Covers the 2008 DS release

This guide covers the Japanese-language DS game released August 7, 2008. It treats it separately from Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light on Famicom and Book 1 of Mystery of the Emblem on SFC. The current walkthrough runs from the final prologue map through Chapter 1 on Normal. Do not judge chapter counts or recruitment conditions solely from memories of the older versions.

Check the Normal-only prologue

The difficulties are Normal and five levels of Hard. The four prologue maps are available only on Normal. Reinforcement timing also changes on Hard, so do not apply the Normal article's waiting strategy unchanged.

Recruitment and departures have conditions

The final prologue map includes a decoy choice, and the selected ally cannot return later. Norne also has a roster-size requirement. The walkthrough explains this choice first, then takes you through recruiting Wrys in Chapter 1 without adding further losses. It does not guarantee both recruiting everyone and keeping everyone alive.

Remember Marth's visits and seizures

Marth is the one who can visit villages. In Chapter 1, collect funds from the eastern village and recruit Wrys in the western village, then seize. Leave Marth a path to the objective as well as planning who fights, to make progression easier.
