Dicevaders Dice Guide: Budge, Chrono and When to Make Pairs
Basic rules, dice manipulation and commander growth requirements · Updated 2026-10-10
Before spending Budge, choose one effect to complete. Making a pair is a means of scoring units in that column and meeting artifact/commander conditions, rather than an end in itself.
Budge makes one-step adjustments; Chrono rerolls
One Budge point raises or lowers a face by 1. For example, changing a 4 to a 3 pairs it with an existing 3. Check the interaction display for which dice can change and your remaining amount.
Chrono rerolls dice or refreshes the shop. Unlike Budge, it does not specify the next face. See whether the current roll can meet your condition before deciding to reroll.
| Resource | What it does | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Budge | Raise or lower a face by 1 | When that change reaches your target column or pair |
| Chrono | Reroll dice / refresh the shop | When you want to change the current roll or shop selection |
| Mini-Dice | Create additional scoring opportunities separate from Base Dice | When combining effects that add or strengthen Mini-Dice |
Gather matching faces and check the column's requirements
Two matching faces form a pair; 3 form a triple; 4 form a quadruple. If a scoring effect specifies "pair," "triple" or "Base Dice only," you must also meet that description.
For commanders with extra dice or special faces, considering only the usual 3 dice is insufficient. Commander-specific systems such as The Core's Kraken Die and The Riftmaker's Rift face also affect combo building.
| Target combination | What to check | Decision guide |
|---|---|---|
| Pair | 2 matching faces and a pair-triggered effect | First look for conditions your current board can meet |
| Triple | 3 matching faces and a triple-triggered effect | Check whether matching them produces growth or additional effects |
| Quadruple | A way to obtain 4 matching faces | Check that the build can actually produce it, including extra dice |
This is not a fixed attack-multiplier table shared by every combination. When a Perk changes scoring or what counts as a combo, prioritize its description.
Example: turn 3, 4, 6 into a pair for the third column you want to develop
Suppose you are playing The Captain and want to develop the third column's artifact. With a roll of 3, 4, 6, changing the 4 to a 3 with Budge creates a pair of 3s. The Mothership turns pair scoring into XP for that column's artifact, aligning dice adjustment with growth.
However, the third column's units or effects may be weak, while another column could score much more. Do not treat this example as the answer every time. Check the target gap and remaining turns, then decide whether you need score or growth now.
- Check that the artifact you want to develop is in column 3.
- Check that the 4 die can be changed and you have Budge remaining.
- Adjust the 4 to a 3 and score the pair of 3s.
- After scoring, check changes in attack and artifact XP.
The roll 3, 4, 6 is an example explaining the operation, not a fixed starting roll or guaranteed winning procedure.
Exceptions created by Perks and artifacts
Some effects change dice manipulation or combo qualification. Do not treat effects you have not obtained as ordinary rules.
| Name | Changed condition | Board consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Monocle(The Captain) | Treat a single Base Die as a pair | An ordinary lone die does not always count as a pair |
| Broken Lens(The Exalted) | Treat pairs as triples, but Base Dice begin cracked | Read the change in dice state as well as the benefit of triple qualification |
| Hydra Head(The Core) | Add 1 more Kraken Base Die | Consider faces and columns including the extra Kraken |
| Torpedo(The Captain) | Allow Budge movement between 6 and 1 | Do not assume moving from 6 to 1 is an unconditional basic operation |
| Blob Cutter(Blob Girl) | Increase Mini-Dice Dice Power, but restrict their faces to 1, 2 and 3 | Do not use Mini-Dice effects in columns 4-6 on the same assumption |
Check what grows after forming a combo
The same triple produces different benefits depending on your build. The Exalted turns Base Dice triples into artifact XP, while Hex Prince's Flower Pot restores Honey on triples. Both therefore have reasons to aim for triples.
The Core's Dread Knot increases every unit's STR on a quadruple. Before taking such conditional effects, check how your available dice can actually meet the condition to avoid leaving them inactive.
| Build example | What happens when it qualifies | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| The Exalted + a Base Dice triple | Grant artifact XP | Are the Base Dice requirements met? |
| Hex Prince+Flower Pot | Respawn Honey on a triple | Can Honey collection and respawning feed the next scoring action? |
| The Core+Dread Knot | Increase every unit's STR on a quadruple | Do you have a way to match 4 dice, such as extra dice? |
| Blob Girl+Oozone | Increase the Dice Power of Mini-Dice scoring that column | Check that it targets Mini-Dice and which column it occupies |
These are examples built around activation requirements, not procedures guaranteeing item appearances or optimal highest-difficulty builds.
