MECCHA CHAMELEON / GUIDE

MECCHA CHAMELEON hiding — position, sampling, shape and gloss

Source updated 2026-10-12

Choose the target and pose before painting, rather than looking for a place afterward. If similar colors still stand out, inspect gloss and outline separately.

Based on official announcements and public references. PC bindings are examples: follow current on-screen prompts. No gameplay testing or complete map-layout inspection has been performed. Map names here are translated reference labels; their exact English in-game UI wording has not been independently confirmed.

Position, paint, then inspect from other angles

Preparation time varies by room. Instead of a fixed number of painting seconds, order tasks so broad coverage and final checks both fit.

  1. Choose a nearby wall or object whose shape and color you will match.
  2. Adjust pose/direction and check limbs do not protrude.
  3. Open painting and sample the contact surface with the 3D eyedropper.
  4. Paint broad surfaces before patterns and boundary lines.
  5. Inspect white surfaces and detached outlines from the side, rear and low angles.

Identify why you were found before repainting

Separate differences in color, shape, material and movement. Repainting cannot necessarily fix an incorrect shape.

Do not use one fixed brightness/gloss setting everywhere

Choose position and pose before sampling. Check side protrusions first; sampling the surface there reduces the need to adjust colors prepared elsewhere.

Paint large surfaces, then inspect limbs and back. Detailing first can leave most of the body white in short preparation windows. Rotate after covering the torso to inspect fingers, joints and back.

Check color and gloss separately. Strong reflection beside wood or dullness beside metal can reveal the shape despite similar colors. Compare nearby surfaces while adjusting metallic and roughness.

Reinspect from other directions after hiding. A finished front view is insufficient: check low and side views. If thickness remains after repainting, change position or pose.

No metallic/roughness value guarantees success on every map. Glow paint is not automatically better camouflage; check how visible it becomes.

Survival and overlook points are separate goals

Overlook points relate to distance and time within a Hunter's view; an announced change stops accumulation while moving. Surviving outside view and scoring while visible involve different decisions.

For survival practice, stabilize painting and pose instead of exposing yourself only for points. For scoring, check mode and ranking displays too.

Inspect clones like the original

Clones can contribute to overlook metrics, but being shot also affects the original. A visible decoy does not guarantee a benefit.

  1. Choose the clone's surface and pose.
  2. Check missed paint and thickness on clones as well as the original.
  3. Separate scoring positions from harder-to-find positions.
  4. Learn removal before repeatedly adding clones in dangerous positions.

Separate solo inspection from match practice

A solo room helps practice movement, posing, sampling, painting and map inspection, but cannot reproduce opponents' patrols or shots.

  1. Practice repeated sampling and detaching near ground level.
  2. View one target from front and side to inspect body exposure.
  3. After a match, compare your hiding with the actual directions opponents viewed.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Q1 Is good painting enough? ▼
A

Position and pose also matter. If thickness is visible from the side, fix the pose or contact surface before colors.

Q2 Should metallic always be maximum? ▼
A

It depends on surrounding materials. Strong reflections can look misplaced: adjust gloss and roughness separately from color.

Q3 Are clones risk-free decoys? ▼
A

No. Destruction also eliminates the original. Inspect their placement and paint as carefully as your own.
