Pacific Drive (2024, PC / PS5)
💡 Tips and beginner guide
Tips organized by maintenance, hazards, fuel, material collection and quirk diagnosis. Check the wagon and the route before extending an excursion.
Inspect the whole wagon each time you return
Damage can leave the wagon unreliable on the next trip. At the garage, inspect the hood, doors, panels, tires and engine, then repair or replace damaged parts before departing. A complete pre-trip check is a useful routine even after an apparently easy excursion.
Pack the repair items your wagon may need
Different faults require different repair items. Check your installed parts and carry suitable supplies rather than assuming one tool repairs everything. Keep enough storage space for repairs, particularly when planning a longer route with several hazards.
Choose tires for the terrain
Roads and rough ground call for different handling choices. Before entering a junction, check the terrain and the tires you have available. Carrying a suitable spare helps when a tire is damaged; do not assume one tire prevents every surface hazard.
Stop somewhere safe and observe an unfamiliar anomaly
Anomalies differ in their reach and effects. When you encounter one for the first time, observe its light, motion and affected area from a safe place before choosing a route. Driving straight into an unfamiliar effect can badly damage the wagon.
Prepare the return route before a storm closes in
Storms limit the time available for safe collection. Do not sacrifice a viable return for one more stop. Check anchor energy, a reachable gateway and the route to it before activating the return; continue toward safety rather than treating the gateway activation as an instant escape.
Diagnose quirks rather than trying to improve a mood meter
When the wagon behaves strangely, note four things: the part involved, the triggering action, the affected part and the resulting behavior. Use those observations at the Tinker Station. Repair ordinary damage separately. A hidden happiness statistic improved by cleaning or honking is not established.
Leave with sufficient fuel and a reserve
Check fuel before departing, then consider the distance and stops on the planned route. Refill or collect fuel where available before the reserve becomes critical. Keep enough range to reach the gateway; do not wait until the tank is nearly empty to plan the return.
Collect materials in priority order
Materials compete for limited storage. Before leaving, identify what the next upgrade actually needs and prioritize those supplies. A trip without a specific objective can leave several recipes unfinished even after the trunk is full.
Expand through the Zone gradually
Progress from the Outer Zone through the Mid-Zone toward the Deep Zone as the story and route unlocks allow. Resources and hazards differ across the Zone. Prepare suitable equipment and study junction information rather than treating the Outer Zone as the final or highest-altitude area.
Treat a failed excursion as a lesson
A failed trip can return you to the garage but may cost carried supplies. Review which hazard stopped you, which part failed and which repair or route choice was missing. Use that information to improve the next trip rather than assuming every collected resource is kept.
Keep the garage organized
Keep stored materials and repair supplies easy to find, and learn where the work areas are. An orderly routine makes post-trip inspection and crafting quicker. This does not assume every garage fixture can be freely repositioned.
▶ Which upgrades should I prioritize first?
First inspect the tires, panels and engine and prepare fuel and appropriate repairs. Then select unlocked equipment for the next route. Increase storage when useful and improve the engine when the wagon is reliable. A separate Weather Radio upgrade is not required by this guide.
▶ How can I avoid a storm?
Watch route and in-world warnings and head for a gateway while the route remains viable. Plan the ARC energy and the drive to the gateway before committing. Anchors supply energy; they do not make it safe to park through the storm.
▶ What do unusual wagon behaviors mean?
The wagon can develop quirks linking an action to an unexpected response. Record the cause and effect and diagnose them at the Tinker Station. This is separate from ordinary part damage and does not establish a happiness, trust, anxiety or anger meter.
▶ How long does it take to finish?
Time varies with exploration, repairs and retries. The earlier estimates of 20–30 hours for the story and 40–60 hours for more exploration are unverified planning estimates, not measured completion data or guarantees. A failed trip can also cost carried materials.
▶ Does it support Japanese?
The Steam listing supports Japanese interface text and subtitles, with English audio. PC and PS5 versions are available. Check the relevant regional store for the current price; the older ¥4,300 figure is not a current price guarantee.
