Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor
DRG Survivor Weapons Specialist Gunner Build: Minigun Upgrades and Unlocks
Start from Weapons Specialist Gunner’s minigun, then add unlocked Projectile weapons when offered. This plan emphasizes a shared Kinetic/Projectile loadout and timely minigun overclocks rather than assuming a fixed four-weapon drop order.

Unlocks: distinguish player rank and class rank
Gunner becomes available at Player Rank 3. Weapons Specialist is its starting class MOD. The complete four-weapon plan below additionally needs Gunner Class Rank 3 for BRT7; do not confuse these persistent ranks with the dwarf level during a dive.
| Requirement | Purpose | What it is not |
|---|---|---|
| Player Rank 3 | Unlock Gunner | The level of an individual weapon. |
| Gunner Class Rank 3 | Unlock BRT7 as a candidate | The next in-dive weapon slot. |
| Scout Class Rank 1 | Deepcore GK2 is in the unlocked pool | A requirement to play Scout during this run. |
| Weapons Specialist | Access to unlocked Projectile weapons from other classes | Strong Armed, which belongs to Driller. |
Target loadout: add support in the order offered
Start with Lead Storm. The other three are targets for later selections, not four weapons granted at the beginning. Random offers depend on the unlocked pool. Take a usable alternative if survival requires it; this is a plan rather than a compulsory sequence.
| Weapon | Role | Aiming and fit |
|---|---|---|
| “Lead Storm” Powered Minigun | Main weapon | Fires toward the dwarf’s facing/movement direction; position so the firing lane crosses enemies. |
| “Bulldog” Heavy Revolver | Nearby-target support | Targets nearby enemies while the minigun covers its lane. |
| BRT7 Burst Fire Gun | Multiple-direction support | Fires in four fixed directions; it is not nearest-target auto-aim. |
| Deepcore GK2 | Nearby-target support | Available through the unlocked Projectile pool. |
Two different sets of level breakpoints
The additional weapon selections and the minigun’s overclocks use different level counters. Shared tag upgrades do not advance an individual pictured weapon’s level.
| Counter | Breakpoints | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Dwarf level in a normal dive | 5 / 15 / 25 | Choose the three additional weapons when offered. |
| Individual weapon level | 6 / 12 | Balanced overclock choices. |
| Individual weapon level | 18 | Unstable overclock choice. |
| Player / class rank | Persistent unlocks | Prepare the weapon pool before starting; not a substitute for weapon levels. |
Upgrade route: give the minigun a clear job
Spreading every weapon-specific card among different guns can delay the main weapon’s next overclock. The priority below is an editorial choice for this loadout, not a requirement for every successful dive. Take needed survivability over a rigid damage checklist.
- Use early minigun-specific upgrades to aim for weapon level 6. Compare damage, firing rate and reload against the problem in the current fight.
- Add support weapons at dwarf levels 5, 15 and 25 from the offers available; do not insist that Bulldog must always appear before BRT7.
- Continue the minigun toward weapon level 12, then 18 if the dive supports it, instead of scattering its last needed upgrade just before a breakpoint.
- With at least two weapons sharing a tag, tag-wide choices can appear. The proposed four weapons share Kinetic and Projectile while their damage types remain unchanged.
- Use shared cards to improve the group, but remember they do not increase the minigun’s individual level. Check the pictured weapon on a weapon-specific card.
- Use Nitra weapon upgrades near an important main-gun breakpoint. Spend Gold on relevant shop choices or rerolls only when the run can afford them.
Overclock choices: read the drawback too
By version 1.0, overclocks were available on a weapon’s first use; the old separate level-12 permanent-unlock grind was already obsolete. You still need to reach the in-dive weapon thresholds. The options below are conditional choices, not guaranteed offers.
| Choice | Why consider it | Tradeoff or check |
|---|---|---|
| Gas Rerouting | A firing-rate option | The current Wiki and official June notes disagree on the second stat. Read your current card; this guide does not print a guessed second modifier. |
| Bigger Mags | A larger magazine | A reload-speed drawback makes the larger magazine a trade, not a free improvement. |
| High Caliber Rounds | Damage and piercing | Lower firing rate can conflict with a rapid-fire plan. |
| Lead Wrapped Ammo | A level-18 damage specialization | Firing and reload speed decrease. Preserve space and time to reload. |
| The Favourite | Stronger focus on one weapon | It penalizes the other weapons. Do not treat it as a free buff for the whole loadout. |
Positioning and failure checks
| Problem | Likely check | Adjustment |
|---|---|---|
| Minigun fires away from the pack | Your facing/movement direction | Change the route so enemies enter the forward firing lane; avoid only looking at the closest target. |
| BRT7 misses the nearest enemy | Its fixed-direction fire | Move so its lanes cross the enemy route; it does not aim like Bulldog. |
| No overclock at dwarf level 12 | Wrong level counter | Check the minigun’s weapon level. |
| All four guns feel weak | Weapon-specific upgrades spread too widely | Choose a main-gun breakpoint and use tag cards as group support. |
| Damage changes after an overclock | Type or loadout tradeoffs | Check whether the card changed the weapon’s tags or penalized the other guns. |
| Old passive bug report | Installed version | June 22 Patch 2 fixed a Weapons Specialist damage-effect bug; an old report does not establish a current fault. |
Version limits and what remains untested
Update 1.1 increased Lead Storm’s base damage from 25 to 28 and its magazine from 150 to 200. Do not backdate those values to a launch-version screenshot. The free update and the paid Heavy Duty expansion are distinct; this build does not require the paid weapons.
Between-dive Gear categories, Supply Pod artifacts and the four in-dive weapon slots are separate systems. This guide does not claim a full Gear set, an all-class tier list or a proven highest-damage result.
Gas Rerouting’s conflicting second modifier remains unresolved without a current in-game card check. No game runtime test or comparative Hazard clear was performed for this guide.
Questions and answers
Is Strong Armed a Gunner build?
Strong Armed is a Driller class MOD. This guide uses Weapons Specialist Gunner and its starting Lead Storm minigun.
Must I unlock overclocks with a separate level-12 run?
That older requirement was already obsolete by version 1.0. Overclock choices in a dive still use weapon levels 6, 12 and 18.
