Gunpoint Beginner's Guide — Turn the Building into a Trap
Practical instructions checked against published guides have been added to the existing official overview. Added material checked: October 15, 2026. Not tested in the game.
Wiring Controls and Troubleshooting
Covers the base PC (Steam) game. The official Crosslink description and independent guides were checked on 2026-10-15. Instructions describe standard controls; if you have remapped them, follow your in-game settings. Gameplay, routes through every mission, and scoring have not been tested.

Make Your First Connection
Open detailed steps and checklists
Change a switch's target to a closed door
- After obtaining the Crosslink, switch to the wiring display mode. In the early wiring tutorial, find a switch connected to a light and the door you want to open.
- Grab the switch end with the mouse and drag the connection to the door. Do more than look at the line: confirm that its destination has changed.
- Return to normal movement and activate the switch. If the door works, continue; if it does not, display the wiring again and check both source and destination.
| Role | What to check |
|---|---|
| Input | A switch you can activate |
| Output | The door you want to open or device you want to operate |
| Test the result | After rewiring, actually activate the input |
- Distinguish buying the Crosslink during the story's wiring tutorial from applying it in later situations. This does not mean every stage has the same layout.
When You Cannot Connect a Device
Open detailed steps and checklists
Check the Circuit Box and Wirejack
- Check whether the device you want to connect belongs to a circuit you cannot yet rewire.
- Go to the corresponding Circuit Box and activate it nearby using the displayed in-game control. Simply drawing a line from far away is not enough.
- After using the Wirejack to access the circuit, return to the Crosslink display and reconnect the intended input and output.
- Circuit Boxes are checkpoints for expanding which devices you can control. Upgrade purchase order, every circuit color, and box locations in individual missions are outside this review's scope.
When You Want to Stop a Guard
Open detailed steps and checklists
Connect a switch to a trapdoor and activate it as the guard crosses
- Find a trapdoor on the guard's route and a light switch you can operate from safety.
- Use the Crosslink to change the switch's destination to the trapdoor.
- Return to normal movement and press the switch when the guard steps onto the trapdoor.
- Confirm that the guard has moved before passing through. Check separately that the entrance is open and the corridor ahead is safe.
- This turns the official wiring example into an action sequence. Trapdoors are not available in every mission; it guarantees neither a nonlethal rating nor the fastest solution.
When Noise Gives You Away
Open detailed steps and checklists
Treat landing noise and breaking glass separately
- Identify large drops and glass-breaking points separately along your entry route.
- Check whether you own the relevant gadget, Dropshot or Hushcracker, for the noise causing problems.
- If you lack the necessary tools for a route, switch to stairs, an elevator, or another entrance opened through rewiring.
| Source of noise | Relevant gadget | What to distinguish in your plan |
|---|---|---|
| Landing after a jump | Dropshot | Check the landing point and nearby guards |
| Entering through broken glass | Hushcracker | Check its purchase status separately from landing-noise protection |
- Owning these does not automatically make you undetectable. Check sightlines, doors, alarms, and other factors separately.
After Reaching a Terminal
Open detailed steps and checklists
Complete the main objective, optional pickups, and escape separately
- Reach the main objective's computer and retrieve the data using the control shown on screen.
- If you want optional terminals or collectibles, track them separately from completing the main objective. Do not treat every side route as mandatory.
- Check the route back to the exit and reopen any doors your wiring changes have closed. After achieving the objective, finish escaping too.
- All optional pickups, top-rating conditions, and late-game branches are outside this guide's scope. Check routes requiring guns or special gadgets separately.
The first thing to remember
Make the guards work for you instead of defeating them. Rewiring with the Crosslink is the core of the game. Connect a light switch to a door, and the guard opens your route the moment he turns on the light. Reshaping the facility to suit your needs is much more reliable than trying to force your way through.
Freely reconnect electrical wiring inside buildings. Change which switches control which devices.
There are several ways through the same mission. You do not need to hunt for one correct answer.
Making guards defeat themselves through mechanisms fits the game better than fighting them.
Movement itself becomes an infiltration tool, such as leaping through a window.
The interface and mission text are in English. The puzzles are visual and easy to understand.
- Inspect the wiring first — Work out which switch connects to what. This is your starting point.
- Watch guard routes — Once you know who uses which switch, you can decide where to set a trap.
- Reconnect and experiment — Try the combination you have imagined. Failure gives you information too.
- Use your movement options — Springing through a window provides another way in besides wiring.
- Look for alternatives — Even after completing a mission, you can often solve it another way. That is part of the appeal.
Trying to force your way through
This is a game about solving problems with mechanisms. Brute force often becomes the hardest option.
Moving without checking the wiring
Understanding what connects where is the starting point for a solution. Observe first.
Searching for the correct answer
There are multiple solutions. Trying your own ideas better fits the game's design.
Buying without checking the language
Japanese is not officially supported. Mission text is in English.
Q. Can I play without reading English?
The puzzles are visual and easy to understand . Mission briefings and the story are in English, however, so those parts will be harder to follow.
Q. Is it difficult?
Having several solutions makes getting stuck less likely . Trying an idea can open a path forward.
Q. How long does it take to finish?
It is a compact game . Looking for alternative solutions gives you more to enjoy.
Q. What else has the developer made?
Tactical Breach Wizards is another released game by Suspicious Developments.
