STAR OCEAN 3 Guide (Original PS2 Version)

This guide covers the original PlayStation 2 release from February 2003. It excludes the Director's Cut released in 2004 and later versions based on it. Even when story progression is the same, combat systems and skill performance differ, so check the edition when using information labeled only “SO3 guide.”

The main article, “Hyda to the Norton Battle and Combat Basics,” covers conversations that can stall early progression, trips between the village and escape pod, HP and MP management, and choosing between minor attacks, major attacks, and guarding. It does not cover late-story spoilers or how to craft final equipment.

Do not explain the original version's combo damage using Cancel Bonuses added in the Director's Cut. Even skills with the same names can have different strengths in different versions. If combat stops you, check the HP and MP costs and how a skill works in your edition before simply chasing names of powerful skills.
