FAR: Changing Tides Ship Controls | Sail Angle, Cooling, Diving, and Winch

Released: Steam main game · Updated 2026-10-13

Classifies the roles of sails, engine, ballast, and winch. Spraying water at the wrong target extinguishes the furnace instead of cooling the engine.

Sails have three steps: mast, rope, angle

Press the blue button to raise the mast, then connect the upper rope to the fastening at the ship's rear. Adjust the angle lever to catch wind until the flag beside the mast rises into the blue zone. Under bridges, disconnect the rope and lower the mast, too.

Steam: fuel, furnace button, bellows

Put fuel in the furnace, press the button above, then jump onto the bellows. Distinguish left, center stop, and right on the direction lever. When heat rises, set the hose to pump water and cool the engine, avoiding the furnace.

Adjust water quantity with the hose to match depth

After obtaining diving capability, connect the hose to the ballast's blue pipe. Pumping water in sinks the ship; suction makes it rise. If you hit underwater beams or slopes, adjust water quantity to align the ship's height before continuing propulsion.

Carry the hook and swim to the target

Lower the stern winch, take its hook, and attach it to a capsule or blue fastening. Return aboard and winch it up. Some recovered capsules reveal another passage beneath them, so do not stop at salvaging the cargo.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Q1 The sail is raised, but I am slow ▼
A

Use the angle lever to move the flag into the blue zone. In a storm with a headwind, lower the sail and switch to steam.

Q2 The ship's fire keeps going out ▼
A

Check whether the cooling hose is pointed at the furnace. The engine is what needs cooling.
