Backpack Battles / Patch 1.1.9

Backpack Battles Build Examples: Placement, Purchases and Alternatives for Seven Classes

Seven examples you can assemble from your current inventory. Read placement and purchase priorities when a core item appears alongside alternatives when it does not. Class-selection criteria are covered in the separate comparison.

🔄 Last checked 2026-10-13 🏷️ Version PC version 1.1.9 🎮 PC (Steam)

✍️ The latest official announcement checked is PC 1.1.9. Build examples and selection criteria are editorial examples based on published mechanics. Gameplay, the current UI and win rates have not been tested.

Scope: the standard PC game. Do not assume the same rules apply to Switch Mode or situations that allow items from other classes. Placements illustrate target highlights and paths, rather than prescribing a fixed completed bag or a strongest-build ranking.

7 build examples

Ranger:Physical build with a few weapons and Luck

Core items

  • Hero Sword (example main weapon)
  • Acorn Collar (check which weapons it affects)
  • Stamina support such as Banana

Placement steps that preserve targets

  1. Place Hero Sword in a slot affected by Ranger Bag.
  2. Move Acorn Collar so its ⭐ markers point at your main weapon. Confirm the colored target highlights.
  3. After placing support items, check again that your main weapon remains affected by both the bag and the Collar.
StageBuy, reserve or skip decisions
Early runKeep your current weapon and buy support such as Whetstone that works with it, along with survivability. Gather Hero Sword ingredients once you confirm the recipe in the Library.
Mid-runWhen Acorn Collar appears, first check whether you have room for the main weapon on its ⭐ slots. Add another weapon only when the combat log shows spare stamina.
Late runImprove critical hits and activation count for your main weapon. If you die quickly, use free slots for armor or healing before adding offensive items.

Alternatives and how to continue without a core item

  • Hero Sword unfinished: keep your current Wooden Sword or Broom so you can still attack while waiting to craft.
  • No Acorn Collar: continue with Luck sources you have, such as Lucky Clover. Fix inadequate defense before spending rerolls chasing one Collar.

Check: If a weapon is not working, check for exhausted stamina before blaming insufficient critical hits. Adding several weapons and Haste together also raises consumption.

Reaper:Fly Agaric and damage-over-time survival build

Core items

  • Fly Agaric (initial poison source)
  • Storage Coffin (place activating items here)
  • Food such as Garlic and Banana, plus armor

Placement steps that preserve targets

  1. Place Fly Agaric and activating support items where they function inside Storage Coffin.
  2. Place Food on the ⭐ slots referenced by Fly Agaric. Sharing a bag alone does not mean an item is affected.
  3. Use armor alongside them to survive long enough to build up poison.
StageBuy, reserve or skip decisions
Early runBuy the missing role among Fly Agaric, Food and armor. Do not add only poison items; check the combat log for how long healing and defense actually worked.
Mid-runIf you find Poison Goobert, first decide whether it fits. When pursuing its recipe, check the Goobert and Fly Agaric ingredients in the Library and avoid losing all your existing poison sources.
Late runIf you lose before poison accumulates, spend on survival. If you survive a long time but lack poison, increase poison-source activations. Do not rebuild both sides at once.

Alternatives and how to continue without a core item

  • Poison Goobert unfinished: keep Fly Agaric and improve existing healing and armor.
  • No more Fly Agaric: check activating items inside the Coffin and your durability. Do not reserve large quantities of ingredients for a recipe you have not found.

Check: This is a long-fight example. Adding more poison alone does not fix a run in which you are defeated too quickly.

Berserker:Axe upgrades and offense/defense during Rage

Core items

  • Axe / Double Axe (main weapon candidates)
  • Forging Hammer (check its crafting role)
  • Leather Armor/Dragonscale Armor

Placement steps that preserve targets

  1. Place the uncrafted Axe where you can actually use it inside the bag.
  2. When choosing a recipe, put ingredients adjacent and check the crafting lines and resulting shape. Do not start too many weapon and armor recipes at once.
  3. Leave room for large finished items such as Double Axe. Do not remove stamina support just to squeeze them in.
StageBuy, reserve or skip decisions
Early runUse Axe and armor to maintain your current fighting strength. Before buying a second Axe as an ingredient, check stamina and survivability with both placed.
Mid-runChoose between pursuing Double Axe and upgrading armor with Forging Hammer. Prioritize armor if you die before Rage takes effect.
Late runCheck the balance between activations and consumption during Rage before adding more completed main weapons. Skip extra large weapons that crowd out armor and support.

Alternatives and how to continue without a core item

  • Cannot assemble Double Axe: keep a single Axe and set up armor and support first.
  • Armor recipe not ready: continue using Leather Armor. Do not sell it until the Library and crafting lines confirm the recipe is ready.

Check: Crafting changes shapes and occupied slots. Avoid purchases whose finished items do not fit, and avoid losing fighting strength by holding only ingredients.

Pyromancer:Physical build that converts Flame into a weapon

Core items

  • Flame
  • Hero Sword/Burning Sword
  • Fire Pit and survival items

Placement steps that preserve targets

  1. Put the Flame you retain within Fire Pit’s affected area. Check the effect highlights to confirm the range.
  2. If pursuing Burning Sword, check the ingredients in the Library and place the required Flame adjacent to the weapon.
  3. After crafting consumes Flame, recheck the remaining bag effects and survivability.
StageBuy, reserve or skip decisions
Early runUse a weapon and Flame that work now, then choose one recipe. Do not hold ingredients for both distant Dragon and sword recipes at the same time.
Mid-runChoose the Hero Sword-to-Burning Sword recipe when you have the ingredients and room. If you need armor first, do not spend all Flame on offense.
Late runKeep Burning Sword as the main weapon and support its activation count and your survival time. Even if Sun Shield appears, buy it only after checking whether its current tooltip and placement fit your build.

