| Chapter | Main opponent | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Hooktail | Collect and equip the badge matching its weakness inside the castle. |
| 2 | Magnus von Grapple | Treat the body and rocket fists as separate targets. |
| 3 | Rawk Hawk / Macho Grubba | The champion match and battle after investigating the Glitz Pit are separate. |
| 4 | Doopliss | The first steeple fight is not the end. Investigate the name and fight again. |
| 5 | Cortez / Lord Crump | Cortez changes forms. Prepare for a separate deck battle, too. |
| 6 | Smorg | Deal with tentacles before targeting the body. |
| 7 | Magnus von Grapple 2.0 | Distinguish the body and X-Punch attack targets. |

Hooktail: Exploit the Weakness and Refuse the Offers

| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| Initial stats | 20 HP / 5 Attack / 1 Defense. Actual damage varies with attack type and after weakening. |
| Preparation | Obtain and equip the Pikkyoron A sound-effect badge in Hooktail Castle to produce its sound. |
| Attack | Weaken attack and defense with the sound, then choose jumps or available moves. |
| After first depleting HP | Refuse offers such as coins or badges. It eats audience members, restores 10 HP, and continues fighting. |
| After resuming | With no audience left, do not rely solely on audience-supplied Star Power for healing. Keep items, too. |

Gonbaba, called Hooktail in English, is separate from the Shadow Queen. Also note that the English GameCube and Switch versions differ in its weakness sound and the badge's English name.
Preparation Before Bosses
- Save, heal, and check partner HP, too.
- Use Goombella's Tattle on unfamiliar enemies and compare displayed information with actual attack targets.
- Choose jumps, hammer, and partner moves to suit ground, airborne, spiked, and other states.
- If you cannot defeat an enemy in one hit, retain enough HP/FP to survive until its next action.
The Pit of 100 Trials Is a Separate Endurance Challenge
Separate from main-game chapter count, this combat-focused dungeon reaches 100 floors underground. Before descending as casually as an ordinary dungeon, prepare healing, status responses, and moves reaching multiple enemies.
- Leave room to switch to Goombella for unregistered enemies.
- Avoid spending all FP every battle; distinguish enemies manageable with normal attacks from those needing stronger moves.
- At each interval, judge whether your state warrants returning rather than continuing exploration.
Distinguish Character and Boss Names
Hooktail Castle's enemy and the late-story Shadow Queen are separate. Also do not treat Chapter 3's boss and Chapter 4's Doopliss as the same person. Old incorrect mappings and unconfirmed HP/weakness tables have been removed from the current guide.
Frequently asked questions
My partner's attacks do not reach.
Check the move's height and targets. Moves intended for ground enemies cannot necessarily hit every airborne foe.
Is the Pit of 100 Trials the main game's final chapter?
It is a separate challenge. The main game continues through Chapter 8; prepare for the Pit of 100 Trials independently.
