SUPERHOT Beginner's Guide — Stop and Think
This guide focuses on facts stated on the official Steam store and general principles for this type of game. Last updated: August 14, 2026
The first thing to remember
Stop moving. Time advances only when you move. The more you rush around, the more bullets come your way. First, stop completely, check bullet trajectories and enemy positions, decide on an order, and act one move at a time. That is the core of the game. It looks like an FPS, but plays like a puzzle.
Time stops when you stop moving. You can spend as long as you need observing and planning.
There is no health regeneration or ammunition replenishment. Your plan needs to avoid incoming hits.
You can take weapons from enemies and throw them. You have more options than first appearances suggest.
Encounters are short, and you can retry immediately after a failure. It is easy to fit in repeated attempts.
The challenge is arranging your actions in the right order, rather than reacting quickly.
- First, stop completely — Nothing happens while you remain still. Check every bullet and enemy position.
- Address the most dangerous bullets first — Prioritize a route that avoids bullets heading toward you.
- Decide whom to defeat first — You do not need to defeat everyone. Deal with enemies in order of threat.
- Plan a route to a weapon — If you are unarmed, first consider how to approach an enemy whose weapon you can take.
- Decide before you move — Time advances once you start moving. Moving while undecided is the greatest danger.
Panicking and moving constantly
Moving advances time and brings bullets closer. Being willing to stop determines your chances of survival.
Expecting to heal
As the official description states, there is no healing. A strategy that assumes you can take hits will not work.
Relying only on shooting
Ammunition is limited. Remember that you can throw weapons, take them from enemies, and dodge.
Trying to defeat everyone
In some situations, dealing with the immediate threats is enough. Set your priorities.
Q. Is this different from the VR version?
This page covers the standard PC version. A separate VR game exists, but this page is about the original version.
Q. I cannot dodge the bullets
You are probably moving too much. Move a little, stop to check the bullets' positions, then move again. Breaking your movement into small steps makes dodging easier.
Q. How long does it take to finish?
Individual encounters are short, and the game as a whole is compact. There are also challenges to tackle after finishing it.
Q. Can I play in Japanese?
Japanese is supported (according to the official Steam store listing as of August 2026).
