Noita: Reading and Rebuilding Wands

Sources checked and text revised: October 3, 2026. An introduction to following basic wand setups.

Start with a non-shuffle, Spells/Cast 1 wand and a few spells, until you can explain what it reads from the left. Modifiers and multicasts read additional spells, so combinations work even with Spells/Cast 1.

An introduction to wand editing in standard PC mode. Mod- or beta-specific behavior and individual spell rankings are outside the scope.

Compare Eight Wand Properties

DisplayMeaningWhen assessing it
ShuffleWhether the spell sequence is reordered. Non-shuffle generally progresses from left to right.Practice order-dependent setups with a No wand. Still watch for spells that read additional cards.
Spells/CastThe number initially read by the wand for one cast, not the total projectiles appearing on screen.Practice at 1 first. Modifiers and multicasts read further spells, so several cards can operate even at 1.
Cast delayContributes to the wait before the next cast. Installed spells' adjustments also affect it.Do not infer firing speed from the wand's value alone; compare using the same spell setup.
Recharge timeContributes to the wait after the spell sequence ends and before it starts again. If the wand pauses for a long time only after several shots, check this value and spell adjustments.
Mana maxHow much mana can be stored. Compare it with the total cost of one cast's spells.Include modifiers and multicasts, not just projectiles. Waiting for regeneration alone cannot fix insufficient maximum mana.
Mana chg. SpdHow quickly mana returns over time. Determines whether sustained firing is possible. If you can fire several shots but continuous fire breaks down, check whether regeneration keeps up with ongoing consumption.
CapacityThe number of slots available for ordinary spells.A large capacity does not mean every slot needs filling. Start with a short sequence you can follow, then expand it.
SpreadAffects variation in projectile trajectories. Spell adjustments also contribute.Compare using the same projectile. Do not infer accuracy or power from the sign alone.

Seven Steps for Rebuilding in Holy Mountain

  1. Open the inventory inside Holy Mountain and confirm editing is enabled. Normally, this is where you rearrange wands and spells. Editing elsewhere requires another condition, such as the relevant perk.
  2. For practice, choose non-shuffle, Spells/Cast 1, and no Always Cast. Always Cast adds spell activity outside the editable slots and complicates comparison with the basic examples.
  3. Remove explosive or self-damaging spells from the practice wand and use one simple projectile. Holy Mountain is not safe for firing every kind of spell.
  4. With mana restored, fire once. After adding a second projectile, check each click and where the spell sequence ends.
  5. Place one modifier to the left of a projectile. Compare its effect and mana cost, then add a multicast after confirming the result.
  6. As the cast grows, write out which cards this cast will read, as in the next table. Change only one position at a time.
  7. Finally, fire continuously and distinguish short intervals, reloading the spell sequence, and mana depletion. One successful shot does not prove sustained fire is possible.

Four Processing Examples Starting at Spells/Cast 1

1. Place Only Two Projectile Cards

The following four examples assume non-shuffle, Spells/Cast 1, no Always Cast, and sufficient mana.

Example spell-slot reading order: Slot 1: Spark Bolt → Slot 2: Spark Bolt

With Spells/Cast 1, this basic example reads the left projectile first, the right projectile on the next cast, then proceeds to recharge.

2. Pair a Modifier with a Projectile

A modifier alone does not necessarily create a projectile. Pair it with a projectile first.

Example spell-slot reading order: Slot 1: Modifier → Slot 2: Spark Bolt

The modifier also reads the next spell and applies its effect to the projectile in the same cast. The wand does not need Spells/Cast 2.

3. Fire Two Projectiles Together

Multicast cards also consume card reads and mana. Their function is separate from the wand's Spells/Cast value.

Example spell-slot reading order: Slot 1: Double Spell → Slot 2: Spark Bolt → Slot 3: Spark Bolt

The multicast reads the next two cards, producing two projectiles from one cast.

4. Apply a Modifier to a Multicast

Setups involving triggers, timers, spell reuse, or wrapping are outside these introductory examples.

Example spell-slot reading order: Slot 1: Modifier → Slot 2: Double Spell → Slot 3: Spark Bolt → Slot 4: Spark Bolt

In the basic example, the modifier affects both projectiles in the same cast. Do not assume the same treatment applies to projectiles from another click or inside a trigger.

Distinguish Why Shots Fail or Stop

Another projectile fires before the intended one

Check: Shuffle, cards to the left, Spells/Cast, and the range of cards read by a multicast.

Next action: Return to a basic non-shuffle setup, remove extra cards, and add them back one at a time.

A modifier is installed but no projectile appears

Check: Whether a projectile follows the modifier, and whether there is enough mana for the whole group.

Next action: Reduce to one modifier and one projectile. Do not discard the wand just because it has Spells/Cast 1.

The full setup cannot fire even initially

Check: Maximum mana, each card's cost, and remaining uses for limited-use spells.

Next action: Reduce modifiers first. Cards skipped for insufficient mana can also disrupt the intended reading order.

Fewer projectiles appear after several rapid shots

Check: Mana regeneration and sustained consumption during continuous firing.

Next action: Check whether waiting between shots restores the output, then lower consumption or transfer the setup to a faster-regenerating wand.

A long pause at the end of the projectile sequence

Check: Recharge time and the timing adjustments of installed spells.

Next action: Compare with a short sequence of identical projectiles. Reducing cast delay alone does not necessarily remove every wait.

You cannot edit the wand

Check: Whether Holy Mountain editing is enabled, or the editing-perk conditions if outside.

Next action: Separate this from spell-combination issues. If editing is unavailable outside, make changes at the next location where editing is possible.

A Calculation Separating Capacity from Regeneration

Hypothetical comparison: a setup costing 40 mana per cast, used an average of 2 times per second, consumes 80 mana per second. At 50 mana regenerated per second, stored mana falls by the difference of 30. These are not real spell values or frame-by-frame firing results. Increasing maximum mana does not improve this average balance itself.

Wand Editing FAQ

Can modifiers work with Spells/Cast 1?

Yes. Basic modifiers additionally read the following spell, bringing the modifier and projectile into the same cast even when the wand displays 1. Check the required mana and reading order separately.

Should I always discard shuffle wands?

No. They can fire straightforward projectiles too. Non-shuffle is better for practicing order-dependent setups, however. Shuffle reorders the spell sequence; do not think of it as independently drawing the same single card at random on every click.

Does filling every slot make a wand stronger?

Slot count alone does not decide strength. Unnecessary cards change reading order, consumption, and waits. Complete a short setup first and check what changes when you add something.

Why does continuous fire stop despite high maximum mana?

Storage and regeneration speed are separate. If sustained consumption exceeds regeneration, even a large reserve eventually dwindles. Compare the mana needed for one shot separately from the balance during continuous fire.

Is firing anything safe in Holy Mountain?

Being able to edit a wand does not mean test shots are harmless. Do not use explosive, self-damaging, or terrain-destroying setups for introductory tests. Read unfamiliar cards' descriptions first.

Do the eight properties explain everything about a wand?

These eight properties are for initial comparison. They do not cover Always Cast, hidden values, or all spell-specific behavior. For setups beyond the basic examples, consult the pending items in the scope section.

Edition and Unverified Areas

Official announcements were checked through Epilogue 2 (April 2024) and the January 25, 2025 fix announcement. This does not verify a current local binary or the latest version on every platform. No hands-on gameplay testing was performed.

  • Hidden speed multipliers, wand length, individual Always Cast examples, detailed adjustments inside and outside triggers, and spell wrapping require separate verification.
  • Current damage values, appearance rates, strongest setups for individual spells, and mod/beta differences are not covered.
