⚔️ What Makes Wartales Distinctive

⚔️ Open-ended exploration

Travel freely through a plague-stricken medieval world. Each of the six base-map regions, plus DLC areas, has contracts and stories, with the order largely left to the player.

🛡️ Turn-based tactical depth

Combine engagement, Valour Point management and specialization choices. The eight classes in this scope (six base plus two additional) offer distinct ways to build a strategy.

🏕️ Mercenary troop management

Manage food, morale, equipment and skills. Developing non-combat professions such as Cook, Blacksmith and Scholar supports longer expeditions.

👥 Co-op for up to four players

Build a troop with friends. Dividing classes and coordinating actions opens up tactics that are harder to arrange alone.

🗺️ Region Overview: Six Base Regions + Belerion

Tiltren County (Tiltren County) Beginner (Region-locked: levels 1–3)

The starting county, where the first contracts and recruitment opportunities are concentrated. It introduces combat, camping and professions.

💡 Do not rush onward. Learn professions and establish a small-party combat routine here to make the following regions easier.

Arthes (Arthes) Beginner–intermediate (Region-locked: levels 4–6)

A standard destination after Tiltren. Its enemy levels are similar to Vertruse, so you can move between them as contracts and quests lead you.

💡 Level 2–3 specializations should be coming together around this stage. Establish clear roles within the party.

Vertruse Province (Vertruse Province) Beginner–intermediate (Region-locked: levels 4–6)

A region with similar enemy levels to Arthes, so changing their order causes little trouble. Refine the early party while improving equipment and finances.

💡 With contracts available across two regions, aim to cover wages and food costs by this point to make the middle game easier.

Ludern Province (Ludern Province) Intermediate (Region-locked: around level 7)

A mid-game region with enemies around level 7. The hunt for the local beast drives its story, and inadequate preparation can sharply increase combat losses.

💡 Improve everyone’s levels and equipment and stock up on healing supplies and oils before taking on the hunt.

FAQ

Wartales FAQ

Q1 Does Wartales support Japanese? ▼
A

Steam does not list Japanese support for Wartales. Multiple interface and text languages are supported, including English. Use the companion, region, profession and combat guides alongside the language you play in.

Q2 What party composition should beginners start with? ▼
A

A balanced party such as two front-line fighters (for example, a Warrior and Swordsman), one ranged attacker (Archer), and one flexible slot (Spearman or Ranger) is approachable. The front line engages enemies while the back line deals damage. More companions increase food and wage costs, so stabilize a small troop’s finances before expanding.

Q3 How do I manage troop morale and happiness? ▼
A

Maintain happiness through meal quality, rest and paying wages. Cook meals and the Bard’s lute performances are standard management tools. Falling happiness can cause companions to leave, so monitor both food and cash flow.

Q4 What should I keep in mind for co-op? ▼
A

Co-op supports up to four players. Assign clear responsibilities for the front line, back line, indirect tactics and non-combat professions. A brief discussion of formation and turn order before battle helps prevent accidents.

Q5 What takes priority when managing camp? ▼
A

A practical order is (1) food supplies, consumed at each rest; (2) paying wages, since running out of money risks departures; (3) recovering fatigue, which reduces performance; and (4) maintaining happiness through meals, performances and treatment. Food or cash shortfalls can be hard to recover from, so aim for a surplus.

Q6 How do I upgrade equipment? ▼
A

A companion with the Blacksmith profession can craft weapons and armor at an anvil. Gather materials from ore veins with a Miner, logging points with a Woodcutter, and loot. Higher profession ranks broaden the equipment available, so appoint and train a crafting specialist early.

Q7 What is Renown? ▼
A

Renown represents the troop’s reputation and rises through completing contracts and other activities. Higher Renown expands the contracts and features available, broadening what the troop can do. Early on, complete contracts consistently to build money and reputation together.

Q8 Which difficulty should I choose? ▼
A

Wartales lets you select combat difficulty and exploration mode separately. Region-locked fixes enemy levels by region, while Adaptive scales them to your troop. For a first run, a modest combat difficulty and Adaptive exploration let you focus on learning with fewer level-gap obstacles.

Q9 What updates and DLC are on the 2026 roadmap? ▼
A

The 2026 roadmap lists (1) the paid Contract DLC Fires in the Capital, released in late April 2026 and set around restoring order in the troubled capital of Edoran; (2) a free community-request update in Q3 2026 with new battle maps, armor colors and quality-of-life improvements; and (3) the annual expansion in Q4 2026 with mounted units, a new region and new champions. Check the latest official announcements for the release status of each roadmap item.
