Decide the amount needed for one mining trip

The targets here are a Sawhorse and Sailor Backpack. Copper Ingots needed are 10 for the Sawhorse + 2 for the bag = 12, requiring 48 Copper Ore and 12 Charcoal. Four ore + one charcoal → one copper agrees between an April illustrated guide and 0.10.0 data updated July 29. Do not reuse the “six ore per copper” conversion in the ship article here.

Craft a Stone Pickaxe at the Workbench (Wood 3, Stone 3). Select a pickaxe-marked Copper Deposit on the Coastal Jungle map, approach the rock-wall opening, and enter with E. Break the copper veins inside with the pickaxe and collect them. The same stone pickaxe also mines Clay from rocky surface Clay deposits. Bring back Clay 35 and Stone 30 for facilities.

First obtaining Copper Ore advances discovery of smelting facilities. Use B building to place a Charcoal Kiln and Smelting Furnace outdoors within Bonfire range. The July 29 database lists Wood 25 + Clay 20 for the kiln, Clay 15 + Stone 30 for the furnace. Turn Wood into Charcoal in the kiln, then run 12 furnace batches using 48 Copper Ore and 12 Charcoal. Do not roof these facilities.

The April Method article lists 20 Wood for the kiln, while the later database lists 25. The change date is unidentified, so 25 is the amount to bring for the July data. Adding Wood for 12 Charcoal gives 37 Wood for kiln and fuel, enough for either reference. This is a preparation allowance, not a claim about October's minimum consumption.

Bag materials through equipping

Defeat Boars/Sows for five Rough Hide. At the Workbench, craft a Torn Sailcloth Bag from Coarse Fabric 2 + Rope 1. Place a Sawhorse (Copper Ingot 10 + Wood 20) close enough to upgrade the intended Workbench and within Bonfire range. Check that the Workbench displays level 2 after construction. If not, move the Sawhorse right beside that bench and correct any placement outside Bonfire range.

At the level 2 Workbench, craft a Sailor Backpack from Torn Sailcloth Bag 1 + Rough Hide 5 + Copper Ingot 2. Press Take all for the finished item, then drag it into the backpack slot under Tab → Inventory → Accessories. Completion means one extra inventory row: merely possessing the item does not count as equipping the expansion.
