Gear basics: equipment, level, stats and quirks
Gear is persistent equipment found during missions and selected for Class MODs between dives. Manage it separately from weapon slots and Supply Pod artifacts. Each category has a role; do not assume multiple pieces can occupy the same category.
The 1.0 preview explains that Gear stats add to meta upgrades and are then multiplied by build upgrades during a run. The old formula based on a gear coefficient, rarity coefficient and current class level is unsupported. Compare the relevant equipment and pause-screen stats.
That preview describes three upgrades per item and item levels up to 99. These are 1.0 preview rules, rather than a runtime check of current costs and every variant’s cap. Increasing an item’s level is not treated as the same action as changing rarity.
Roles of the six Gear categories
| Category | Main role |
|---|---|
| Armor | Defense, maximum health and regeneration. Compare against the shortage in the current build. |
| Weapon Mod | Weapon-related stats such as Fire Rate and Critical Chance. |
| Canister | Stats that alter attacks, including Explosion Radius and Potency. |
| Gadget | Mining and collection, including Mining Speed and Pickup Radius. |
| Tool | Stats such as Reload Speed and Weapon Range. Some bonuses cross category boundaries. |
| Chip | Bosco’s stats, weapons and utility. This is separate from the dwarf’s four weapon slots. |
Stats can cross category boundaries. Armor pieces are not identical, and a Chip is not automatically a conversion for carried weapons. Compare the checked item effects in the table below.
Separate four rarities from Gear Level
The four rarities are Uncommon, Rare, Epic and Legendary. The official preview says rarer items have more stats and Legendary items can carry two quirks. Fixed counts of 2/2/3/3 stats and 0/1/1/2 quirks, or a universal multiplier table, have not been checked.
Gear Level affects stat strength, while rarity informs the arrangement of stats and quirks. Do not automatically equip the rarest piece: check weapon tags and triggers. Lower-rarity items are not all marked for immediate sale.
| Compare | Check | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Gear Level | Values can differ for the same effect | Stat difference between equipped and candidate items |
| Rarity | Composition of stats and quirks | Uncommon / Rare / Epic / Legendary |
| Quirk | Target, trigger, duration and cap | A kill-triggered bonus or a permanent effect |
| Upgrade cost | Credits and minerals spent | Avoid spending everything on an item likely to be replaced soon |
Acquisition and mission choice
Official 1.0 material describes guaranteed Gear from bosses and a smaller chance from ordinary Glyphids. It does not guarantee a specific item or Legendary on every attempt. Collect the drop, then compare it in the Gear menu after returning.
Patch 3 describes roughly a forty-percent increase in drop chance, inventory capacity rising from 102 to 150, and adjusted rarity odds. These are that patch’s changes; they do not establish one current Legendary rate or completion time for every mission.
| Mission | Primary objective | Decision before repeating |
|---|---|---|
| Elimination | Complete the displayed objective and boss, then reach the Drop Pod | If weapon levels are falling behind, practise upgrade choices at a lower Hazard first |
| Escort Duty | Protect and refuel B0b-33 on the way to the Heartstone | Prepare crowd coverage and routes around the moving objective |
| Ordinary enemies | Kill safely and collect drops | Do not miss extraction while chasing Gear |
Real Gear examples: checked versions and limits
The following ten examples are named with effects in the official Gear preview or Patch 3. Do not combine pre-patch values or different variants, or reuse them as a current strength ranking. Preview values and patch changes do not replace the current item card.
| Item | Checked material | Recorded effect | Selection check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hunters Harness | 1.0 preview / Patch 3 | The preview lists +200% Pickup Radius for two seconds after an elite kill. Patch 3 changes heal-on-elite-kill from 10/15/15 to 12/15/18. | The announcement alone does not establish healing units or each variant’s mapping. Do not infer twelve percent of maximum health. |
| Company Breastplate | Patch 3 | Maximum health per weapon above level 9 changes to +20/+25/+30. The Legendary Armor bonus changes to +12.5%. | Keep variant conditions separate; do not combine every listed effect into a single item. |
| Custom Grip | Patch 3 | The Legendary Armor bonus changes to +12.5%. | The old claim of uncapped Damage per Red Sugar pickup remains unchecked. |
| Dwarf Tape | Patch 3 | Armor per weapon above level 9 changes to +6/+9/+12. | This announcement does not establish permanent Damage and Reload increases from Loot Bug kills. |
| Boom Blend | Patch 3 | Its Explosion Radius bonus is counted for each weapon below level 9 (previously below level 6). | Compare retaining low-level weapons with upgrading the main weapon toward an overclock. |
| Strange Mixture | 1.0 preview | An Epic Canister example that gains Potency from collected meta resources. | The current multiplier is unchecked. It is not mandatory for builds that do not use status effects. |
| Flathead Screwdriver | 1.0 preview | A Legendary example that extends the Drop Pod wait by twelve seconds. | A preview reference value. The current item value and stacking with other extensions are untested. |
| Hex Keychain | Patch 3 | The Legendary Drop Pod wait extension changes from ten to fifteen seconds. | Do not assume it is another name for Flathead Screwdriver; check the equipped item. |
| Miners Flash Belt | Patch 3 | Movement speed for ten seconds after a Loot Bug kill changes to +10/+15/+20%. | This is a conditional trigger rather than permanent movement speed. |
| Trusty Canteen | Patch 3 | Legendary changes to +15% Reload Speed for fifteen seconds after a Loot Bug kill, up to three stacks. | Compare the reload benefit while active with the risk of detouring to mine. |
Five goal-based loadouts: decisions for six slots
These are editorial selection examples rather than measured best-in-slot setups. Compare the actual stats, quirks and level in each category. Specific Legendary or locked items are not entry requirements.
