Dicevaders Commander Guide: Growth Requirements and Builds for All 10

Basic rules, dice manipulation and commander growth requirements · Updated 2026-10-10

Your commander changes how the same board develops. First read what the Starter Perk requires, then collect units, artifacts and dice manipulation that let you repeat that action.

Compare 10 commanders by the actions that generate growth

This list supports build planning rather than ranking commanders. It does not mean locked commanders are available immediately. Choose one whose requirements you understand from those available on your selection screen.

The Captain: align Budge spending with pairs and growth

The Mothership Starter Perk grants 1 Budge at the start of each turn and 10 XP to the artifact in a column where you score a pair. Linking a target column to pair-making adjustments makes it an accessible introduction to dice manipulation.

With Monocle, a lone Base Die also counts as a pair. Torpedo allows Budge movement between 6 and 1. These are exceptions after obtaining them, so check that you have them before relying on them.

  1. Choose the artifact column you want to develop.
  2. Find faces that Budge can turn into a pair in that column.
  3. After scoring the pair, check XP and attack.

Making pairs easily and producing high attack in that column are separate matters. You also need to consider growing its units.

Blob Girl and The Core: distinguish which dice you use

Blob Girl gains Mini-Dice at the start of the turn and grants artifact XP in the columns they score. Oozone increases Mini-Dice Dice Power in its column, fitting a build that gathers Mini-Dice effects.

Blob Cutter increases Mini-Dice Dice Power but restricts their faces to 1, 2 and 3. If taking it, reconsider builds relying on Mini-Dice scoring columns 4-6.

The Core adds Kraken Die to the normal roll and grows artifacts in columns using it. Hydra Head adds another Kraken, while Rib Cannon grants Budge and Mult when Kraken Base Dice score its column. Watch the Kraken column rather than treating every die alike.

Blob GirlMini-Dice scoring columns and dedicated effectsTreating Base Dice-only effects as Mini-Dice effects

Hex Prince and The Exalted: check collection versus level-ups

Hex Prince's Honeycomb lets Base Dice collect a column's Honey for money and XP for that column's artifact. Royal Jelly adds Mini-Dice when collecting Honey and lets Mini-Dice collect Honey too.

Flower Pot respawns Honey when scoring a triple. Considering collection columns alongside ways to respawn Honey reveals a direction that connects scoring, shopping and growth.

The Exalted's Divine Touch activates the effects of artifacts at LV3 or below when they level up. Base Dice triples also grant artifact XP. Dark Medal changes the target to LV4 or above, so reread the description rather than assuming the same conditions after growth.

Honey collection and level-ups are different growth conditions. Check what you can collect or develop next turn alongside high attack values.

Whisperer, The Duchess and Blood Beast: use additions and removals on the board

Whisperer's Frugivore spawns an Apple in an empty space at turn start when no Apple is on the board. Scoring an Apple as part of a pair leads to its destruction and extra Mini-Dice. Wormfection spawns a Worm when an Apple is destroyed, so its purpose differs from simply keeping an Apple on the board.

The Duchess's The Art Of War enables building through the fourth row and uses Chess units, granting Shield and the column's artifact XP when a non-Token unit spawns. Tableflipper activates bottom-row units' On Bought / On Spawn effects at turn start, so read abilities with their row placement in mind.

Blood Beast gains Rage and artifact XP from destroying non-Token units, entering BEAST MODE through the relationship between Rage and Heart. The mode also changes controls, including automatic Base Dice rolls. Consider which units will score after destruction as well as the benefits of removing units.

CommanderAction to checkCaveat
WhispererSpawn an Apple, score it in a pair and destroy itApple spawning depends on existing Apples and empty spaces
The DuchessSpawn non-Token units and use Chess unitsNot every spawn, including Tokens, necessarily qualifies
Blood BeastDestroy non-Token units and watch mode changesDice controls change before and after the mode transition

The Riftmaker and The Overseer: read special faces and combined requirements

The Riftmaker's Rift face acts as an extra die in columns already containing dice. Using Rift face also grants Chrono and artifact XP. Distinguish abilities specifying Rift face, such as Rift Nova and Gamma Ray, from ordinary numbered faces.

The Overseer's Convergence combines two commanders' abilities. Candidate choices are random each run, and the target's defense grows faster. You cannot freely choose the same two every time, nor do two sets of abilities make the run unconditionally easier.

  1. With The Overseer, check this run's left and right commander candidates.
  2. Consider whether one board can meet both commanders' growth conditions.
  3. Identify the roles of the columns, dice and units needed to meet them.
  4. Watch target growth too; combining abilities alone is not necessarily enough.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Q1 Which commander should beginners learn first? ▼
A

If available, The Captain offers an introduction by clearly connecting Budge-made pairs with artifact growth. This is a guideline based on understandable requirements, not a strongest-commander rating based on win rates.

Q2 Can I buy the same artifacts after changing commanders? ▼
A

XP and dedicated-effect requirements change. First check what your commander demands: pairs, Mini-Dice, Kraken, Honey, spawning or destroying units, and so on.

Q3 Can The Overseer combine any two commanders every run? ▼
A

Available candidates are random each run. Check the current choices and plan a board where both growth requirements work together.
