Separate missing scenes from unresolved deductions

Your next action depends on whether a memory remains undiscovered or an observed person remains unidentified. Before chasing more confirmations, check the book and places where the watch reacts.

Record faces, observations, and uncertainties separately

This is a deduction adventure that compares surviving memories with a book, rather than advancing through combat. You need not identify everyone from one scene.

  1. Enter with the watch and distinguish speakers from observations of gaze, possessions, and positions.
  2. Focus on faces to match them to sketches and follow the same people in the book.
  3. Provisionally enter supported causes or role candidates. If a name is uncertain, leave it unresolved and explore more memories.
  4. For review, narrow the person's appearances and compare possessions and companions across earlier and later scenes.

If controls stop you before the story does, start with the beginner guide. Readers choose whether to open specific answers.

Supported version and verification scope

This covers the Steam PC full game, which officially supports Japanese UI and subtitles. Do not apply console buttons or development-demo manifests directly.

  1. Select the anchor on the title screen and check the version at the upper right of settings.
  2. If inputs differ, prioritize your environment's control display.
  3. If an illustration or detail differs, compare other scenes, the manifest, and possessions rather than relying on one visual trait.

Source-check date: October 4, 2026. The official history labels 1.2.122 as default, but this is not a record of launching that day's live build. Source cross-checks and untested points are distinguished.

How to read before opening an answer

The exploration article explains where to enter memories; the character article explains identities and fates. Finding an entrance does not require opening identity answers.

  1. For controls, check the beginner article's keys and target states.
  2. For missing scenes, open the exploration segment nearest your location.
  3. To keep deducing, open only the character's evidence and make your own book entry.
  4. Open that number's fate entry only when you want the answer.

Answer headings, steps, tables, and notes all start closed. Chapter names that might provide clues also remain inside closed sections.

FAQ

Return of the Obra Dinn FAQ

Q1 Is identifying every name enough? ▼
A

You must also enter what happened to each person. Depending on the fate, killer or location fields appear; check every field.

Q2 Must I solve everyone before more scenes appear? ▼
A

First check unfinished exploration. Memory discovery and fate confirmation are separate progress tracks. The exploration guide checks corpse entrances and opened passages in order.

Q3 Will a guide show everyone's answers at once? ▼
A

Evidence and answers are individually closed by manifest number. Open only the number you need.

Q4 Was the current PC version tested in-game? ▼
A

The draft cross-checked official information and multiple guides on October 4, 2026. The live build and individual inputs were not tested in-game, and no such verification is claimed.
