About this page

Version covered: Japanese Game Boy release. This guide covers the period around arena Class F through arranged breeding after clearing Class E.

Before your first breeding, decide who will fight after the parents leave, as well as which monster you want to produce. This guide introduces the basic preparations and an early example that turns Dracky into Kimera.

1. Recruit monsters to train before clearing Class F

Breeding becomes available after you clear arena Class F. Until then, progress while recruiting companions through travel gates. If you want to use this arranged breeding example, recruit Dracky at the Gate of Departure and keep training it instead of letting it go.

While training Dracky, keep companions who can attack during exploration and others who can restore HP. Even when prospective parents are ready, you do not need to replace all your main fighters just before the next arena class.

2. Check these points before breeding your own monsters together

For ordinary breeding, pair a male and a female and check that both are at least level 10. Level 10 is the requirement for beginning breeding; reaching it does not mean you should breed immediately.

Selection order also matters. The first parent is the pedigree and the second is the mate; reversing them changes the offspring's species in some combinations. Read the on-screen explanation and check that the pairing is the one you intend before confirming.

  • Can you afford to give up the companions chosen as parents?
  • Can you continue exploring after the parents leave?
  • Have you kept enough money to hatch the egg?
  • Do you have room to train the offspring from the start?

Do not plan on getting the parents back after breeding. The offspring starts training at level 1, so a cautious approach is to try it out in areas you have already cleared first.

3. An example after Class E: from Dracky to Kimera

After clearing arena Class E, check Mikki's arranged breeding offer in the queen's room. While Mikki is offering Lizardman, providing your own Dracky at level 10 or higher produces Kimera.

Follow these steps.

  1. Train Dracky to at least level 10
  2. Clear Class E and visit Mikki before advancing through Class D
  3. Check that the offered monster is Lizardman
  4. Offer your Dracky for arranged breeding
  5. Once the offspring joins you, train it alongside the main fighters you kept

The offered partner changes once you clear Class D. If you want this pairing, doing it immediately after clearing Class E is the clearest sequence. For arranged breeding with town masters in the GB version, your monster may be either male or female.

4. What to look for when training Kimera

Hoimi (healing) and Tsumetai Iki (cold breath) are skills to work toward when training Kimera. In this combination, Zaoraru (revival), inherited from Mikki's Lizardman, is another candidate. This does not mean all these skills are available immediately after breeding. Check the actual skill list as you train, and wait until the necessary skills are usable before replacing your healer.

This article gives one breeding example. If you are training different companions, the same order still applies: keep your current attackers and healers before breeding.
