ABOUT

What is Phasmophobia?

Uses standard PC Amateur investigations to check equipment failures, missing evidence, and inability to finish a contract. Links first-investigation, evidence, and Tier I equipment guides.

ℹ️ Information organized from reference material Steam store page →

Edition: PC Steam app 739630, standard release, no mods. First example: standard Amateur settings, three evidence, Tier I starter equipment, keyboard/mouse. Solo and co-op for up to four; Voice/Text recognition addressed separately. VR, consoles, Custom, and weekly challenges are not treated as identical conditions.

Verification scope: Official standard v0.19.0.2, dated September 16, 2026, checked October 4, 2026. Incorporates v0.18.0.1 equipment bindings and v0.19.0.0 shared Journal displays. The event update scheduled for October 6 and planned 1.0 are not treated as already implemented. Equipment details use public-source checks, not exhaustive gameplay testing.

Start by linking actions on Amateur with three evidence

Phasmophobia is an investigation game: check activity with equipment, select the ghost in the Journal, and return. Witnessing a paranormal event alone does not confirm evidence. Record what you measured separately from what appeared.

Choose equipment and displays by the problem

The same reaction means different things while locating a room versus confirming evidence. A low EMF reading, for example, is a search clue but is different from EMF Level 5.

Do not exclude evidence from difficulty name alone

Evidence does not decrease one step at every difficulty. Read contract settings before deciding how to handle absent evidence.

Insanity1One piece of evidence may not settle every candidate

Distinguish evidence not yet confirmed from evidence hidden by settings. Open only the closed supplementary section in the evidence guide for specific exceptional cases.

Choose one purpose before returning inside

You need not carry everything on one trip. Select equipment answering the current question, measure, then return to the truck with the result.

  1. Prepare: check difficulty, optional objectives, and equipment. Separately check whether purchases were added to the truck.
  2. Search: take the key and enter. Check lighting and breaker, then use noises and temperature differences to choose equipment-placement candidates.
  3. Measure: the person seeing a response reports the equipment name and reading. Do not mark evidence from white breath or flickering alone.
  4. Finish: everyone reviews evidence and ghost selection in their own Journal, then all survivors return to the truck and operate its keypad.

Truck support can view cameras and monitors but does not automatically know every danger inside. Solo players must alternate camera checks with on-site measurements.

FAQ

Phasmophobia FAQ

Q1 Does increasing difficulty always reduce evidence? ▼
A

Standard Amateur, Intermediate, and Professional give three; Nightmare gives two; Insanity gives one. Custom allows 0–3, so check contract settings instead of saying the highest difficulty always gives one.

Q2 Can I investigate without a microphone? ▼
A

Equipment questions can use selectable prompts under Text recognition. Arrange co-op communication separately. This separates recognition faults from inadequate room or distance conditions.

Q3 Does high Sanity guarantee I will not be attacked? ▼
A

High Sanity alone cannot guarantee safety. Contract settings and ghost-specific conditions also matter. Check escape routes first, and do not decide to continue solely from flickering.

Q4 In co-op, does one person's ghost selection count for everyone? ▼
A

Everyone selects in their own Journal. The current version shows teammates' evidence and candidates, but does not remove the need for your own final selection.
