PARASITE EVE II (PS1)

PARASITE EVE II Dryfield at Night: Defeat Burner and Keep Flint Alive

After exploring at night, keep attacking so Burner does not escape. If you want Flint to survive, check the outcome after the battle before moving on.

Scope: Original Japanese PlayStation version (1999), first playthrough on Normal. Excludes equipment exclusive to repeat playthroughs and strategies that assume higher difficulty modes. / Content checked: 2026-10-14

Covers the night in Dryfield through departure on a first Normal playthrough. This guide compares reference material and has not been verified through hands-on play. Burner's HP and damage threshold are omitted because sources disagree. The first 3 minutes determine whether the battle continues; they are not a deadline for defeating it. It does not cover every branch or 100% extermination.

Content discussed below: Discusses a late-Dryfield enemy and Flint's survival or death depending on the battle's outcome.

6 entries shown

1. From the Lobby Key to the master key

Open the register and safe codes and input instructions
  1. After checking the car with Kyle, meet Douglas in the trailer and obtain the Lobby Key. At the lobby register, enter #3033 and press TOTAL to retrieve the Bronco Masterkey. If you have entered only the digits and nothing happens, make sure you complete the final input.
  2. Go to the motel loft and collect the Jerry Can. The safe in the same location opens with 4487 and contains Holy Water. The Jerry Can is what you need to carry gasoline, so check your inventory after exploring.

2. Deliver the gasoline and prepare before returning to the bedroom

  1. Collect gasoline where the car was and deliver it to Douglas in the garage. Then continue the conversation with Kyle at G&R and head to the bedroom. Attempting to rest leads to the Burner battle, so prepare ammunition and healing options and keep a save you can return to.
  2. For ammunition and healing items used during combat, check their placement in attachments as well as whether you are carrying them. Before buying more equipment, make sure you can keep firing your existing weapon.

3. Do more than run away during the first 3 minutes

  1. Burner escapes if you do not deal enough damage within the first 3 minutes. If it escapes, Flint dies and the rewards differ from those for defeating it. To keep Flint alive, create openings to attack, keep the battle going, and ultimately defeat Burner.
  2. One effective approach is to poison it with Necrosis while combining gunfire and damage over time. The poison wears off, so reapply it when the effect ends. Spending too long running because you fear attacking wastes time; establish a rhythm of dodging, then firing.
  3. There are successful examples using the M93R; the battle is not impossible without an M4A1. If you have too few attack openings, first review your spacing and reloading. Energy Shot is another option for a gun-focused approach.

4. Avoid getting too close, and finish it after the change

  1. Watch for arm and grab attacks at close range, and flamethrower attacks even at a distance. Being grabbed offers a chance to counterattack but also hurts you, so there is no need to aim for that on your first attempt. When the sequence showing its damaged face begins, keep attacking through to victory.
  2. The story continues even if it escapes, but if survival is your goal, reload a pre-battle save. After winning, check that Flint is safe and continue talking with Douglas. Do not leave with only the Truck Key: speak to him again, collect the M950 in the trailer, then return to Kyle.

Check later branches separately

  1. This guide's goal ends with Flint's survival and obtaining the M950. Rescuing Pierce after entering the shelter and late-game events involve separate decisions. Do not treat this battle as completion of every branch; keep separate saves during the next exploration too.