Classic Scout: Early movement and GK2 progression
Aim Deepcore GK2 toward its next weapon-level breakpoint at 6 or 12. Collect experience safely through movement and mining; assess whether the setup creates escape routes rather than judging only Weapon Mod damage.
| Slot | Selection criterion (editorial example) |
|---|---|
| Armor | HP or defense when repeated hits are the problem; distinguish Hunters Harness variants. |
| Weapon Mod | Fire Rate, Critical Chance or other stats that apply to GK2. |
| Canister | Potency or radius that fits the selected weapons; avoid overinvesting in irrelevant effects. |
| Gadget | Mining time and pickup range for returning to experience. |
| Tool | Compare reload gaps and what Weapon Range affects. |
| Chip | Read Bosco’s weapon or pickup function separately from GK2’s weapon slot. |
Sharp Shooter Scout: Damage per shot and critical hits
An editorial example around M1000 Classic and critical-hit targets. Cover gaps between slower shots with movement or support weapons. An unchecked freeze-to-guaranteed-critical loop is not required.
| Slot | Selection criterion (editorial example) |
|---|---|
| Armor | Durability to reduce mistakes, rather than deliberately maintaining low health. |
| Weapon Mod | Applicable Critical Chance and weapon Damage. |
| Canister | Effects matching the chosen support weapons. |
| Gadget | How far you can mine after firing and safely collect pickups. |
| Tool | Support Reload so another shot is ready before enemies close in. |
| Chip | Read whether shared tags apply to Bosco too. |
Weapons Specialist Gunner: Lead Storm with Projectile support
Lead Storm, Bulldog, BRT7 and GK2 are four targets from the unlocked pool, rather than a fixed offer sequence. Compare investment toward the next main-weapon overclock with shared Kinetic/Projectile improvements.
| Slot | Selection criterion (editorial example) |
|---|---|
| Armor | Read Company Breastplate’s weapon-level conditions. |
| Weapon Mod | Compare Fire Rate and Damage for Lead Storm. |
| Canister | Effects that do not fit the four weapons’ current tags are not mandatory. |
| Gadget | Mining that creates a usable forward firing lane. |
| Tool | Options that address a long minigun reload. |
| Chip | Check Bosco’s tags separately from carried Projectile weapons. |
Maintenance Worker Engineer: Balance deployment and movement
Create a safe opening before deploying LMG Gun Platform. Read Construct charges, Lifetime and Reload, then choose a position you can leave when needed instead of assuming a permanent stationary formation.
| Slot | Selection criterion (editorial example) |
|---|---|
| Armor | Compare HP and defense during deployment. |
| Weapon Mod | Weapon stats that apply to Constructs. |
| Canister | Effects fitting the Construct’s actual attack tags. |
| Gadget | Mining routes connecting the current and next deployment point. |
| Tool | Compare charges and Reload against the current weapon description. |
| Chip | Distinguish Bosco from Engineer’s carried Drone weapons. |
Interrogator Driller: Fire, Acid and status effects
Read the tradeoff between status effects from CRSPR or other weapons and regular Damage. Strange Mixture illustrates Potency tied to collecting meta resources. Compare that benefit with the detour’s risk, and keep healing and extraction in the plan.
| Slot | Selection criterion (editorial example) |
|---|---|
| Armor | Durability and healing triggers when enemies get close. |
| Weapon Mod | Distinguish regular Damage from status-effect targets. |
| Canister | Compare Potency and Strange Mixture’s resource trigger. |
| Gadget | Mining routes that can be finished quickly. |
| Tool | Effects applicable to the main weapon’s Reload or Range. |
| Chip | Compare Bosco’s extra weapon with current Fire/Acid tags. |
Keeping, upgrading and selling Gear
- Separate equipment for the current Class MOD from a MOD you plan to develop next. Compare candidates against the equipped item’s values, triggers and tags.
- Do not rush to equip a high-rarity bonus that does not help the main weapon. A lower-rarity piece can be worth keeping while it covers a movement, mining or Reload shortage.
- Upgrades use Credits and minerals. Decide whether an item will be replaced soon or serve several MODs before investing; unrestricted rarity promotion is not inferred.
- Before selling, check spare pieces with the same effect and conditions on other variants. Decide by duplication and purpose rather than selling every Uncommon/Rare or keeping every Legendary forever.
FAQ
Are Gear, artifacts and weapons the same system?
Gear is persistent equipment selected between dives. Artifacts are run-specific upgrades obtained through Supply Pods and similar rewards. Weapons begin with the Class MOD’s starting weapon, followed by additional dwarf-level slots.
Does Hunters Harness heal twelve percent?
Official Patch 3 changes heal-on-elite-kill to 12/15/18, but the announcement alone does not establish its units. Do not infer twelve percent of maximum health; check the current variant.
Should I always choose Legendary?
Compare current weapon tags, triggers and Gear Level as well as rarity. A highest-damage comparison across all items is unverified.
Is this a verified best build or complete guide?
Controlled comparisons across every MOD, Hazard and equipment variant, and runtime clears, have not been performed. Names and requirements are source-checked; recommendations are editorial decisions with reasons.
