Car upgrades Guide
Plan a wagon that survives the route ahead. Compare early, middle and later priorities, check recipes in your game and choose a balance of protection, storage and mobility.
Upgrade planning by stage
Surviving the first trips matters most. Prepare for storms, keep the wagon serviceable and gather materials to unlock garage crafting facilities.
Offroad Tire (Offroad Tire)
Requires a Basic Workbench and researched Gear. Favors traction on rough ground over paved roads; check tire protection separately from traction.
Turbolight Engine (Turbolight Engine)
Requires an Advanced Workbench, installed Scanning Antenna and researched Steel Sheet. Compare power and fuel consumption, and close the hood before driving.
All-Terrain Tire (All-Terrain Tire)
Requires an Advanced Workbench and researched Carbonfiberglass. Balances the three listed surfaces for routes with mixed terrain.
Side Storage (Side Storage)
Requires a Basic Workbench, installed Scanning Antenna and unlocked Side Rack. Fit supplies into the actual compartments rather than assuming a 50% capacity bonus. Consider the shape of spares and repair items.
Repair Putty (Repair Putty)
A Tier 1 workbench repair item. Stop safely and use it on the part you want to repair. It does not cure every special fault or repair the wagon while you keep steering.
Backseat Tank (Backseat Tank)
Requires a Basic Workbench, unlocked Seat Rack and researched Steel Sheet. Fills and drains as part of the fuel system. Extra capacity is distinct from reducing consumption.
Once the basics are reliable, choose upgrades that support longer journeys. Balance visibility, navigation and speed rather than improving one in isolation.
Nitro Boost (Nitro Boost)
Effect: Boosts opposite the bumper on which it is mounted and consumes battery power.
Requires an Advanced Workbench and researched Circuit Board. Rear mounting pushes forward; front mounting pushes backward. Test the mounting direction and control safely before relying on it to escape.
Armored Panel (Armored Panel)
Effect: 55 health, 20% impact resistance and 10% explosive resistance.
Requires a Basic Workbench, a Belching Barnacle scan and researched Steel Sheet. Protects the fitted part rather than adding a universal 30% to total vehicle health. Blueprint research and crafting use separate requirements.
Reinforced Headlight (Reinforced Headlight)
Effect: 60 health, 50% impact resistance and a 24 m light range.
Requires an Advanced Workbench, a Tour Bus scan and researched Bulb. A durable light, not a universal 60% increase over every other light. Keep its battery demand in mind.
Resource Radar (Resource Radar)
Effect: A Roof Rack pulse that temporarily marks compatible targets within 250 m.
Requires a Basic Workbench, unlocked Roof Rack and researched Circuit Board. Markers last 20 seconds or until you approach within 15 m; the cooldown is 10 seconds. A marked target is not necessarily lootable.
Roof Floodlights (Roof Floodlights)
Effect: 28 m range and 1,200 cd brightness; uses a Roof Rack.
Requires an Advanced Workbench, unlocked Roof Rack and researched Bulb. The rack position determines the direction. Toggle the assigned ability and allow for continuous battery use.
LIM Shield (LIM Shield)
Effect: An activated protective ability with battery costs on activation, while active and on hits.
The blueprint comes through The Deep Zone Crossing progression. Helps against attaching anomalies such as Abductors and physical damage. From v1.11, account for continuous drain while active. This is not an anchor that fixes the wagon to the ground.
Anticorrosive Panel (Anticorrosive Panel)
Effect: 60 health and 25% acid resistance.
Requires a Basic Workbench, a Moldy Balloon scan and researched Carbonfiberglass. A panel for acid hazards; resistance is not a reason to remain in acid. Inspect its condition after returning.
More demanding routes call for appropriate protection and equipment. Check the actual unlock requirements and materials before leaving; this is not a claim that one fixed set is required to reach every late area.
Side Fuel Tank (Side Fuel Tank)
Effect: Additional fuel capacity of 15, using a Side Rack.
Requires a Basic Workbench, unlocked Side Rack and researched Steel Sheet. Filling the wagon through its fuel cap also fills this tank. It adds capacity rather than a fixed fuel-efficiency bonus.
The Auto Parker (The Auto Parker)
Effect: Applies the parking brake when you get out and releases it when you get in; uses a Seat Rack.
Requires a Basic Workbench, unlocked Seat Rack and researched Gear. Helps when parking to scavenge; allow room in the Seat Rack when choosing other utilities.
Insulated Panel (Insulated Panel)
Effect: 60 health, 25% electrical resistance and protection against Charged.
Requires a Basic Workbench, scans of two electrical anomalies and researched Steel Sheet. Prepares a part for electrical hazards; it does not provide a universal 50% EMP reduction or immunity.

Frequently asked questions
What should I upgrade first in Pacific Drive?
First make sure the wagon can complete a trip: inspect the tires and panels, prepare repair supplies and check fuel. Then choose unlocked parts for the terrain and hazards ahead. Storm warnings come from the route and in-world information available to you; a separate Weather Radio upgrade is not verified here.
When should I add more cargo storage?
Additional storage becomes valuable once materials regularly fill the space you have. Check the storage option and mounting prerequisites actually unlocked at your Fabrication Station. Do not assume every cargo upgrade adds exactly 50%. Put reliable driving and repairs ahead of carrying more than you can bring home safely.
Should I upgrade the engine or the body first?
Early on, prioritize reliable tires, working panels and repairs. Later, consider an engine that suits your route and fuel supply. More speed only helps when the wagon remains controllable and you have a viable way home. The order is a planning suggestion, not a compulsory unlock sequence.
Do I need acid protection?
Check the route conditions before entering an acid-heavy area and fit protective parts you have actually unlocked. Anticorrosive Panel and Anticorrosive Door are different from a coating with a universal effect. Check the required materials and protection values in the in-game blueprint and part display.
