Katana ZERO unlocks and missables: deadlines, pickups and revisits
Hidden content organized by prerequisites, deadlines, actions, success checks and revisits. Source disagreements about dialogue requirements are noted; specific places and choices stay in collapsed sections.
Edition: Katana ZERO PC Steam normal story, app 460950, Windows. Hard Mode, Speedrun, Katana HERO, additional story DLC and console inputs are not mixed into the normal route.
Verification scope: Public sources checked on 2026-10-04. The game was not launched and the current build is unconfirmed. Standard PC inputs follow agreement between several sources; use your own changed bindings. Japanese dialogue in the source is a paraphrase of its meaning.

Three checks before redoing a requirement
Distinguish an object in one room, a stage-wide requirement and a condition spanning several conversations. Places, names and choices are in the collapsed sections below.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Requirement scope | Revisit approach | Check before finishing |
|---|---|---|
| One specific room | Select the corresponding tape and reach that scene | Did you pick up or inspect the object? |
| Whole tape | Maintain the mission order or undetected requirement from the beginning | Did you break the requirement along the way? |
| Several conversations | Proceed chronologically from the related tapes or therapy sessions | Did you finish the final conversation? |

Open only the sections you need. The shortest procedure for quitting immediately before important dialogue is saved has not been tested in-game; the conservative steps finish the conversation or relevant tape.

Distinguish hidden keys from using weapons
The five hidden keys, one government-lab keycard and Studio 51's three colored progress cards are different items. Collecting keys does not automatically replace the sword during the story.
- After the late-story therapy session, inspect the psychiatrist's body and take the New Mecca Government Keycard.
- After finishing the story, choose Govt. Lab in tape selection. Inspect the red-X terminal at the entrance to enter.
- Use each corresponding hidden key to choose a weapon in the five display sections. Collect the key for the sword you want.
Defeating the hidden boss is not required for the government keycard. Nor does the guide say all five keys are needed to enter the lab. No basis was confirmed for treating the closed rear-right door as an unlock puzzle in the current story.

Five hidden keys: entry, deadlines and collection
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Scope | Prerequisite / deadline / location | Required action | Success check | Revisit / recovery |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Prism Key | Factory's initial controllable position | Before going right, reach the upper-left roof. Combine a jump with an upward or upper-left slash, then inspect the corpse at the far left | Check the key pickup message | Revisit Factory's opening; restart if you passed it |
| Master Key | Before entering Hotel's final balcony | Save a bust or knife. Open only the door and throw from indoors at Josh Rose, killing him before he jumps. Inspect the body | The corpse remains and the key is available | If the throw was late, revisit Hotel. The deadline is before approaching and starting the conversation |
| Prototype Key | The whole Prison mission and immediately after returning home | Under the normal no-kill order, escape without killing any police. If refusing the drug produced an elimination order, kill them all. On returning home, inspect the open case in the apartment corridor | Pick up the key in the case | If you broke the order, restart Prison. Finishing alone does not automatically award it |
| Phoenix Key | Mansion's three-level room with the thief | Do not open the upper-left small room; defeat ordinary enemies first. Wait for the thief to leave through the window, inspect the bag or box left behind and head for the exit immediately | Pick up the key left in the room | Revisit Mansion. Do not make the thief flee by entering or attacking early. Watch the time limit after waiting |
| Savant Key | Three surveillance points in Slaughterhouse | Advance without activating any camera and inspect the desk or control panel in the underground explosives store. Detailed traversal checks follow below | The key is in the storage room | Retry the room immediately after detection. If you continued and saved in the next area, restarting from the opening is safer |

Some sources use incorrect stage numbers, so names are the baseline. For Prison's two variants, check the actual order displayed first. Save details such as whether keys remain without being consumed have not been tested.

