Separate early runs aimed at bringing back resources to develop the camp from runs aimed at challenging the Lich. You do not need to place every card in your hand. Watch the boss meter and first check whether you can return safely and whether your equipment needs updating.
What is Loop Hero?
A card placement roguelite about traveling through a world cast into an endless loop by a grim reaper. Its unusual feature is that you do not control the character directly. The hero walks around the loop and fights automatically. Your job is to **place enemy, building, and terrain cards** around that loop. Placing enemies naturally increases danger, but also brings more experience, equipment, and resources. Deciding how much danger to create yourself is the heart of the game. Placed cards affect one another, and combinations can produce unexpected effects. Over 36,000 Steam reviews, rated Very Positive. Japanese is supported.

「Separate early runs aimed at bringing back resources to develop the camp from runs aimed at challenging the Lich. You do not need to place every card in your hand. Watch the boss meter and first check whether you can return safely and whether your equipment needs updating.」 — How to use this guide (editorial explanation)
An introduction to progressing from the Warrior in Chapter 1 to the first Lich in the PC base game. Later classes and chapters, mobile editions, and modified settings are outside its scope. Sources reviewed and article revised: October 3, 2026.
5 essentials for Chapter 1 runs
1. Combat is automatic; choose placements and equipment
Movement and ordinary combat happen automatically. You decide where to place acquired cards, when to change equipment, and whether to continue the run or return.
2. Enemies appear even without card placement
Slimes appear on the road. The assumption that no enemies or rewards appear at all unless you place cards is incorrect. Placements increase the types and number of enemies, letting you adjust rewards and danger.
3. Placing cards also advances the boss meter
The on-screen meter advances as cards are placed on the map. When full, the boss appears at camp. Its appearance is not tied to a fixed loop number.
4. Change equipment instead of just collecting it
Compare new equipment with what you are wearing and update the attributes you need. Do not choose solely by level or color; check what is lacking now, such as maximum HP, healing, attack, or evasion.
5. Define success for resource runs too
Check the resources needed next on the building screen and make bringing them back your goal. Do not treat defeating the boss as the only success from the start; expand camp using the resources you return with.
3 conditions for bringing resources back
| Return conditions | Resources retained | Hypothetical example | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| The display indicates a safe return to camp | 100% | If you collected 10 units of a resource, the calculation retains all 10 units. | Return when the retreat button is highlighted near camp and the confirmation screen shows that you will retain everything. |
| An ordinary retreat partway along the road | 60% | For a hypothetical 10 units, you retain 6. | If you judge that you cannot survive until the next safe return, check retreat conditions before you die. |
| Dying during the run | 30% | For a hypothetical 10 units, you retain 3. | Pushing into another loop does not guarantee that you can keep all the resources collected. |
This table assumes ordinary Chapter 1 conditions without spending special resources to waive losses. The hypothetical 10 units only illustrate percentages; they do not show actual rounding or resource-combination behavior. The exact distance check around camp, including version differences, remains unverified, so prioritize the retention information on the button and confirmation screen.
5 steps for returning from a resource run
- Before setting out, check the building screen for resources missing from the next facility. Decide what this run is intended to bring back.
- Place cards that add enemies gradually. If repeated fights are draining HP, review equipment and healing before increasing rewards.
- Before returning to camp, check current HP, the next enemies, and the boss meter. Instead of using a fixed safe HP threshold, judge whether your current equipment has been getting you through.
- Once you meet your resource goal, read the highlighted retreat button near camp and the confirmation screen. Return after confirming that you will retain all resources.
- If you cannot endure the remaining road, compare the 60% from an ordinary retreat with the 30% retained on death. Do not gamble all collected resources without grounds to expect you can reach the next return point.
Options unlocked by early camp buildings
Field Kitchen
A building that increases healing when passing camp.
When to use it: If healing each loop is insufficient, check this function on the construction and upgrade screens. Read the required resources and current healing amount there.
Herbalist’s Hut
A building that lets you use healing potions.
When to use it: An option for increasing healing methods during a run. This guide does not specify fixed refill quantities or HP activation thresholds.
Gymnasium
A building that unlocks choosing Traits through experience and the Village card.
When to use it: Check the Traits available instead of assuming that defeating enemies automatically raises every base attribute.
5 steps before facing the first Lich
- On a run aimed at the Lich, check equipment and HP before filling the meter. Do not place everything merely because you have cards in hand.
- When the Lich appears, Palaces are built in empty spaces around camp. Place tiles in available spaces beforehand to reduce room for Palaces.
- Palaces increase the Lich's HP and attack. Each Palace grants a 5% boost, so first check whether any spawned Palaces should remain.
- If you obtain Oblivion, keep it as a way to remove Palaces after they appear. Do not spend it elsewhere before using it for this purpose.
- Challenge the boss after preparing. If you lose, review enemy-adding placements, equipment updates, and remaining Palaces separately. You can return to resource runs next time.
2 placement examples that change rewards and danger
Place a Meadow next to another tile type
An ordinary Meadow becomes a Blooming Meadow, increasing daily healing.
Placement decision: Distinguish between placing many isolated Meadows and placing them next to other tile types. Current healing values are not listed here.
Fill the spaces around a Treasury
Filling its surroundings grants resources and turns it into an Empty Treasury.
Placement decision: Once empty, it spawns enemies, so this placement does not grant rewards while remaining safe.
Versions covered and unverified areas
The official PC update baseline confirmed for this guide is v1.155 (June 2022). Later announcements for other platforms have not been treated as PC version numbers. The current binary and rounding behavior have not been checked in the game, and no playtesting has been performed.
- The functions of the Field Kitchen and Gymnasium were cross-checked against multiple sources, but independent reproduction checks for the Herbalist's Hut refill quantity and activation conditions remain insufficient. Check building values on the actual game screen.
- This guide does not list every card adjacency reaction, current boss stats, enemy spawn cycles, or rankings of the strongest equipment. For the exact safe return position around camp, prioritize the confirmation screen.
