Departure checklist

A single combined check immediately before the next wall reduces shortages discovered partway up.

  1. Check water and food status and finish any needed resupply.
  2. Check finger taping. Even with automatic treatment enabled, inspect the actual condition.
  3. Check piton/chalk quantities and Climbot recycling.
  4. Recheck whether your pack contains what you need.
  5. Choose the next resting place before leaving.

Frequently asked questions

Can I discard piton fragments?

They can be reused. Climbot makes 1 piton from 2 fragments at a bivouac, so check them especially when supplies run low.

Normal pitons will not go in

They cannot be placed in hard rock. Reroute to another rock surface or use a suitable special piton. Distinguish timing failure from rock-type restrictions.
