken bridge from the Hidden Gorge side and enter the matching symbols
- Investigate the three places indicated in the temple: River Lowlands drainage, a side route near Cinder Isles and beneath the Hidden Gorge elevator
- Watch each hidden slide reel and record archive-entry routes in the Ship Log
Moving Hidden Gorge's elevator without riding it reveals the space beneath. Check your landing before descending.
Three archives: hints using terrain and time first
Repeatedly evading pursuit head-on is not the only method. Daylit reconnaissance and real-world fire conditions help.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Location | Hint 1 | Hint 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Shrouded Woodlands | Follow the inhabitants' destination from a distance | Consider entering so you remain after their fire is flooded |
| Endless Canyon | While lit, inspect the building's far side and the elevator to the raft | After lights go out, consider returning through an entrance other than the front |
| Starlit Cove | Find how to extinguish the light over the well | Lure the opponent with light while taking another route yourself |

Reduced Frights retains route and light puzzles. This guide does not fix enemy speed or numbers as universal mechanics.

Woodlands answers: enter from another fire and visit the lodge after flooding
Waiting after entering from River Lowlands wakes you when that fire floods too. First open the return door beside the waterway.
- Enter Shrouded Woodlands from River Lowlands and use the extinguishing device to open the waterway-side door
- Return to reality once, then enter from a different fire, such as Hidden Gorge
- Ride a raft to the Woodlands dock
- Find the concealed passage at the tree base used by patrolling inhabitants and head toward the lodge with music
- Wait for dam collapse to extinguish the River Lowlands fire and remove the inhabitants, then enter the lodge
- Pass through the fireplace shown in the slides and take the elevator beyond down to the Forbidden Archive
You do not have to wait inside the lodge. Wait somewhere safe for flooding, then follow the already checked route after inhabitants disappear.

Endless Canyon answers: leave the elevator ready and return by water
This route reduces lengthy dark trips through the front building. Inspect passages and the elevator while it is lit first.
- Enter from Hidden Gorge, create the lodge's internal bridge and cross to the other side
- Send the elevator down to the raft dock without riding it
- Return to the outside upper lodge and cross the invisible bridge learned from slides to the extinguishing device
- After extinguishing the lodge, return to reality and re-enter from another fire
- Raft to the Endless Canyon dock and ride the elevator you left below
- From the building's far side, take the lower mural passage and another invisible bridge to the archive elevator
Align yourself before crossing. Matching slide information with daylit reconnaissance is easier than anticipating an unfamiliar shortcut.

Starlit Cove answers: extinguish lights and descend the well
The well entrance combines illumination and an alarm. Circle the surroundings to find its extinguishing device first.
- From the cove perimeter, head to the waterside raft. Conceal the Artifact's light near the alarm
- Travel by raft along the rock wall; Focus on the hand-shaped device in the gap to move across
- Ride the elevator up and extinguish the area's lights through the peephole device
- Use the return hand device and elevator toward the well. Lure its guard toward one side using light, then pass on the other
- Conceal light while descending the well to avoid its alarm. Inspect edge passages in the underground hall instead of running straight toward the central opening
- Reach the stairs and elevator beyond, then inspect every archive slide
Running continuously in total darkness loses sight of holes and dead ends. Briefly illuminate from a safe distance, check the route and conceal again.
Final seals: hints when symbol searching stalls
The three archives are not merely clues for restoring unreadable symbols. Consider applying different rules to different obstacles.
- Hint 1: is a raft's transition between locations the same as ordinary water?
- Hint 2: can you see something unusual outside the Artifact's illuminated range?
- Hint 3: what can an alarm do? Would an entrance method other than sleeping have the same result?

Final-seal answers: use three rules in the same visit
This directly explains late-DLC mechanisms. They are intended puzzles using phenomena learned in the archives, not mod or console exploits.
- Carry a completed Artifact to the Cinder Isles green fire. Instead of Doze Off, touch the fire to die in-game and enter Starlit Cove
- Reveal the dock and board a raft. Step off during the dark-cave transition between areas to fall to a different level of Subterranean Lake
- Use the extinguishing device on the side you reach to remove one seal, then raft to the central side
- Place the Artifact on safe ground and walk beyond its illumination range. Use the now-visible bridge pieces to adjust the symbol device into one continuous path
- Pick up the Artifact again, cross the aligned bridge and remove the next seal using its device
- Cross the alarm bridge. With no sleeping body in reality on this visit, the alarm cannot wake you. Remove the final seal and open the central structure
A visit entered through death in reality cannot return to ordinary wake-and-explore travel. Complete other investigations first and use this as the final sequence.

DLC ending and returning to the base game
After entering, use the light and tools the other person shows rather than searching for another code.
- Go inside the opened structure and watch the offered vision through to the end
- Use the provided tool to show your own memories
- Follow the other person outside and inspect the final vision left there
- This completes the DLC's final scene. End the loop and resume to return to normal exploration
- Following the base game's final route afterward reflects this encounter in its last scene
Completing the DLC does not automatically move you to the base-game ending. Its travel steps are in a separate guide.
Frequently asked questions
Must I wait for the satellite's 40-degree angle every time?
After discovering and recording it once, mark the Stranger on the HUD through the Ship Log for return trips.
Waiting in the Woodlands sends me back too
Your body at the River Lowlands fire is flooded too. Open the Woodlands waterway door first, enter from a different fire and return by raft.
I found the bridge by putting down the Artifact but cannot cross
Finding it is insufficient: adjust the symbol device to align its pieces into a straight path. Then retrieve the Artifact and cross.
Should I wait after seeing the final vision?
You do not need to wait there for another route to unlock automatically. End the loop and follow the base game's final route to see the encounter reflected.
