💡 Choosing abilities

First scroll: complement the main weapon

Compare abilities that offer a different area or attack pattern from the main weapon. This is not described as acquiring a manually activated skill at a fixed character level.

After acquisition: develop the relevant traits

Read tags such as physical, magic, projectile and summon, and check what an upgrade affects. Adding too many abilities can dilute the choices for your main option.

Next scroll: check upgrade requirements

Check the required ability rank and completed quest before looking for an upgrade. Character level alone does not automatically unlock any upgrade you want.

❓ FAQ
How do I acquire abilities?

Select abilities from ability scrolls. For a locked ability, check its individual quest on the Quest Board. The starting main weapon, ability acquisition and ability-upgrade requirements are separate.

What is the difference between abilities and traits?

Abilities add attacks. Traits are upgrades chosen on level-up during a run, with different targets such as basic stats, characters or abilities. The old draft’s mana-based active/passive classification is not used.

Is there a single strongest build?

A controlled ranking of every character in the current version has not been verified. Choose around weapon and ability tags, unlocked equipment and the quest objective. Do not apply the same multipliers indiscriminately to direct damage and effects such as Burn or Spark.

How should I choose abilities during a run?

Cover an area or attack pattern your main weapon lacks. More abilities also add more traits to the selection pool, so consider developing a main option before adding another. If an upgrade is absent, check the current rank and unlock quest.
