| Vocation | Role / Requirements | Party-Building Checks |
|---|---|---|
| Hero | Protagonist only; cannot change vocations | Handles both attacking and healing. Also decide who will use the Sphere of Light against Zoma. |
| Warrior | Front line / Physical abilities | Make use of equipment and durability. Give them a physical damage role while protecting their HP. |
| Martial Artist | Agility / Critical hits | A physical attacker who makes use of critical hits. The critical rate was adjusted in the 2025-05 update. |
| Priest | Healing / Revival | Handles party healing and status cures. Can also equip the Duplic Hat after the update. |
| Mage | Offensive spells / Support | Use different elements and strengthen allies. Requires MP and durability management. |
| Merchant | Exploration / Merchant town | Required for developing the town. Plan separately for the character left in town and your main party members. |
| Gadabout | A route to Sage | Can become a Sage from Lv20 without Words of Wisdom. Be aware of unreliable actions while training one. |
| Thief | Exploration / Agility | Helps with treasure hunting. Present since the SFC edition; not introduced in HD-2D. |
| Monster Wrangler | Rescue / Abilities | Some abilities are learned according to the number of friendly monsters rescued. Rescue differs from capturing enemies in normal battles. |
| Sage | Offensive and healing spells | An advanced vocation obtained at Alltrades Abbey. There are 3 routes: Words of Wisdom, changing from Gadabout, or the post-game More Guns 'n' Buns book. |

Before Changing Vocations at Alltrades Abbey
- Raise the companion changing vocations to at least Lv20. They return to Lv1 afterward, so prepare a training location first if changing several people at once.
- Learned spells and abilities carry over. Decide the purpose of inheritance before training, such as changing a healer to a front-line vocation.
- The usual route to Sage uses Words of Wisdom. Gadabouts at Lv20 or above do not need it. Obtaining More Guns 'n' Buns in the post-game also allows the change without consuming Words of Wisdom.
- Check which items the new vocation can equip and reserve money to buy replacements.
Monster Wrangler Abilities Learned Through Rescues
This is not a system for defeating and capturing ordinary enemies. Find friendly monsters in towns and the field, then meet their conditions to rescue them.