Alternatives and how to continue without a core item

  • Burning Sword unfinished: keep a usable weapon such as Hero Sword. Do not rush crafting at the cost of survivability.
  • Sword ingredients do not appear: continue with Flame and your existing weapon. Change direction only when you can secure the new core item and its placement.

Check: More stored Flame alone does not complete a win condition. Evaluate the effects lost through crafting separately from the effects gained.

Mage:Staff build with Mana supply established first

Core items

  • Mana Orb
  • Broom/Magic Staff
  • Blueberries (check Mana-generation conditions) and armor

Placement steps that preserve targets

  1. Place activating support items on Mana Orb’s target slots to establish the supply.
  2. Before using Magic Staff, check that Mana-supply items have not moved outside the required area.
  3. After adding another Staff, use the combat log to check whether supply covers both. Return to one if it does not.
StageBuy, reserve or skip decisions
Early runKeep a usable weapon such as Broom and your armor while securing Mana Orb or other Mana support. Do not buy only completed Mana consumers first.
Mid-runCheck the Broom and Mana Orb recipe in the Library and work toward Magic Staff. If crafting consumes an Orb that supplied Mana, arrange a separate supply afterward.
Late runIf Mana consumption stalls, shift spending back to supply or survival. Consider an additional consumer only when a fight leaves spare supply.

Alternatives and how to continue without a core item

  • Magic Staff unfinished: continue with an existing weapon such as Broom and buy Mana support and armor first.
  • No additional Mana Orb: do not add more Staffs. Maintain the supply and defense already available, including Blueberries.

Check: Do not confuse the main Mana consumer with the items producing Mana. Do not count Blueberries as producing Mana before their Luck requirement is met; check the current tooltip for that condition. Confirm that supply remains after crafting.

Adventurer:A flexible direction from neutral weapons and defense

Core items

  • Wooden Sword/Hero Sword
  • Wooden Buckler・Leather Armor
  • Stamina support such as Banana

Placement steps that preserve targets

  1. Place the support affecting your main weapon first, leaving slots for armor and stamina support.
  2. When pursuing Hero Sword, put the ingredients adjacent while keeping the current weapon usable.
  3. Before buying into another item family, check its core item, supply and placement as one package.
StageBuy, reserve or skip decisions
Early runEven during a sale, prioritize items that serve current damage or defense. Establish fighting strength with neutral weapons and armor before accumulating several unfinished recipes.
Mid-runUse the combat log to decide between upgrading to Hero Sword and improving armor. If changing direction to match the shop, sell old ingredients to free slots.
Late runComplete the physical build that works now. Do not switch to a build with no supply just because one rare core item from another family appears.

Alternatives and how to continue without a core item

  • Missing Hero Sword ingredients: keep a current weapon such as Wooden Sword and improve armor and support.
  • Too many tempting items: keep only those that work in the next fight or ingredients for a recipe whose completion is in sight.

Check: This example is not restricted to class-exclusive items. A broad selection is not a reason to store many unfinished combinations.

Engineer:Route Charge from Battery / Generator to receiving items

Core items

  • Battery
  • Generator (a possible continuing source)
  • Charge receivers such as Electric Torch

Placement steps that preserve targets

  1. Select Battery or Generator and follow the displayed Charge path. Paths and effects differ between generators; do not apply one arrow diagram to every item.
  2. Items beneath the path receive Charge. Set the direction and position to reach an item such as Electric Torch, then check the target highlights.
  3. When there is room along the path, prioritize receivers with an additional Charge effect. Do not add only generators.
StageBuy, reserve or skip decisions
Early runPair Battery with a receiver you can use now. Before buying a generator that cannot reach the current layout, check its possible direction and targets.
Mid-runWhen adding Generator, check the path and stamina consumption too. If Electric Torch appears, check whether it can receive Charge without breaking the existing path.
Late runSpend on placements that increase receiver activations. If using Plastic Cube, remember that 1.1.9 changed cooldown reduction from the base value to the current value.

Alternatives and how to continue without a core item

  • No Generator: keep Battery and existing receivers, maintaining defense while searching for a continuing source.
  • No Electric Torch: route Charge through an item you already own whose additional Charge effect is confirmed. Recheck the path whenever you change receivers.

Check: Distinguish sources such as Battery and Generator from receivers such as Electric Torch. After lining items up along a path, check each actual target highlight.

Check exact ingredient counts and current effects in the Library (opened with Tab in the official 1.1 update) and the recipe display (Alt). An item name alone does not make it a planned completion when its conditions or ingredients are not ready.

Compare class-selection criteria

Five build stages

  • Fill the affected area of the starting bag.
  • Check shortages in damage, defense, healing and stamina.
  • Pair resource suppliers with consuming items.
  • Narrow your main direction after subclass selection.
  • Late in a run, refine existing item speed and placement rather than starting another item family.

Common mistakes

  • Buying several impressive weapons and running out of stamina.
  • Collecting Poison, Heat or Mana without an outlet that converts it into a win.
  • Filling the bag with waiting ingredients and reducing current fighting strength.
