Collect equipment on each stage, charge the teleporter and move on. Stage 5 lets you choose between another loop and the moon, so check the destination before heading into the final fight without enough equipment.
What is Risk of Rain 2?
A 3D roguelite shooter in which you battle hordes of monsters to escape an unfamiliar planet. Its defining feature is that **time itself drives the difficulty**. As the on-screen timer advances, enemies become stronger and more numerous. Take your time collecting items and preparing, and the situation can spiral out of control. Meanwhile, stacking copies of items adds to their effects, potentially giving you absurd power that can clear the screen in a single hit late in a run. The pull between rushing and collecting is the core of the game. Play solo or in co-op with up to four players. The source's August 2026 Steam snapshot records over 350,000 reviews and a Very Positive rating. Japanese is supported.
Scope: Standard route in the PC base game, with DLC disabled. Based on the source check of October 4, 2026. Excludes DLC areas, Voidling, False Son and new Hallowed Concepts content.

Three Conditions for Finishing a Stage
Difficulty rises with time, so decide where to explore and move with a purpose. There is no universal rule that finishing within a certain number of minutes is always correct.
- On entering a stage, look for particles around the teleporter and its distinctive pillars. Avoid chasing enemies back and forth over the same ground.
- Use nearby chests and interactables to improve mobility, healing and damage. Some nearby interactables become unavailable after activation, so check anything you plan to use first.
- Activate the teleporter and deal with the boss and other enemies that appear. You must remain inside the red area to charge it, but leave temporarily to avoid a lethal attack.
- Normally, charging stops at 99% while the boss remains alive. Defeating the teleporter boss is also required to reach 100%.
- Confirm that charging is complete and the boss is defeated, then collect the reward. Decide whether to open any remaining chests or move to the next stage.
90% is not the normal point where charging stops. Distinguish between charging pausing outside the area and stopping at 99% while the boss remains alive.
Choose Items by Their Role
Expect random drops and cover the roles you lack. Do not treat DLC-only items as essential base-game equipment.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Role You Lack | Base-Game Examples | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| Mobility | Paul’s Goat Hoof、Energy Drink | Check the difference between walking and sprinting. Give yourself room to avoid attacks in the final fight |
| Sustained damage | Soldier’s Syringe、Tri-Tip Dagger | Judge the effect on a Survivor whose attack speed or hit frequency suits it |
| Clearing nearby enemies | Ukulele、Gasoline | An effect that clears groups may work differently against a single boss |
| Healing | Cautious Slug、Medkit | Conditional effects. These items do not provide endless healing while you keep taking hits |
| Making use of equipment | Fuel Cell | Check the equipment's own effect, charges and cooldown |
| Exchanging unwanted items | Scrapper and 3D Printer | Check the scrap color and exchange target before interacting. Avoid losing items you still need |
No rows in this table match. Shorten the search or clear it to restore every row.
Lunar items also have drawbacks. Do not take one without reading its effects just because it is rare. The way effects scale with stacks also differs by item.
Stage 5: Go to the Moon or Loop
Sky Meadow in the base game contains the Primordial Teleporter. Check its outer ring and destination message before activating the center.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Choice | Action and Result | When to Choose It |
|---|---|---|
| Go to the moon | Activate and complete the Primordial Teleporter while it is aligned with the moon | You have the damage, mobility and healing to face Mithrix |
| Continue looping | Interact with the outer ring before activation to align it with the planet | You want to gather more equipment or pursue later unlocks |
| Enter a different portal | Check any portal that appears before using it | Its destination differs from the central teleporter's route to the moon |
| Prevent an accidental choice | Treat interacting with the outer ring and activating the center as separate actions | Read the message before activation; do not try to change it during the fight |
No rows in this table match. Shorten the search or clear it to restore every row.
Reaching the Final Fight in Commencement
Reaching the moon does not complete the run. Make your way to the summit while staying prepared for the fight.
- Proceed from the entrance to the different areas and charge the required pillars. The charging areas and hazards vary, so watch your health as you enter each one.
- Once the required charging is complete, use the means of reaching the summit. Do not stay on the ground waiting for the boss to appear by itself.
- Mithrix has a phase that steals your items, so avoid relying entirely on items for movement and attacks. Check your Survivor's own escape abilities.
- Learn the route back before entering the fight. You will ultimately need to reach the rescue ship and complete the escape.
Mithrix's Four Phases and How to Respond
Use changes in appearance and behavior as cues instead of assuming attacks occur at fixed intervals.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Phase | Change | Response |
|---|---|---|
| Phase 1 | Fight Mithrix himself as he uses hammer and needle attacks | Keep your distance and move away from the hammer's landing point after his dash. Strafe out of the needles' line of fire |
| Phase 2 | Mithrix withdraws and you fight Lunar Chimeras | Defeat all airborne and ground enemies. Do not fix your attention on the ground enemies alone |
| Phase 3 | Mithrix returns with stronger hammer and wide-area attacks | Watch for gaps in the rotating attack and move through them. Do not assume its reach is as narrow as in the earlier fight |
| Phase 4 | He steals the player's items | Do not charge in expecting the strength you had before the theft. Keep your distance and attack to recover your items |
No rows in this table match. Shorten the search or clear it to restore every row.
Certain equipment or very high damage can skip phases, but a standard beginner approach should not depend on doing so.
Escaping After the Fight and Identifying Why You Failed
Check defeating Mithrix and completing the escape separately. The escape is required to win the run.
- After defeating Mithrix, use the exits that appear to return from the arena. Do not remain there waiting for a victory sequence.
- Head to the rescue ship within the time limit. Prioritize the escape route over detours to find remaining interactables.
- Stay in the ship's area to charge it, avoiding enemy attacks until you complete the escape. Simply touching the ship does not finish the run.
- If you fail, identify whether the problem was insufficient exploration, poor preparation for the moon, the boss's fourth phase or losing your way back. Choose one objective for the next run.
