What to Do When You Open Evidence
Discovering evidence and using its contents are separate steps.
Scroll horizontally to read wide tables.
| Evidence | What to Check | Avoiding Oversights |
|---|---|---|
| Group photograph | Have you registered the usable faces? | Do not close a photograph after merely looking at it |
| Books / Journals | Are there more pages? | Do not draw conclusions from the first page alone |
| Advertisements | Differences in names and dates | Do not treat advertisements from different periods as identical |
| Articles | Family, occupations, and other works | Do not extract only the full names |
| Images Requiring Restoration | Does it need to be processed in PixPop? | Do not confuse an image that cannot be opened with a finished photograph |
| Lists | Known and uninvestigated entries | Separate names already investigated in your notes |

Titles and character names are identifiers used for in-game searches. This does not reproduce the original text or photographs.
Using a Photograph on the Family Tree
When you acquire new sources, check portrait registration as well as the text.
- Open the photograph in Evidence.
- Zoom in and select each person's face.
- Check that the portraits have been added to the family tree's selection.
- Do not decide from clothing alone; compare the photograph's date and family relationships too.
- If similar faces will not lock in, organize the evidence for each person before swapping candidate photographs.
Divide Your Notes into Four Categories
This is a way to organize your investigation, not a set of in-game unlock requirements.
Scroll horizontally to read wide tables.
| Note Category | What to Record |
|---|---|
| Confirmed | Names, occupations, and relationships confirmed by sources |
| Hypothesis | Unconfirmed matches between people |
| Next Search | Newly discovered names, titles, and organizations |
| Unchecked | Photographs, maiden names, remaining pages, and similar leads |

Keeping evidence separate from guesses makes contradictions easier to correct later.
Image Restoration Oversights
You will encounter images that use PixPop. Acquiring an image file does not necessarily make it usable as a portrait.
- Check the image's condition and the program required.
- After working on the restoration, reopen the completed evidence.
- Register portraits from it, then compare them with relationships described in articles.
This does not include the operating sequence for every image puzzle.
Frequently asked questions
Someone is in a photograph, but I cannot select their portrait
Open the photograph in Evidence and check whether you selected that person's face. Merely acquiring or looking at a photograph can leave its portraits unregistered.
I read the book, but still lack clues
Check whether it has multiple pages. Separate the author, title, and references to relatives, then investigate other search terms mentioned in the text.