Checks for the undetected pickup route
The Savant Key route reaches the last storage room without activating three TV-camera points. Attempt it separately from the normal progress route through the tests.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Landmark | First action | How to pass | Failure cue |
|---|---|---|---|
| First TV room | Lure enemies into the left passage and defeat them outside camera view | Dodge directly beneath the ceiling camera and continue without activating footage | Corpses may also be seen by surveillance. Reset if the TV lights up |
| Conveyor and four cameras | Choose a position that lets you land on the small central platform | Dodge into the center, then dodge right on the next action | Do not try to cross both in one long movement |
| The following two cameras | Aim the dodge endpoint at the narrow gap between them | Pause in the middle, then dodge right | Footage or a closing gate means you are no longer undetected |
| Final breakable floor | Slash the floor and drop below | Inspect the desk or control panel in the explosives store | Sources differ on left/right placement, so use explosives and the desk as landmarks |

Sources also describe cutting the first wire, but the guide does not claim that alone satisfies all three surveillance points. After detection followed by moving into the next area, the conservative approach restarts the tape from the beginning.

Differences between retrieved weapons
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Weapon | Corresponding key | Checked characteristics | Usage caution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prism Sword | Prism Key | Changes slash and blood-color effects | Do not rank it as an upgrade to basic performance |
| Sword of Masters | Master Key | Fires a ranged projectile when charged | Use projectile charging separately from ordinary slashes |
| Claymore Prototype | Prototype Key | Wide attack range and a slow swing | Do not use your usual rapid-attack interval. It is not described as unconditionally piercing shields |
| Phoenix Edge | Phoenix Key | Flames appear in the slashed direction | Consider effects on flammable objects as well as enemies |
| Savant Knife | Savant Key | Short reach and fast successive attacks | Swinging from your usual sword distance may miss |

Range, damage and recovery values have not been measured in the target version. Rather than ranking the strongest weapon, the guide explains how the selected weapon changes spacing. Application to the tape controlling Dragon is separate.

Dialogue-unlocked special encounter: chronological steps
This is the conservative reproduction route described in sources for the hidden psychiatrist boss. In-game testing has not established that every item is minimally required. Japanese choices in the source are paraphrases, not verbatim screen quotations.
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Time / location | Action to choose | Change to confirm | Caution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Phone at the beginning of Factory | Repeatedly choose the red hang-up response, anger the caller, then answer | Eventually take the call and finish Factory | Do not merely hang up and quit the tape midway |
| Therapy after Factory and before Hotel | Interrupt and keep choosing red responses demanding the drug | Finish therapy and proceed to the mission | This does not mean choosing every red response at every later session |
| Hotel | On the conservative route, interrupt and anger the receptionist, then kill police at the end | Continue to the next therapy session | Some accounts say the receptionist interaction is unnecessary. It is not asserted as mandatory |
| Therapy after Hotel and before Club | Interrupt again and demand the drug | Finish the entire therapy session | Do not confuse this session with the next drug-refusal session |
| Conversation in front of Club's DJ | Hang up the phone. Hear the DJ's discussion of the drug to the end without interrupting | Continue until the DJ is shot | Choosing red killing or interruption responses first prevents hearing the needed discussion |
| Therapy after Club and before Prison | Ask questions and report the DJ's drug discussion. Ask about the relation between the ability and drug, then continue refusing the dose | Continue to the mission after refusing the drug | Do not repeatedly choose red drug demands. Read necessary white choices too |
| Prison | Complete the order to kill all police | Continue until returning home | This is not the same route as the no-kill mission |
| Therapy after Mansion and before Chinatown | Choose insults and continue the conversation after the hallucination. Also choose the insult at the end of the Dragon discussion | Finish the full therapy session | Do not leave just because the hallucination ended |
| Therapy before Bunker | Check the conversation in its hostile state | A response expressing disappointment that you are still alive is a cue | Do not treat that one line as the sole flag check |
| Final therapy after Bunker Part 2 | Advance the hostile conversation | Instead of ending with the normal beating, the doctor uses a drug and starts combat | This clearly confirms that the special encounter has started |

Several sources describe revisiting the relevant tapes and therapy sessions, rather than requiring New Game. Because the minimum required flag set and which steps can be skipped remain uncertain, this route completes the relevant scenes chronologically.

