Version: PlayStation 2, original 2003 Japanese release / Compares official product information with multiple guides whose editions can be identified. It is not verified through hands-on play. The text is independently organized. Includes 1 hub and 1 main guide; this does not mean complete coverage of the story, all data, or every missable.

1. Explore the hotel before using the simulator

At the Grand Tier, use the transporter to reach the main building and speak to Peppita in the Rossetti troupe's dressing room in the northeast. Using the battle simulator in the lounge afterward advances the story and ends the period when you can freely explore the hotel. Visit the beach and see any conversations first if you want to. Winning every simulator battle is not required to advance. You can focus on learning the controls here.

2. Use room numbers to navigate the evacuation facility

At the evacuation facility, meet the Rossetti troupe in Room 509, then return to Room 506. After Sophia rests, examine an empty bed and sleep to advance. Someone in Room 502 can also heal you. If you lose track of where to go, check whether you have finished the required conversations and rest instead of repeatedly walking near the entrance. On the transport ship, talk to people and move between corridors and rooms to progress events, then head to the escape pod.

3. Travel between Whipple Village and the escape pod

On Vanguard III, pass through Pesotto Forest to Whipple Village. After resting at the house, listen to the villagers, then return to Meena and Niklas's house to advance the music-box conversation. The next step is to return once to the escape pod, then go back to the village. After the event in which Niklas disappears, head to the Ruins of Coffir. When the next step requires returning to the village, continuing to search only the forest will make the opening more confusing.

4. Make use of Cliff against Norton

Deep in the ruins, use the numbers written nearby as clues to enter the passcode at the hideout's terminal. Cliff joins the Norton battle ahead. If Fayt keeps taking hits up close, try keeping your distance and switching control to Cliff. After winning, do not leave immediately: collect the music-box parts and return to the village. Check for Medecetra's Jewel from the village chief too, then head to the cliff near the escape pod.

5. Choose minor and major attacks according to the enemy's state

Minor attacks are quick but can be stopped by guarding. Major attacks break guards but start more slowly, so using only major attacks is not always the answer. If an attack is deflected, do not repeat the same input without checking whether the enemy is guarding or whether you can act first. Start against safe opponents, practicing when to exploit an opening with a minor attack and when to break a guard with a major attack. These decisions also help against stronger enemies.

6. Protect MP as well as HP

In this game, reaching 0 MP also incapacitates a character. If someone falls despite having enough HP, check whether they are taking MP damage. Many warrior-type skills also consume HP, so repeating them reduces your own staying power. Before starting a long chain, check your reserves and healing options. Conserve resources against enemies that normal attacks can handle, leaving enough for skills against dangerous opponents.

7. MP damage is another offensive option in the original version

Fayt's Aerial and Blazing Sword give you early ways to attempt MP damage. Try them as alternatives against enemies whose HP takes too long to deplete. Blazing Sword still requires attention to elemental matchups. Do not force the same skill against resistant enemies; compare normal attacks or another skill. Explanations of high-multiplier cancel chains for the Director's Cut do not transfer directly to this original release.

Before moving on

After defeating Norton, finish your business in the village, heal, and reequip before leaving. Once you depart Vanguard III, you cannot return for a while. If you want optional conversations, keep a save from before advancing the events. This article covers early progression and combat decisions; it does not guarantee every Private Action or complete recovery of all missables.
