Ram Village: assemble five units including Alm
- Continue the conversation with Lukas, and speak to Gray, Robin, and Kliff too. Before leaving, check that you have all five, including Alm.
- Mycen does not accompany you at this point. After finding everyone in the first village, proceed to the forest battle.
- In the forest, put Alm and Lukas in front and villagers behind. One approach is to weaken enemies and let villagers finish them, but do not expose them to several enemies if they cannot finish the kill.
| What to check | Action or condition | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| Lukas | Talk in the village to have him accompany you | Check the roster before leaving |
| Gray, Robin, and Kliff | Speak to each one | Do not confuse the names and added characters with Echoes |
Thieves' Forest and Shrine: recruit Silque and check promotions
Archers can counterattack adjacent opponents too. Avoid positioning that assumes standing next to a bow is safe, and explore the back of the shrine after battle.
- Pass through the Thieves' Forest and complete the shrine battle. Speak to Silque at the back to recruit her.
- Villagers can promote from level 3. If the class offered by Mila's servant is not what you want, decline and speak again.
- If you want to progress quickly, making one Mercenary is an option. This guide does not treat assigning everyone the same class as optimal.
- Promotion raises stats below the new class's base values. Distinguish early promotion to ease immediate progression from training to maximize growth.
- If needed, reenter the shrine entrance to repeat battles. Let weak villagers benefit from participation experience rather than forcing them onto the front line.
| What to check | Action or condition | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| Silque | Talk at the back of the shrine after battle | Do not stop checking recruitment just because you won |
| Villager promotion | Consult Mila's servant at level 3 or above | Decline and speak again if the offered class is unwanted |
| Shrine springs | HP and Speed | Three uses total across this location |
Ram Valley: do not face the Leather Shield mercenary alone
- Reduce the thieves and archers to the east, limiting how many you fight alongside the approaching mercenary.
- Keep Silque behind the front line, within healing reach until the shield bearer is defeated.
- Defeat the mercenary for the Leather Shield and give it to someone who will use it in the next battle.
- Returning to the world map restores HP, but does not revive fallen allies. Retry the battle if you do not want to carry the losses forward.
| What to check | Action or condition | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| Shield-bearing mercenary | Reduce nearby enemies before handling him | Do not make Silque take the attacks |
| Leather Shield | Obtained by defeating the mercenary | Check who equips it after collection |
Southern Outpost: long-range bows and post-battle exploration
The enemy archer with a Steel Bow can reach up to five squares. Check that healers are not in range even if you think you placed them far behind.
- Keep villagers and Silque outside bow range and reduce enemies with the front line.
- After victory, walk inside the outpost and speak to Clair.
- Collect the Lightning Sword from the chest. Its attack power is fixed at 15; do not calculate it as a weapon that adds the wielder's Strength.
- Consider sword weight when choosing its user too. Giving someone a strong weapon does not mean they can safely take several enemies.
| What to check | Action or condition | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| Clair | Talk inside the outpost after battle | Do not skip exploration |
| Lightning Sword | Outpost chest | Fixed attack power of 15; does not add Strength |
Southern Zofia to the Deliverance: remember Python on the way out
- Group front-line units near the bridge rather than sending only a few ahead. Handle the cavaliers while protecting the rear.
- After defeating monsters in the Deliverance hideout, go farther inside and speak to Clive and Forsyth.
- On the way back, speak to Python by the entrance. Check all three recruits before leaving.
- If using stat springs at the hideout, record whether you chose Attack or Defense. The location has three total uses, not three for each effect.
| What to check | Action or condition | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| Clive and Forsyth | Talk at the back of the hideout | Explore after the monster battle |
| Python | Talk by the entrance | Check on your way back from the interior too |
| Hideout springs | Attack and Defense | Three uses total across this location |
Zofia Gate: defeat Slayde in ordinary progression
- Fly Clair inside the left door and open it from within. Advance with attackers in front and Silque behind.
- Ordinary progression defeats Slayde and makes Desaix retreat. Training for the Dragon Shield is not required to clear Chapter 1.
- Defeat the remaining enemies, enter Zofia Castle, and collect the Ridersbane from the chest.
- After collection, speak to Mycen to end Chapter 1. Do not advance the conversation first and forget to check the chest.
| What to check | Action or condition | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| Left door | Fly Clair inside to open it | An example using flight |
| Slayde | Defeating him makes Desaix retreat | No fixed procedure for defeating Desaix is provided |
| Zofia Castle | Collect the Ridersbane, then talk to Mycen | Check the chest before ending the chapter |
Growth and losses: Warp is not required in Chapter 1
Silque learns Warp at level 7. If training her, start with opportunities to use Nosferatu after the front line reduces the enemies. Do not send her into a group relying on hits and HP absorption to heal her.
| What to check | Action or condition | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| I want more training | Shrine rematches and participation experience after battle | Do not force unsafe finishing blows or defensive roles |
| Chapter 1 springs | Springs that raise stats | They do not restore fallen allies |
| I want to restore a fallen ally | Later, on Celica's side in Chapter 3, the Dragon Shrine's revival spring has limited uses | Do not treat revival as immediately available in Chapter 1 |
- The Retreat command's appearance conditions, transfers between armies through revival, and stats needed to obtain Desaix's shield are unconfirmed here.
- Robin is listed by his Famicom-version name. This guide does not mix in Echoes character names, facilities, or additional systems.
Checks before ending Chapter 1
- Check the roster for Ram Village's five, Silque, Clair, and the three Deliverance recruits.
- Check collection and ownership of the Leather Shield, Lightning Sword, and Ridersbane.
- Record total uses separately for the shrine and hideout springs.
- Check for fallen allies and retry battles before ending the chapter if needed. Chapter 2 onward has not yet been published.