When the special encounter does not appear / main combat responses
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Symptom / phase | Landmark | Check / response | Retry |
|---|---|---|---|
| The drug-refusal choice does not appear | Therapy after Club | Check whether you heard the DJ's drug discussion to the end and revisit from Club | Repeatedly selecting therapy alone does not change the prerequisite |
| The normal therapy ending occurs | Late-story therapy | Check the hang-ups, two drug demands, refusal, Prison elimination and last insult in pre-Chinatown therapy in order | Finish the relevant conversations before the final therapy session |
| Phase 1 | Hands extending from portals on both sides | Slash the tips of extending hands rather than chasing the body | Slashing one side does not stop the other |
| Phase 2 | Clone placement and energy projectiles | Choose a manageable projectile and reflect it toward a clone. Dodge dangerous rows to create another opportunity | Do not try to reflect everything consecutively |
| Phase 3 | Eyes appearing on screen | Keep track through splits, colors and vertical inversion, and slash remaining eyes | Find the rest before time runs out |
| Final phase | Needles, tail, brain-like enemies and the main head | Avoid needles and the tail, reduce the remaining small enemies, slash the head when it appears and move away from projectile rings | Do not stay in the same place after attacking |

These are normal-difficulty essentials. Hard Mode additions, complete projectile-layout diagrams and invincibility frames have not been tested.

Separate extra modes and achievements from the story
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Scope | Prerequisite / requirement | Check / redo | Caution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hard Mode | After finishing the story; added in the official update on 2019-05-30 | Choose it in the Speedrun menu. Confirm layouts differ from the normal story | Bosses change too. Do not copy the article's normal steps |
| Speedrun Mode | Added in the official update on the same day | Check options for starting point, scene skipping and enemy behavior | Official guidance says it autosaves; it is not described as requiring one uninterrupted run |
| Beatdown | Win against V in Studio 51 | If you progressed through the normal defeat, revisit the same tape and win | Required hit count omitted because sources disagree |
| The End | Choose death at the end of Chinatown | To continue again, revisit Chinatown and choose life | A separate ending from completing the normal story |
| Katana HERO | Separate PC/Mac Steam beta announced on 2023-04-01 | Separate English-only content; not treated as the normal story or DLC | Changes to settings or effects on saves are not recommended here without testing |

The checked official announcement of 2025-04-14 said additional story DLC remained in development and was planned to be free, with no release date given. No extra playable tapes or unlocking method for the rear of the laboratory are invented.
Handling source disagreements
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Comparison | Policy used | Scope kept pending |
|---|---|---|
| Progress on revisits | Match tape name, conversation timing and scene landmarks | Do not assert a location using unofficial room numbers alone |
| Requirements across multiple scenes | Distinguish a reproduction route from minimum necessary requirements | The complete set of conversations that can be skipped remains uncertain |
| Weapon performance | Explain checked traits and control differences | Exact current-build values and strongest-weapon rankings |
| Updates and releases | Distinguish officially released content from development announcements | Unconfirmed DLC release or additional stages |

Relationships between reproduced guide sources are also checked. The same author's article appearing on another site is not counted as multiple independent verifications.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a new save after missing something?
Some items can be retried by revisiting tapes or therapy sessions. Check whether the requirement covers one room, a whole tape or several conversations, then choose a starting point from its section.
I found the target, but it does not count as acquired
Some targets require approaching and inspecting them, not merely passing by or clearing the stage. Check the pickup message and the item's success check.
Will interrupting every conversation satisfy the requirement?
Not universally. Some conversations must be heard to the end; others switch to a different choice type partway through. For hidden requirements, follow the collapsed chronological steps.
Is this a list of every achievement?
It is not a complete unlock table for all achievements. It covers checked hidden pickups, special encounters, extra modes and some related achievements. Unconfirmed requirements or releases are not added to promise full completion.
