1. Progress while expanding the village's facilities
The basic order is the meadow, mansion, castle, graveyard, fire-breathing mountain, lost forest, and Toro Ruins. Clearing the mansion unlocks the bank, and clearing the castle unlocks the warehouse. When a new location opens, make deposits in the village before rushing ahead. Setting aside money and spare equipment that you will not use on the next attempt makes it easier to recover from a failure.
2. Practice using items in the mansion, castle, and graveyard
You cannot bring items into the mansion, castle, or graveyard. Practicing with what you find there matters more than preparing strong equipment outside. In the mansion, weaken enemies with arrows before they approach; in the castle, try wand effects; in the graveyard, learn different herb uses. You can throw Healing Herbs or Otogiriso herbs at zombies too. Keep attack supplies separate from the healing you need, though: using all your recovery items this way is dangerous.
3. Choose your loadout even when carry-in becomes available
The fire-breathing mountain and lost forest allow few carry-in items, while Toro Ruins allows more. Check the entrance restrictions and prioritize your main weapon and shield. Preparing without relying on equipment drops is useful in the lost forest. If trading normal attacks with your current equipment would cost too much HP, use items to keep your distance or avoid the fight itself. In particular, do not approach a Berserker as casually as other enemies.
4. Check each pot's name and function before using it
A Preservation Pot lets you put items in and take them out, and use items from inside. A Healing Pot restores HP, which is separate from curing status ailments. A Warehouse Pot requires space in the village warehouse. Pots have different roles; do not assume every pot is a container. Avoid testing an unidentified pot with an important weapon first. Using something you can afford to lose is safer.
5. Prepare an escape option before trying unidentified equipment
Equipping unidentified swords or shields reveals them, but they may be cursed. If your current equipment is sufficient, you do not need to experiment in a dangerous area. First prepare a response if you cannot remove the item, such as a place with an equipment-removal trap. Name wands whose type you know to avoid confusing them in an emergency. Organize your inventory before enemies close in.
6. Returning with your finds is part of the first Mystery Dungeon attempt
Clearing Toro Ruins opens the Mystery Dungeon. Treat the story objective on 27F as a stopping point instead of immediately aiming for deeper exploration. If you find valuable equipment or run low on healing, returning can strengthen your next attempt. Wands do not work on the Evil Box, so do not rely on the same response as for strong enemies along the way. A Sanctuary Scroll is one possible method, but do not plan on inevitably finding one; consider it an option if you have obtained it.
A quick check before departing
In order, check that your loadout fits the carry-in limit, that you have actually equipped your weapon and shield, that you have enough healing and food, and that you have an item to return with. Resolving danger early is more useful for the next attempt than falling with items unused. A Redo Scroll recreates the current floor; it does not rewind time. Do not expect it to restore lost items or spent HP.
