The first 100 years decide it. Early on, knowing what to give up matters most. This guide covers common stumbling points using official information and widely established mechanics.
What is Stellaris?
A galaxy-spanning science-fiction grand strategy/4X game. Create a species and empire, venture into space, explore, colonize, and expand through alien diplomacy and war. As expected of Paradox, its systems are extensive: economy, research, fleet design, government, ethics, and species rights all need management. The company has also kept releasing expansions for nearly ten years, with mechanics updated between playthroughs. Randomly generated galaxies and sudden galaxy-wide crises keep events from unfolding identically. Over 196,000 Steam reviews with a Very Positive rating. Japanese is supported.

「The first 100 years decide it. Early on, knowing what to give up matters most」 — Based on the official Steam store description and review record
1. Early colony choices affect the late game
The first systems you secure change resources, borders, and research speed. Assessing what you can hold is more stable than expanding everywhere.
2. Check economic bottlenecks before total surplus
Each resource has production and consumption; a shortage in one can cause a chain of failures. Look for deficit resources before judging the total surplus.
3. Focused research progresses faster
Research has three fields, with choices offered randomly. Choose a direction and keep pursuing it to grow stronger sooner rather than chasing everything.
4. Fleet composition matters more than numbers
Fleets mismatched to enemy weapons and defenses collapse even with numbers. Adjusting ship designs to the enemy is central to combat.
5. Many expansions keep changing the mechanics
Nearly ten years of expansions and updates mean older guides can contradict the current game. Always check the date of your reference.
This guide uses the official Steam store description and mechanics that have remained stable over time. Specific numerical values, recipes, and balance details are omitted because updates can change them:
