Backpack Battles / Patch 1.1.9

Backpack Battles Synergies: Placement, Resources and Crafting

Matching tags alone does not complete a synergy. Follow the whole chain: what the supplier produces, when the consumer uses it and where each item must sit.

🔄 Last checked 2026-10-03 🏷️ Version Official Patch 1.1.9 (announced 2026-09-15) 🎮 PC (Steam)

✍️ We checked the official 1.1.9 announcement and crafting change history, then cross-checked eight selected recipes against independent material. Also check the descriptions in the version you are running.

The four layers of synergy

  • Position: Is the item inside the area marked by its bag, stars or arrows?
  • Timing: Do activation intervals and acceleration effects work together?
  • Resources: Can you supply Mana, Luck, Flame, Charge and other required resources?
  • Conversion: Can stored resources become damage, defense or healing?

When changing your layout

  • Crafting may change an item’s shape, so review the entire layout afterward.
  • Place new bags according to the slots affected by their unique effects as well as the space they add.
  • Before fighting, follow each star marker to check that important activations still have valid targets.

Crafting basics

Completing a recipePlace the specified ingredients adjacent and fight one round. They become the crafted result on entering the next shop.
Reading the indicatorsLines appear light blue while selected and yellow for a valid arrangement. Check the recipe and ingredients rather than judging by the lines alone.
Crafting lockRight-click to lock an item if you do not want it to craft despite adjacency. You can change this during and after combat too.
Effects before craftingIngredient effects triggered on entering the shop resolve before crafting.

Checks before a fight

Sale valueItems normally sell for half the purchase price, rounded up. Items bought at half price sell for their purchase price, so you can use them as temporary holdings when needed.
StaminaCheck stamina and light/heavy status at the lower left. After adding weapons, check whether they actually keep activating through the fight rather than looking only at attack speed.
Combat logHover over a weapon to check its attack power after buffs and its synergy effects. Fix just one cause of an inactive item in your next shopping phase.
Status effectsArrange suppliers and consumers for Luck, Regeneration, Spikes, Vampirism, Mana, Heat and Empower, as well as Poison, Blind and Freeze.

Eight selected recipes: ingredient counts and branches

These eight recipes illustrate crafting starting points and branches. A recipe relationship does not establish how its ingredients become available. Check the game to see whether your class can buy them, whether they are class restricted and whether additional unlock conditions apply. Place the ingredients adjacent, confirm that the recipe is ready, fight one round and craft it when you enter the next shop.

Ingredient counts and branches
ResultIngredientsWhat to check when preparing
Hero SwordWooden Sword ×1 + Whetstone ×1The starting point for sword upgrades. Watch out for the old recipe that required two Whetstones.
Hero LongswordHero Sword ×1 + Whetstone ×2One side of Crossblades. Needs two Whetstones in addition to the one used for Hero Sword.
Falcon BladeHero Sword ×1 + Gloves of Haste ×2The other side of Crossblades. Confirm readiness for the sword and both pairs of gloves.
CrossbladesHero Longsword ×1 + Falcon Blade ×1Uses two completed intermediate weapons. Putting only Wooden Swords adjacent will not craft it.
TorchWooden Sword ×1 + Lump of Coal ×1Another branch sharing Wooden Sword with Hero Sword. Check recipe conflicts first.
Poison DaggerDagger ×1 + Pestilence Flask ×1The poison branch for Dagger. Lock crafting if you want to keep the ingredients.
ShovelBroom ×1 + Pan ×1Combines two attacking items into one. Recheck star targets and bag range after crafting.
Claws of AttackGloves of Haste ×1 + Walrus Tusk ×1A different branch using gloves. Make sure it does not consume the two intended for Falcon Blade.

Crossblades: a three-stage example from basic ingredients

  1. 1: Make two Hero Swords

Craft two Hero Swords from two Wooden Swords and two Whetstones. If both recipes are ready before you fight one round, both can craft on the same shop entry.

  2. 2: Follow two different upgrades

Add two more Whetstones to one sword for Hero Longsword. Add two Gloves of Haste to the other for Falcon Blade.

  3. 3: Craft Crossblades

Place the completed Hero Longsword and Falcon Blade adjacent. Confirm readiness and craft Crossblades in the next shop. Check affected areas and stamina afterward.

Starting from basic ingredients without buying intermediates requires two Wooden Swords, four Whetstones and two Gloves of Haste in total. Each stage is planned for a separate shop progression. This does not guarantee when ingredients appear or that the run wins.

Official version 0.9.29 changed Hero Sword to one Wooden Sword plus one Whetstone. One side needs three Whetstones: one for Hero Sword and two more for Hero Longsword. The other side needs one, making four in total.

Crafting readiness and locking: four checks

Do not judge readiness by line color alone

Use light-blue lines for candidates and gold lines to check adjacency. Confirm the required quantities, finished item name and ingredient counts before fighting.

Lock unwanted branches

Whetstone and Coal around a Wooden Sword, or Hero Sword and Walrus Tusk around gloves, create alternative recipe candidates. Right-click to lock crafting for items you want to retain, leaving only the intended combination ready.

Distinguish catalysts from ordinary consumed ingredients

If a recipe marks a retained ingredient in green, that item remains after crafting. Do not apply consumption rules from a different catalyst recipe to the eight recipes above.

Keep your current fighting strength while waiting for ingredients

Crafting requires further shop progress. Do not spend all space and money on a future result; collect ingredients while keeping current damage, defense and healing functional.

What was checked here is the recipe relationship. Check the in-game screen for ingredient availability, class restrictions and additional unlock conditions. This is not a list of ingredients purchasable by every class. Current class-specific shop pools, the complete recipe collection, individual DPS and prices, win rates and strongest-item rankings are unverified. Distinguish the announcement’s version number from the descriptions in the game you are running.
