🌟 Beginner Party: Two Front-Line, One Ranged and One Flexible Slot

🛡️ Two front-line fighters: Warrior + Swordsman

Engage enemies to hold the line. Warrior offers broad specialization choices and works as a core member of many parties.

🏹 One ranged attacker: Archer

Damage the enemies held by the front line from a safe distance. Avoid engagement and retain a turn’s worth of space.

🗡️ One flexible slot: Spearman or Ranger

Choose Spearman for safe damage at spear reach, or Ranger to finish enemies with attacks from behind. Pick the style you prefer.

⚔️ All Eight Classes in Detail
Warrior Tier S Front line

A versatile axe-wielding front-line fighter. Handles individual enemies and groups, and fits into almost any party as a core class.

Skill highlights: Uses one-handed and two-handed axes. A wide choice of specializations allows offensive or defensive development.
Recruitment: Hire at inns and taverns across the regions; the available candidates are random.
Brute Tier A Front line

An area-damage dealer and tank who hits several enemies with blunt weapons such as two-handed maces.

Skill highlights: Excels at clearing groups with area-of-effect attacks and can withstand considerable damage.
Recruitment: Hire at inns and taverns across the regions; the available candidates are random.
Swordsman Tier A Front line

A balanced offensive and defensive class: fight defensively with sword and shield, or aggressively with a two-handed sword.

Skill highlights: Uses a one-handed sword and shield or a two-handed sword. Specialization can emphasize tanking or damage.
Recruitment: Hire at inns and taverns across the regions; the available candidates are random.
Spearman Tier B Front line

A mid-line fighter who uses spear reach to attack from outside engagement range.

Skill highlights: Can attack without standing adjacent and displace enemies with knockback. Specializations from level 3 bring out its strengths.
Recruitment: Hire at inns and taverns across the regions; the available candidates are random.
Ranger Tier B Front line

An assassin-style melee attacker who ambushes enemies with dagger backstabs and poison; this is not a bow class.

Skill highlights: Gains bonuses when attacking from behind. Highly mobile and good at applying poison, but light armor makes positioning after an ambush important.
Recruitment: Hire at inns and taverns across the regions; the available candidates are random.
Archer Tier B Back line

A dedicated ranged damage dealer with a bow. A useful source of back-line damage to include in the party.

Skill highlights: Deals damage safely at range but becomes much less effective if an enemy engages them.
Recruitment: Hire at inns and taverns across the regions; the available candidates are random.
Crossbowman Tier A Back line

A Dexterity-based ranged class that increases the impact of each shot by managing Loaded and Reload states.

Skill highlights: Crossbows have Loaded and Empty states. Passives can allow repeated reloads within one turn to strengthen attacks.
Recruitment: Hire at inns and taverns across the regions; added in the free December 2024 update.
Pugilist Tier S Front line

A fast, hard-hitting unarmed melee class with light armor, added by the Pirates of Belerion DLC.

Skill highlights: Uses speed and repeated attacks to inflict heavy damage on tough enemies. Fragile defenses make damage avoidance essential.
Recruitment: Unlocked by owning the Pirates of Belerion DLC.
❓ Frequently asked questions

What companion formation is best for beginners?

A balanced party of **two front-line fighters (for example, Warrior and Swordsman), one ranged attacker (Archer), and one flexible slot (Spearman or Ranger)** is approachable. Engage enemies with the front line while ranged characters attack safely. More companions increase food and wage costs, so stabilize a small troop’s finances before expanding.

How many classes are there?

The six base classes are **Warrior, Brute, Swordsman, Spearman, Ranger and Archer**. The free December 2024 update added the **Crossbowman**, and the paid Pirates of Belerion DLC added the **Pugilist**, giving eight classes in this guide’s scope.

How do Ranger and Archer differ?

Despite the name, **Ranger is not a bow class**. Rangers are melee assassins who use daggers for back attacks, poison and mobility. The bow-based ranged class is the **Archer**. Choose an Archer or Crossbowman when the party needs ranged damage.

Where can I recruit companions?

The main method is **hiring at inns and taverns**, with randomly available classes. You can also **capture weakened human enemies with Chains**, keep them as prisoners and sometimes recruit them after travelling together. Recruitment and upkeep both cost money, so expand within your budget.
